I just got this deck today, brand new, factory sealed. Only when I opened it, the deck really smells strongly of acetate/acetone, that fingernail polish smell! I was looking through each card & had to actually get up & fan the area, it was that strong.
Do all of them smell like this? It's definately not that 'new card smell' people talk about! The box doesn't smell, just the cards, which were sealed in plastic with that little gold pull strip.

Hi, HudsonGrey. My Animal Lords didn't smell like that, but the Light and Shadow did -- within several days of opening the seal and exposing the deck to air, the acetate smell dissipated. It was really strong and took a couple of weeks to clear completely.

All of my Lo Scarabeo decks smell the same. I like it. :D but it does go away, sniff sniff...

Now we know the secret to Firemaiden's great readings!

My Animal Lords had that smell, too. And a couple of other decks -- I think the Vision, and something else.
I have bad asthma, so I fan the decks out and put them on the window sill. I can't really use them until the smell is gone.
Someone here suggested putting them in a box with white sage, but I haven't tried that.

Ok, so it wasn't just my deck (whew! In more ways than one).
Firemaiden, huffing kills brain cells, hope you know that! Sniffing magic markers do too! Course so does a bottle of wine...hmm.
These cards will be getting aired out. I'm glad someone's previous post had mentioned the 'used' look to them, also. They're covered with scratches and spatters of watercolor paint, more noticeable on some than on other cards, but each card has some marring on them. I wonder why the artist added that?

My Tarot of the Cat People had an odd smell- I think perhaps from the dye used. It went away after airing it out for a couple of days. I also won a deck on ebay that had been stored in a smoker's home. I aired it out for several days, which helped, but then read the post about storing it with white sage. I tried it and it works well for me; white sage is a much nicer smell than stale tobacco smoke:-)
