Hey everybody,

I was wondering if you could tell me the names of tarot decks (or oracles) that have whales in them. I know of the Shapeshifter and the Gaian Tarot. And I'm not sure but I think I've heard that there is also one in the Australian Animal Tarot? Any more? It's greatly appreciated! :)

The Alchemical Tarot by Robert Place has a whale as the Ace of Cups.

EDITED TO ADD: Oops, I meant the King of Cups! :)

There are two in the Jolanda den Tredje deck: one on the Hanged Man and one on the Universe card.

This deck is also known as the Swedish Witch Tarot. The Majors only black and white version is available from Tarot Garden if I remember properly but the 78 card deck is only (?) available from Denmark or Belgium. I got mine from a trade with swedish jema. If you are interested in this deck, there are previous threads about it. jema was kind enough in one thread to translate ALL the keywords appearing on the cards. Some here use it a lot, I think Galadrial at least is or was very much into it. It has LOTS of creatures and animals on it. It is a beautiful deck with a wicked sense of humour and a deep ecological/Earth orientated theme.

Kissa

Edited to add the swedish link of the illustrator, Hans Arnold. Click on the left to view the majors, on the right for the minors. All 78 cards can be viewed here: http://www.hansarnold.com/htmls/tarot/tarot.html

There's a whale on the Ace of Cups in the Ancestral Path tarot.

I think the Empress in Animal-Wise is a whale.

Animal-Wise is a great tarot, EVERYONE SHOULD OWN A COPY (that way I'd have someone to discuss it with :| )

P.

(--Oops, wrong, the Empress is a dolphin, & Judgment is the whale.)

Thanks for the help. That's great that the Medicine Cards have a whale in them, I wanted to have them anyway. Punchinella, the Animal-Wise is on my wishlist too! When I get it sometime, I contact you! :)

Punchinella, I was wondering, do you use the Animal-Wise like any other Tarot deck or more like an oracle?

P....

Punchinella!
I love this deck, and I use it regularly!
Let's talk!
:D

Hi Tauni--I just bought it a little while ago, but it pretty much stops my heart . . . it's . . . it's . . . well, it's EXACTLY what I want to be using . . .

In regards to your question Darla, never having used an oracle I can't really say! But one thing with Animal-Wise that I do find is that it works best to only pull one card at a time (if it's for me) or, say, one card to represent each person involved in a particular situation . . . each card is so powerful/rich that it sort of stands alone, if you know what I mean. What I'll do is use another deck for the 'regular' reading, but then enrich it with animal card(s) at the end.

The animal cards are powerful in a different sort of a way. They stick with you . . . & stick with you . . . the influence is deeper, or something, or more pervasive, or . . . well, maybe it's just me :|

Ted Andrews' book is really good too. It's so specific that it's almost weird.

:)

Oh no! Now I really want to have it! This place is terrible (you know what I mean ;))! I like the idea of enriching regular readings with animal cards. Although I can picture myself using this deck for regular readings too.

Darla,
I use this deck as a regular tarot, which it is.
It has RWS major card titles, and RWS suit titles accompany the thematic suit titles on the minor arcana.
I must point out that it is the only tarot deck with keywords that I actually like.
More importantly, I have continually gotten very favorable querent reactions to this deck.
Since it's all animals in nature, no one is excluded (or overly included), and no one is offended by nudity, strange symbolism, or unorthodox religiosity.
(If I ever get a querent who is offended by nekkid elephants, I'm in trouble!)
After four years with the Animal-Wise Tarot, it remains one of my best reading decks.
:)
