Is this the Tarot of the Old Path deck?
If so, I love the Majors but the Minors give me the creeps... the colours and artwork seems so eighties, and not as beautiful or evocative of meaning as the Majors. :( Shame...
Let us know how you get on with it!
Blessings,
Kiama

Oh yeah it is meant to be tarot of the old path - silly me.
Well i've had a feel through and you can definately tell the different influences on the cards from the different people the artist has referred to. I like that though, because the artist hasn't hidden away the unique influences but all done in the same style.
The re-wording of a few cards doesnt bother me, and the majors are gorgeous! Things that did grab my attention was Justice is a MAN! thats a new one on me, and that in the Temptation / Devil theres a blank corner where the cunning fox (symbolising the Devil) has white eyes. Does the white corner mean something? or a corner the artist forgot about?
There is alot of white in this deck - but thats rather refreshing after so many artists cover every little bit of the card with colour! The back of the cards have a minty feel to them, which adds to their refreshiveness.
The people in the minors are alittle odd, but all people look funny because people just are odd shapes. Seems about medieval/renaissance in feel, but im down with all that. I like their chubby faces lol Too many people in tarot look like models than people! I think they are easier to relate to!
Hmm thats my feelings so far! Any other comments for owners of this Tarot of the old PATH (not people *d'oh*)

Congratulations on your new deck.
I recieved mine a few weeks ago, and I just love all images, but mainly the major arcanas'. The colors are soft, but vibrant.
This deck 'speaks' to me in a very unusual way for some reason although I am not wiccan or pagan;). ( I think this deck may become my main reading deck once I get hold of the minute details that are written in the book that is sold separately.
If you are also without this book, you may want to read about the major arcana interpretations here:

The minors are rather self-explanatory.

I bought the book with the cards (all the wonders of Ebay) I havent had a chance to read it properly, but it does go into some (but not lots!) of detail about the card and the symbolism. It seems good as a deck book, but i wouldnt say its the best! The best deck book i've read so far is the Mythic tarot - where it explains the symbols and the myths that go with the charactors used!
I've also got 78degrees of wisdom today, so i'm going to have my nose stuck in a few books for awhile lol.

Enjoy your new deck, Inanna . It has been my favourite reading deck for a long time.
So, the minors seem at first a little disappointing - don't worry - its how they read that is important and for me it has always read true.
My only disappointment was the book. Den Elders Majors interpretations are definitely worth more.

I love this deck as well, but don't read with it so much now. I must revisit it.
Some of us did some extensive study of the major arcana and they are easily locatable through a search. I think they are all in a special studies forum category - forgot what it is called.
Tarot of the Old People was a wonderful slip! Wiccans are the old people! Old in wisdom and knowledge. :)

Thanks to Moongold, I changed the title on the thread. :D :D I hope doing that we don't lose the lovely inadvertant humour.
I got my TotOP a couple of years ago when Ravenswing was cutting back his deck collection. He was trading 2 for 1 and he threw in this deck. I have always liked it.

This deck has the best Hermit I've ever seen in any deck or will, I expect, ever see in any other . . . I also love the Empress. I'm using her scan as wallpaper right now! Some of the other majors, however, are disappointing. For example--is it the World?? There's a nude woman, either the World or the Star, that's just plain ugly (the card, that is, not so much the woman.) She's got tiny stars coming out of her breasts, as I recall . . . I don't know, it just doesn't work for me. Oh well.
I don't read much with this deck, although I was awfully excited about it when I first got it . . . I think the book would help. There's a lot there that I think I just don't get.
A lot of people complain about the white borders, but I think they make this deck unique!

its on the Universe/World card where the woman cups her breasts and a few stars come out. It does look alittle crude i'd agree, but its very fitting with the recent pagan festival of Imbolc and the idea of the Goddess lactating to provide the Earth with the strength and nutrients to grow. I dont see the Goddess here feeding me, but help feed my intuition and creativity, making me feel completed in my journey of the cosmos, but still need to experience the Fool all over again and grow again.
It also springs to mind the idea of souls drinking a draft to forget their past lives - the River Styx for example, where souls that have already lived forget their lives before to live again and learn again.
just a few musings.

Ohh another thing that was interesting was that there is a man on the justice card - rather than a woman!!!
I looked it up in the book and apparently men represent wisdom - in a deck thats all about "female wisdom".
Just an odd observation. I guess i should find that study group thread lol.

Actually it's the artwork/execution itself that bothers me, not the 'crudity'. Ideologically, it's great, I'm all for it--P.

I love my TotOP. It was the first deck I bought, and it is still my favourite. In fact, all the others are now in storage.
The TotOP is well printed, on good quality stock (despite rough handling, no fraying) on a good thickness.
The imagery is good, and with so much depth, you can just read more and more from these cards. Every colour is carefully chosen, even the plants are there for a reason.
There is a fair amount of nudity, but none of it in a crude way, but rather a natural way, without Victorian inhibitions. Anyway, it was drawn by women...!
The minors are quite deep, although the meanings can be different. The 2 of wands for example is quite different from the Rider cards, although they can mean the same ultimately.
In short, I love my TotOP!
