Hi rexenne2003,
You can see some of the cards here
http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/arthurian/index.html
I have this deck. It was the first deck I got so its a bit special for me. In fact I probably base most of my meanings to the cards on this deck because I know it so well! Most of the names of the Majors have been changed and the pips are mostly scenic. The book that comes with the deck is pretty informative. It gives loads of background on the myths behind the cards. The card stock is very thick but this makes it very durable. If you are looking for a rider-waite clone, this isn't it. This is very much based on Arthurian myth and could involve a fair bit of study in order to understand the meanings. That said, is was my first deck and although I found it a challenge, it was a very rewarding one.

Hi rexenne, there is no separate Hallowquest deck. The deck you have, the Arthurian, is what the authors refer to as Hallowquest, and that's the same one that Jewel-ry linked to. It's kind of confusing because the authors keep referring to it as Hallowquest, but it's the Arthurian.
The Tarot Magic and Arthurian Mysteries books have been republished as one volume called Hallowquest: the Arthurian Tarot Course. Here's a link to the Amazon listing:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0722534485/qid=1073074597/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/102-2095480-0747357?v=glance&s=books
It appears to be out of print, and they have used copies for $60, but I'll bet you could find it cheaper if you search around on the Internet.

I've seen the Aquarian Press Hallowquest handbook in a gray cover--it is the thinner, out of print and early version of the revised blue book. On abebooks.com, enter "Hallowquest" as the title. The authors should be John and Caitlin Matthews.
1. Starting about 7.00 in Great Britain:
Hallowquest: Tarot Magic and the Arthurian Mysteries, Aquarian Press
2. Starting at about $25.00 in the U.S.--this is the blue, thicker book:
HALLOWQUEST : THE ARTHURIAN TAROT COURSE ( Hallow Quest ): Thorsen, 1997
If you already have the Arthurian Tarot by John and Caitlin Matthews, either of these books above is good enough to take you through the exercises. The blue book seems to have bigger text, a few more appendixes, but when I owned both the earlier and later versions of the Hallowquest Handbook, the text was the same for the lessons.
Best wishes,
Mari H.

I recently traded for a boxed set version of the Hallowquest. I think (but correct me if I'm wrong) that this particular edition is only published in Britain in Canada. It includes cards, book and a blank journal. Does anyone know how the text in this book compares to the book you're talking about? I'd assume it had less content, but it seems to be more than adequate for using the deck.
I like the art on this deck, and I'm looking forward to actually using it. I'm not through the book yet though.

You can check out these reviews.

The set available with a blank journal--I've seen it at one or two new age bookstores in Northern California. I thought I saw a sample set and the cards were exactly the same size as my old Arthurian Tarot deck, same backs, etc.
The book with the deck seems to be the same companion book you get with the old Arthurian Tarot. In a similar comparison, for instance with the Celtic Tarot book-deck-journal kit by Helena Patterson, the text from the old book that accompanied the deck is the same as the new reformatted text that accompanied
The Hallowquest Handbook Tarot Course is a different book with meditative text for a yearlong course, so I am not certain I could compare the meditation year-long course text of the course book with the 'deck companion' book.
Sorry if this sounds vague.

Hopefully my instructions here are clear. I'm sorry that you didn't understand my earlier suggestions.
Please go to www.abebooks.com.
In the search engine provided, on abebooks.com, enter "Hallowquest" as the title. The authors should be John and Caitlin Matthews.
Several listings come up with the Hallowquest tarot course book.
1. Starting about 7.00 in Great Britain:
Hallowquest: Tarot Magic and the Arthurian Mysteries, Aquarian Press.
Now while I once seen a copy of this early Matthews book at an old bookstore, and my guess is this listing is this one below, you'd be taking a chance that it has the Arthurian Tarot Course information. I gave my old one away after examining it and found the descriptions of the Hallows and everything else, plus the dates for the meditation course, to be the same.
www.imagik.net/tarot.htm
I suggest you do not get this one, instead, look for the one below:
2. Starting at about $26.00 in the U.S.--this is the blue, thicker book:
HALLOWQUEST : THE ARTHURIAN TAROT COURSE ( Hallow Quest ): Thorsen, 1997
352 pages ; Dimensions (in inches): 1.50 x 9.25 x 7.00
Publisher: Thorsons Pub; (January 1998)
ASIN: 0722534485
Send an inquiry to the bookseller if you are not sure this is the right book before you send your money. Explain that you'd like to check out the ASIN, publisher or page count to make certain this is the right book that you want.
I hope this assists you to get the book for under $60.00. Best wishes.
