Can anyone find any news on this deck? It popped up when I typed in "Thai Tarot" at Amazon.com. It says the publisher is US Games, and that it has yet to be released. I can't find ANY imformation about this deck anywhere, not even on the US Games website.
I'm Thai myself, so on one hand, it'd be nice seeing a Thai-cultere themed deck in the US, so I'm intrigued.
On the other hand, it was kinda my dream to design a Thai-culture based deck and get it published myself (rather lofty-unattainable dream for a highschool freshman, wouldn't you say?), so it's kinda like...grrr....I don't want you crowding the market....who's gonna publish mine if there's your's in the way.... >:( :(
If anyone knows anything about this, I'd appreciate getting some info.

I've seen it at amazon also, but know nothing about it.
I *love* Thailand....was there for 9 days last September and was so sad to leave. What a beautiful place and beautiful people. I had culture shock upon returning to the US!

I desperately want to see a Thai-themed deck on the market, one that depicts scenes from Thai culture, mythology, and iconography. (Roots of Asia doesn't really do this. It's more of a Buddhist-themed deck with Thai-style art sprinkled in).
I've been meaning to get working on one for so long. I wanna see a Thai deck done in the style of Tarot of Prague and Tarot de Paris....lots of photos from around the country edited together. I bet you can create a whole deck from jsut walking through the Grand Palace alone--the place is just so thick with imagery that can be used for Tarot. I would do it myself, but I have no idea where to start or how to go about working on such a project. I already have a wealth of ideas, but I don't think these dreams will ever get off the ground. :(

Oh, the Grand Palace is sooo magnificent. You could make a suit of that...a suit of Ayuthaya, one of Chiang Mai and the beaches area (which I didn't make it to, but will next time!)
I think the idea of the style of Prague and Paris would be gorgeous. I'll go back with you and help take pictures :)

Yes, I will need someone to help me! ;)
On the Nine of Wands, the image would be of the giant demon statues, guarding the grounds of the Palace. I think the image would be perfect! The snarling demon guard, holding his wand firmly in place, a warning to all those who would attack. A nice take on the bandaged man on the Rider-Waite card. Lord of Great Strength, indeed!
The Tower would depict the Emerald Buddha image. Legend has it, that once upon a time, lightening struck the top of a chedi (comparable to a Chinese pagoda, I guess; its solid at the top) and encased inside was the tiny Buddha image. It echoes the Tower's message, that sometimes you have to smash down some structures to gain something of real value.
Oh, I wish I had the means of bringing such a deck into reality; alas, it has so much potential, but I doubt I'll ever see this idea take off.

I'll let you know when I get some pix posted at deviantart.com....some of them turned out pretty good. Not deck quality, but you might like them just the same.
I may be going to Bali this summer/fall....that should be incredible.
