Just got the most BEAUTY-FULL deck! I happened across the Faerie Wicca deck in a theater gift shop of all places. I had never seen it before. I'm not Wiccan nor anything resembling it, but I could not resist.
The only downside is that there are lots and lots and LOTS of references to Irish Mythology that I don't understand.
However, I find that it's arrived at a good time for me. There's something very comforting about it, especially the very vaguely senic pip cards. I just lost my job and I need all the comfort I can get. :'(
Anyone else know this one? And can ANYONE tell me what's going on in the Poetical Justice card?

First of all, sorry about your job situation! I have been out of work for nearly two months myself.
Here are a couple of reviews of this deck from Tarot Passages:

I'm not sure they will answer your questions, but maybe they will give you a little more information.
For myself, this was one of those decks where I liked the artwork but had a problem with the many departures from traditional Tarot structure. Unfortunately that seems to be the case with many Celtic-Pagan decks that I would ordinarily gravitate toward. The Sacred Circle Tarot and Tarot of the Old Path are other examples. But if it works for you, enjoy it!

As a Libra I usually relate well to the Justice card, but this one completely eludes me. I find myself wondering exactly what the designer meant by it.
If you gain some insight into this card, I would appreciate your sharing.

I have this deck with the mini book. Based on the description from the book, my take of "Poetical Justice" falls to a feeling of karmic justice, rather than a more individual type justice. That is more of a universally controlled balance rather than an individual or worldly controlled balance. To put it another way more like "the big picture" instead of episodic.
I hope that makes sense.

I just acquired this deck, mainly because I felt drawn to the beautiful artwork. But when I opened the package and started looking through the cards and the (included) mini-book, I was thinking maybe I made a mistake??? There are so many references to Irish/Celtic tradition and folklore, names of Gods and Goddesses that I've never heard of (and can't pronounce). It just seems like I am going to have to put A LOT of effort into getting familiar with this deck, which I really don't have time to do right now.
Anyone else feel this way about the Faery Wicca?
On a more positive note...I do still love the cards, and it is possible to recognize the suits (with different names) by looking at the pictures. And I also feel that this deck will be worth spending the time on...sometime in the near future.

I received this deck as a Christmas present and have been slowly getting to know it.
I did find the mythology behind this deck a bit overwhelming at first since the mini book is not the simplest to read. I found myself reading the same part over a few times before the story made any sense.
I am still re-reading the mini-book and am finding that the more that I read it the better I understand and like the system this deck follows. I find that my imagination loves this deck more than any other. I have been picking a card to meditate on each night before I go to sleep.
So all of that said, this is definitely a deck that requires a bit of work to understand and fully appreciate I would say. You could just work by your own intuition and interpretations of the beautiful cards ( usually I am a big supporter of doing this), but in this case I think a lot of depth is added by learning the background and the way that the cards relate to each other.
Definitely worth spending the time on it Luna, when you actually have the time:)
I love this deck,
Ruby7
p.s. has anyone else noticed the green on the back of the cards coming off and smudging the front of the cards??

Thanks, Ruby7!
I am glad to hear such a positive response...I will definitely make this deck a priority, and I am sure it will be worth the effort. Meanwhile, maybe I will follow your example and start by just meditating on one card at a time...so I can at least appreciate the artwork if not the concept behind it.

The Old One (XV) and the Round Tower (XVI) describe the nature of the deck very well.
As for poetical justice, the only thing that comes to my mind is the tired and old story where a young woman who was pregenant was no longer welcome in the community and had to run away, ther are stories where the women killed themselves. Of the symbolism in the background, the only thing i recognize is the three fates holding the scales of balance, or are they the weird sisters? hard to tell given the nature of this deck.
The faery magic spells (in italics) are neat and provide a new insight into the general meanings of the cards, i use them for readings with other decks at times.

I don't have this deck, the few scans I've seen have grammar mistakes and funny juxtapositions of Irish and English that would drive me nuts, I'm afraid. But the artwork does look nice FourleafClover, and I'm glad you and others are enjoying the deck.
I can't find a scan of the Poetical Justice card, but if you want to describe the scene to me I might be able to take a shot at the meaning - I speak Irish and know a fair bit about the mythology, and I'm rather intrigued to know what's so puzzling about the card :)
blessings,
Kate

The criticism I've heard about this deck is its numerous inaccurcies especially pertaining to th language. This only really becomes a problem when people using the deck think that they are eperts on anient celtic mythology because they're used teh deck and infuriate people who actualy ARE experts in this area. If however you lok at the deck, as I have, as being neo-pagan with lots of great, fun neo-pagan ideas about mythology and spirituality you should be fine. If you read reviews of Kisma Stepanch's books on the subject on amazon you'll see what I mean.
