I would love opinions on decks out there that would make a person laugh or smile when they see them, even the ominous or warning type cards.... I'm looking for a deck that was specifically designed (the creator had the purpose in mind) to make anyone who sets their eyes on it smile or giggle...Is there such a deck out there? I'd love to hear your suggestions...

The Fey Tarot with book from Lo Scarabeo. It's thoughtful, not too sad.
The Universal Tarot by Roberto DeAngelis. The Page of Cups in the overdressed and stagy costume was rather delicious--I cannot find any pictures online though.
I have heard people enjoy the Whimsical Tarot from U.S. Games because it has nursery rhyme characters. For a short time I had the Halloween Tarot with book from U.S. Games and it was fine and funny in a cute way---but I had other decks that I rather use, being the Fey and Universal.
Best wishes,
Mari H.

I would also say the Halloween Tarot. I don't have it yet but everytime I see the pics on the web there's screaming in my head: "You want that! You need that and you know it! Stop resisting, it won't do any good anyway" ;) I promised myself that I will have it for next October. The pics make me smile everytime I see them.

A bit of "medieval" humour too? I like the various rather manic looking ladies wrestling lions in Strength cards from soprafino decks. Also Minchaite lovers cards, where the young lady kindly(!) provides a crown as a "foresight" to ensure cupid's arrow reaches it's mark - The top of her kneeling partner's head? })
I like the Old English Tarot - I've always liked "ancient little folk" going around doin' amusing stuff? :D
Uhm, the Leonardo? the Breugel? I don't have either yet... Even the Bosh Tarot (sic!) can be quite whimsical at times...
Macavity
P.S. Ah, the "Gatti" decks too, I guess ;)

I would second the nominations for both the Ferret Tarot and the Ator Tarot. Both made me smile when I saw them. :) They have the added benefit that you can actually buy copies.
I would also want to mention BoomVoom's Tarot which may be found on December in the Tarot Lovers' Calendar 2004. I smiled when I saw that - very appealling illustrations.
There will also be a thread on the Tarot Deck Creation Board on BoomVoom's Tarot - I'll see if I can find a link.

Another vote for the Fey!
Or how about the Tarot of a Moongarden? It doesn't make me giggle, but it is definitely a "smiley" deck.

Would definitely second the Gnomes, Rota, and Hallowen suggestions. A few of the cards in the Fantasy Showcase tarot crack me up as well. Having a frog astronaut sipping soda on the 9 of cups and a Duck as the king of wands were great.

I think the Phantasmagoric Theatre tarot is humorous. But not sure.. I've only seen a few cards. Worth checking out. And most of the cards of the Hanson Roberts are whimsical and bring a smile. :)

The Fantastic Tarot, see www.spiritone.com/~filipas/Masquerade/Reviews/fantastc.html for review, is humorous to me. The Magician has a W.C Fields' nose and goat legs; the Knight of Wands rides a horse with seven legs, the Knight of Swords a huge Dodo-ish bird; the Five of Wands is pretty typical except for a smiling imp at the bottom who looks like he's thinking "my work here is done"; in the Seven of Cups, a man appears to be playing a dice game with the Grim Reaper. Even the more normal cards are done in such a lively style that they make me smile. It does, however, have the saddest Three of Swords card I've seen- some soldiers are walking off leaving a woman crying over a small goat that they have impaled with three swords. Not a deck for children, but it's got a lot of verve.

A resounding second to the nominations of the Ferret and Halloween Tarots. I got my Ferret yesterday (yay!), and I already adore it. I did a reading for myself with it today and laughed at the 5 of Cups -- how many times do you get to do that? Another great thing about the Ferret Tarot is that it comes in a bag designed by the creator, which she stores in the same cupboard which holds her store of catnip. Thus, the Ferret Tarot is always a big hit with cats. :D
I've also found the Children's Tarot to be tremendously charming, and always get a smile from it. Unfortunately, I can't really read with it, unlike the situation with the Ferret or the Halloween. The Children's always gets laughs and "oh, look at this!" when I share it with others, so I'd say it's a great collector's deck.

Thanks guys! That warms the cockles of my heart! LOL My little deck making people smile & laugh out loud!
Hey, my next 'project' is a 22 majors cat deck based on the Conver Marseilles from 1763...the person who wanted to do it backed out & it seemed fairly simple...22 pencil roughs later & I'm looking at starting to ink the suckers in. It's got a nice gentle feel to it and maybe 'fun' but I think the Ferret Tarot is funnier. I'll start posting pics once I get them colored in.

I vote for the Ator. A great humorous deck that you can still read with.

Your cat tarot deck will be a major arcana only? :(

Well, the majors were the only really involved cards, as the pips aren't illustrated. (And on the practical side, doing 22 color cards is a fraction of the costs of doing a 78 card deck). But I did do a cover card based on the box cover I found online--the starburst one.
Never fear, I've got a full 78 card deck in the thinking stage that's cat related, but rather cartoony instead of realistic. Like the Ferret Tarot but more involved with the images. So far only 3 cards have been sketched repeatedly. Still not happy with the full images, they need to be tweeked. This one is going to take some thinking & therefore more time--probably end of the year if I'm lucky. The Marseilles was done for 'fun' to get my mind off the other things needing to be sewn or drawn right now. The reason it was so quick to do was that it's a visual copy (not traced) done off images already designed, but I turned the people into cats, so heads, feet & tails are added.

The Lo Scarabeo Fairy Tarot by Lupatelli has a book coming out in English...Feebee just alerted us on the new Lo Scarabeo Catalogue site under "Sets" and it is the seventh one down.
It makes me laugh as well, but the lack of the book and the difference in majors and minors might be of concern to some. The minors are lovely and old fashioned, like some old children's book.
The Fairy Tarot also comes in a mini version.
