I am sure this has been talked about here before, and will do so again....

The Standard?

Printed in 1977?

Other?

All commets greatly appreciated :)

Years and years ago I wanted this deck, and now again it calls me...

Get the one in the purple box!
I'm picking this one up next week when I get to the city.
lol (just kidding) that's all I know about these Thoth Cards,I'm going to try them this year also.

If you intend to principally use it for study purposes, I would suggest the larger version, as some of the details get a little lost on some cards on the 'standard' deck. For readings, the smaller size is easier to handle.

Unless things have changed, it is also the smaller deck which includes three versions of the I the Magician... and the larger version the unicursal hexagramme (which you could drawn yourself in any case).

I have also been led to believe that the earlier greenish tinged print has been rectified, so this should not be a problem any longer - someone please correct me if I am mistaken.

Being someone who principally uses the RWCS deck, be prepared for some changes!... who knows, it may even lead you to the Marseille ;)

Yes, I DO intend to use it for study. You have picked up very well there, jmd, it WILL be a change andf it seems that since I have become a member here it has allowed me do this :)
Change, I mean. Do I? Perhaps I mean study??

Oh yes, the Marseille won't be far away either ;)

I have happily (after much thought and time) reached the conclusion that I will always read professionally with RWS, but need to study with new decks.

When I got to work on Friday I found another readers card under the table
What was it?
A Crowley Thoth card, The Star in fact, which you will note is my next card of study. I had been chatting with Moonbow* about getting the deck and WALLAH, it appears.
I am very big into synchronicity and if that ain't a sign, I don't know what is :D

Hi TA,

I just checked both of my Thoth decks (regular and larger size) and the only dates on them are copyrights 1978 and 1983. I had no idea there was any other version. This is my power deck - I find the larger one is great for meditatin purposes. When this deck wants to be worked, it always has a way of letting me know.

Have there been any changes since the 1977 - if so, what were they? I find it a little disturbing that I may not have the deck as it was originally intended to be depicted.

Thea, apparently the deck isn't very good, the imagery and colors are a bit lost as compared to others.

In your opinion should I get the large or standard?

Who published your decks? The Swiss decks by AGMuller have the best color. The older US Games decks have a greenish hue to them.

I too would love to get the larger Thoth, I have the mini-version and the lavender box standard with 3 Magus, these decks are very nicely coloured, I also have the very large sickly green version in the white box which I can't use.

So its always put me off from getting another large size one in case it comes green tinged again. But I do think that the large deck is better to study with. :)

hi Emily,
I have the large Swiss Thoth by AGMuller and the color is wonderful. It's in the Navy Blue box.

Hi Lark,

could you post the ISBN number. Amazon UK seem to sell quite a few versions of the Thoth and I don't think I've noticed one in a blue box.

Sure thing...the IBSN: is 0-88079-469-0

There is a book set that has the large Swiss Thoth in it. It comes with the book Mirror of Your Relationships by Gerd Ziegler.
IBSN: 0-88079-471-2
Just incase you can't find the deck alone. You have another option.

The pocket Swiss Thoth by AGMueller is ISBN: 1-57281-294-X
It's 2 1/4 x 3 1/2 inches.

Hi Lark,

Thanks for posting those - I've just looked at my decks - the Lavender box one and the smaller pocket size and they are both US Games - Are the AGMueller decks very different in colour ? - I always thought my two were nicely coloured but not as vibrant as some online scans I've seen and now I'm wondering if the AG Mueller versions are brighter coloured.

I'm not up to getting the large green tinged one out of its box, not with the day I've had lol, but I think that is US Games too.

lark  12 Jan 2004
You know Emily I've only ever bought the AGMueller cards. So I've never been able to compare.
I stayed away from the USGames decks because when I was researching the deck I kept coming across interviews that said the colors were so disappointing compared to the Mueller printing.
So I just bought AGMuller.

I have heard that USGames is supposed to have fixed the colors on there new printings of the deck, but I don't know if that's true.

Do any Thoth people out there have a AGMuller and USGames to compare and tell us what you think?
