Deck Troubles

Would be greatly apperciated if someone could advice on three questions I have...

1. Is there this deck called Voyage? or did I confuse it with the Voyager deck?

2. I'm trying to identify this deck which someone else was using. I can't recall any of the images save for one, but I don't even know its name. Argh. Anyway, all I remember is that there's this card with a person being all tied up, which the reader interpretated it as "self restriction". I know this is very little to work with but *crossing my fingers* it COULD be a sword card because surround the tied up person seems to be like a fence made up of swords, but I can't be sure...

3. I'm pending a purchase of a second hand deck but the seller has told me that it's NOT a 78 card tarot, but a 80 card one. *confused* someone enlighten me on this? I have 80 cards from my Gothic Tarot but two were clearly not part of the deck - one was stating its name and the other an advertisment. I told the seller that but he insisted it's a 80 card deck?

Well, thanks in advance!

At least one deck does have 80 cards - there's three versions of the Lovers card. Can't help with the others.

Hello Vynara,

The deck I can't help on:(.
It sounds as if the card is the 8 of swords:).
That is the image on the RWS and many of it's clones.
Do you remember the gender of the person or perhaps the color scheme?

Ouch...Thought

If you include the blank card the Quest has 80 cards.

I would agree that the card would be the 8 of swords.....
---if you are describing this card from the same deck that you where wondering is the voyage/voyager deck- I can tell you {the card} it's not from the Voyager deck- this deck is a photo collage deck.
As for an 80 card deck- the Shapeshifter deck has 24 majors instead of 22, so that would make an 80 card deck.....80 working cards....many of my 78 card decks have an extra card or two...
It could be a 78 'working' card deck and the person is just counting the extras....

Vynara  06 Jan 2004
thanks everyone!

no, the card I'm describing isn't from the Voyage deck.... hmmmm. Male or female? I can't remember... the color... I would say... Oh I don't know. Dratsss. Never mind thanks anyway, I'll just shuffle through the complete list and try my luck. It's one of those cases where I know if I see some of the cards again, I'll know it's the deck I'm looking for ;D

so erm... Voyage deck - exist?

As for the 80-card question.. apparently the person says that the two extra cards is part of the deck... how different is it from a 78-card deck? Would using a 80-card deck be more difficult, or require some extra special knowledge of some sorts?

sooooooooo sorry for being a pain =X

lunalafey  06 Jan 2004
If it's the Shapeshifter deck- you should not have much trouble learning two extra cards- If it is the Shapeshifter deck, it follows traditional meanings to a degree, but it speks in a little different style {not meaning- hard to explain} I have done a comparitive reding with the Shapeshifter, and it did not express something totally different than the origional throw. Now, those extra majors, the 24th card takes the place of the world card.
card with no equivelant; 21- the Double, 22- Jouney { i see this as an extention of the fool} and 23- the dreamer {an extention of the star}.......I know there are a few other decks with 80 cards, but none are in my tiny collection, so the shpeshifter is all I can offer:D

The card sounds like the 8 of Swords. Not sure what deck, the Spiral Deck has an 8 of Swords that could match that description, but I am sure many decks do. In the Spiral the card is purple hued and she is bound with a ribbon/scarf to a stake surrounded by a fence of swords (I am picturing it in my head so I think that is right).

The Cosmic Tribe deck is 80 cards. however, only 78 cards that you use, there are 3 versions of the Lovers card and you choose the one for your reading prior to reading (male/female, male/male, female/female).

the card with the woman all tied up is the 10 of swords in the rider waite deck. I loathe getting that card in my readings.

Vynara  07 Jan 2004
miss_apples, THANKS! THANKS THANKS! It is that very card. ;P

and also thanks to everyone else with their advice! I got a better idea of what an 80-card deck is. *hugs all around*

HudsonGray  07 Jan 2004
Miss Apples, the 10 of swords in my Rider Waite (standard) has a man on the ground dead with 10 swords in his back. Are you sure? I know there's a lot of versions out on the Rider decks, but I don't think I've seen the 10 with a woman on it before.

Vynara  07 Jan 2004
erm... to clear things up, the card I was trying to identify is 8 swords, RW deck.

Thanks to LadyMedusa, who actually told me from the beginning but I didn't pay sufficient attention *blush*

thanks again everyone for helping me! that card was seriously bugging me. now I can sleep, lol. :D
