Looks interesting but I can't place it. Any thoughts from the experts?

Oh No!
Another fabulous deck that I have never seen before that I MUST have! :D
I have never seen these in the US stores...but then I don't get out much!
(Sigh) One more for the list...

Scorpion  05 Feb 2004
Thanks for that, Mari!

I think I'll keep my eye on it.....

THANK YOU, Scorpion and Mari, for bringing this beautiful deck to my attention!

I had never seen these cards before, until your post yesterday, and I knew immediately that I HAD to have them! Luckily, I was able to get them used through Amazon.com, as they are OOP and not easy to find...

Good luck with purchasing them on ebay, Scorpion!
If you decide to get them, please let me know...maybe we can compare notes! It looks like it will be a fun deck to work with...

I have Russell Grants Astro Tarot lol

Its completely different to any tarot deck, I always think it looks more like an oracle deck. The artwork is very charming, colourful and a feel good deck. I've had some very good readings from it - One word of warning though, You would never use this deck without the book. Apart from the Majors and the Aces that really is the only link to traditional tarot.

The one I have was the first print of 91 and the cards are very thick and unlaminated, hard to shuffle until you get used to them - not sure if they have changed them now - they are also large.

I got this deck and book set very cheaply but it was a good buy and very worth it. I also have a mini palm sized deck of the 22 Majors that was given away free with an astrology magazine a few years ago.

I've not seen the one on ebay yet but I know that you can still pick up copies of the deck and book very cheaply, I don't think they were all that popular.

Just checked out the ones on ebay, they are well worth the asking prices - I remember paying alot more that that for mine lol

Thanks Emily....I am glad you have enjoyed using the Astro Tarot, and I am VERY excited about getting mine...it should be here sometime next week! I agree with your comments that the book is critical to understanding this particular deck, as it is a "non-traditional" tarot deck...probably closer to an oracle. Either way, I am sure it will be fun to work with...I really love the bright, cotton-candy colors and gentleness of these images...reminds me of a cross between the Whimsical and Moon Garden decks, both of which are on my wish list :D

Hi Lunakasha,

There is also a very nice spread in the book, I think based on the horoscope - can't quite remember my deck and book are upstairs at the moment - might go and find it out in a bit. I always enjoyed using this deck but it got overshadowed by my Rider Waite studies. It also started my interest in chinese horoscopes. I found out I was a snake lol :) and the snake in this deck is very pretty.

Hi Emily!

I am a Monkey...and this year (2004) is the year of the Monkey!!! I haven't studied much about the Chinese horoscope...just found out my sign from those placemats they have at Chinese restaurants...haha! :D

It is nice to talk to someone who has this deck...I did a search and could not find a thread for the Astro...maybe we should start one??? I am sure there are those who don't consider this a "true" tarot deck because it is very different...hmmm. Whatever it is, tarot or oracle, it definitely got my attention! I should google the illustrator and see what else she has done....

Let me know if you find some interesting tidbits in the book, OK?

Hi Scorpion,

there is another review of this deck at www.tarotwisdomreadings.com/TarotDecks/AstroTarot.html
I saw this auction and emailed the seller as to how many cards there are and what condition they are in. The seller replied that there are 63 cards, though the review says there should be 64. Perhaps the seller counted wrong, but perhaps there is a card missing. The seller did say they are in new condition. In any case, I won't be bidding on it but the best of luck to you should you decide to:-)

If I remember rightly all the cards are numbered - back in a bit lol - should have got the deck and book earlier :)

lunakasha  06 Feb 2004
Thanks, Galadrial!

I just got some more card images for my tarot journal....AND I got to see the backs of the cards, which are very nice!!!

Just found mine out - there are 64 cards.

They measure approx 11cm x 6cm, not as large as I thought they were lol but the backs are beautiful, red with small gold stars and small blue moons. I do have the Virgin 1992 edition yellow book and unlaminated cards but maybe the cards are laminated now.

I'd forgotten what a pretty deck it is. I've only just got it out and its already gone warm in my hands lol The Death card in this is very pretty but hard-hitting, a grinning skull with red roses growing out of the eyes.

Russell Grant is a very flamboyant (sp) character and his astro tarot is the same lol

Hey Emily!

These are soooo beautiful, I agree! I just got to see the back design, thanks to someone's post earlier...VERY nice!!! I also like the Death card, and the Fool is pretty too....love the colors in here! In some ways, it reminds me of the Gilded Tarot, except not quite as "shiny" or sleek....know what I mean??? The Dog card reminds me of the movie The Shining.....yikes!!! LOL :)

Glad you have rediscovered these lovely cards...when I get mine I will keep you posted!
