this one is on the wishlist. even though the art is not overwhelming me in any way, it does seem to carry the meaning of the cards.
and i am a fan of dion fortunes writing.

Actually, I like the pictures, but I regret the huge borders and key phrases. I wish they had left them off the cards. But, I do like it and may consider it in the future, when I have more money ;)
The cards they did show do convey meanings very well. I would love to see more of the cards. BTW, very interesting web site as well.
Thanks Holmes!

I am skeptical that these cards have anything to do with Dion Fortune. I didn't think she ever wrote about her take on individual cards. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong! It looks to me like a standard GD-themed deck which uses her name for marketability.

Lee: I have not read The Mystical Qabalah by Fortune yet, but I am assuming because of its title, she would have commented on the paths in the Tree of Life in the book. I can easily see how the publishers could take these insights and put them into a Tarot deck, even if she herself never commented on the actual cards.
Also, Fortune wrote alot of books. Her occult insights, to me, are astounding. It is easy to see, I think, how these insights and themes can be put into Tarot.
But, I haven't seen the deck, so I don't know if it will live up to these expectations.
It either has the potential to be brilliant, or shoddy. By the look of the haphazard collage artwork, I feel it, sadly, may be veering towards the latter, but I have not yet seen the whole deck...

Greetings
This looks like a very nice & serious deck indeed - samples are at http://www.innerlight.org.uk/
What a terrible pity they have seen fit to imprison these pip cards with those restrictive captions. These would be hard to ignore and, IMHO, must greatly reduce the utility of these otherwise interesting-looking cards, and from one of those interesting historical figures of the occult too.
Oh well. It's not as if there aren't enough cards to choose from (sigh).

Her writings are excellent, but the cards...
for me they don't cut it. There's a lack of artistic consistancy... Perhaps contemplating one card at a time would work; I'm not sure If Dion Fortune had actually designed them, perhaps. Although the back is great.
Lee: If these are based strictly on Dion Fortune's 'Mystical Qabalah', you're right. She goes much in depth on each sephirah, a chapter on the paths. Cards are mentioned in passing, very briefly. For example, under a table of corrospondences for Kether is:
Tarot Cards: the four Aces
Ace of Wands: Root of the Powers of Fire
Ace of Cups: Root of the Powers of Water
Ace of Swords: Root of the Powers of Air
Ace of Pentacles: Root of the Powers of Earth
That's about all that's said about the Aces. Not much to go on...
The edition I have has material not in the original edition. There you'll find a bit more. But I don't think much of her take. She's quoted as believing the paths deserving a book of thier own, but she never completed one.
Mimers: If you get the deck, I'll chop the borders off for you })

A friend whose a tarot fanatic said it was the
Monty Python Tarot. She did go through all the cards.
She thought they looked like funny cut-outs made to jump across a screen and do silly things, like the old television shows.
Regards,
Cerulean
P.S. I won it for free and gave it away, fast, at a show.

I still haven't bought the deck but the more I look at it the more I want it. So if you ever win one for free again, Cerulean, send it my way;-)

I REALLY wanted to like these...as I am such a fan of Dion Fortune's, and of course...a fan of tarot.
A friend of mine showed them to me...and I have to say I was very disappointed in them.
The images do seem somewhat disjointed...and it's as if there is no connected theme...even though it is clear that it does have a theme...the whole concept just feels really muddy to me.
I would have bought them sight unseen...
So glad I saw them first.
Maybe I would consider them if I got them in trade...but I can't see spending money to own them.
Sigh. I really wanted to like them.... :(

I just received word from the North American distributor of the Dion Fortune Tarot that the decks are in, and are on their way to the resellers now. Our shipment is anticipated to arrive on Monday, although I suppose that there may be another day or so delay now that there's no mail service this Friday (since it's been declared a national day of mourning in the U.S., to honor former U.S. Pres. Ronald Reagan).
Anyway, I didn't order a huge batch, but only a couple of the incoming ones are spoken for. If anyone 'round here wants me to reserve a copy for them, you can PM me. Quite frankly, I can't remember what the price is on the things -- it seems like I've had them on backorder for forever -- but I suppose it will be somewhere in the $20 - $30 range.
