"It's my party and I'll scry if I want to"

It was a great birthday for me. Besides enjoying perfect weather and a nice dinner out, my mom got me the Healing tarot (the scans don't do it justice) and my husband ordered Samantha's tarot for me (yea! I've been wanting it for a long time:-) Also, my dad sent me a $20.00 and I'd just been reading the underrated decks thread and become enamoured of the Karma tarot, so I took a chance and ordered it.
What great decks have you gotten as birthday presents?

ros  16 Mar 2004
Happy Belated Birthday!

The one & only tarot deck as a birthday gift was "Servents of the Light."

Astraea  16 Mar 2004
Wow! That is a wonderful birthday bounty! My husband bought me the Universal Dali tarot for my birthday last year, and that was a real thrill. Enjoy your new decks!

Tarotmyst  16 Mar 2004
Glad you had a happy birthday.

The Karma deck is absolutely wonderful (imho). I bought it on a bit of a whim, after breifly seeing it online and then spotting it at my local tarot store. It is very different and took me a few look throughs to get used to it but is one i really hope to study more in the future.

Glad you had such a happy "tarot" birthday, Galadrial :) No doubt you will have a wonderful time getting to know your new decks!

I love getting tarot "things" for birthdays - I was also very blessed for my birthday last month and was given the Radiant Rider Waite and also got the Mythic tarot with money I was given as well.

The best gift though was not a deck, but a beautiful very old box (about 30cm x 12cm x 15cm), that was restored and given to me by my Mum. I can fit seven of my most frequently used decks (in their little bags) in this lovely box - I love it so much it now sits in a special place on my coffee table :)

Happy birthday! Sounds like you got some wonderful presents. I was spoilt a few years ago when my ex husband bought me my Victoria Regina and Halloween decks for my birthday. I was absolutely thrilled!

I have a couple of books on my birthday wish list, despite the fact that my birthday is 6 months away! :)

lunakasha  16 Mar 2004
Happy Birthday, galadrial!

I have never received a tarot birthday gift....probably because I have never asked for one! ;) I am still kinda "secretive" about my little addiction...although two of my brothers and some friends are aware and supportive.

If I could make a wish upon a star, or say a little prayer to the Tarot Gods....the one and only deck that I would ask for would be the Limited Edition Gilded.....oooooooh, now THAT would be something to treasure forever!:D

Now, I really hope the Tarot Gods are paying attention right now, because my b-day is coming up next month, and the only way I am ever going to get this deck is through divine intervention! ;) hehe.....it doesn't hurt to dream, right???

:) Luna

Glad you had a good one Galadrial....:)

For my birthday this year, my eldest daughter bought me Clive Barrett's Ancient Egyptian tarot, which I think is first-rate. My partner for the same birthday got me the Tarot of Prague!

A year last Christmas, my partner got me two decks: Tarot of the Renaissance (LoScarabeo) and Tarot of Casanova.

How lucky am I?? :)

May all AT-ers be equally blessed!

Wildwood  17 Mar 2004
forgot to add...

What do I really want for my next birthday?? Why, the Greenwood of course!!!

Somehow, I don't think its going to happen...but I will keep the faith! ;)

My hubby got me the Illuminated for my last birthday and he gave me a gift card for Barnes and Noble too.
Guess what I bought with it.....
More decks. :D
I'm hopeless.

Yep....I am fully expecting to blow any and all birthday cash on tarot decks...now I just need to decide which ones!!!

lunakasha  20 Mar 2004
OK...I think I have narrowed it down a bit....

Birthday decks (from me, to me!) that I hope to add to my collection (with only about $75-100 to spend):

Secret Tarot--darkly mysterious, incredible artwork....sounds perfect! })

Ancient Egyptian--love the artwork in this deck, it actually "looks" ancient, if that makes sense...I've been wanting an Egyptian deck and this is my favorite one ;)

Ancestral Path--I LOVE this deck, I've wanted it for a looooong time...and most of you know I'm not very patient!

Jungian--Very interested in this one, love the color and detail in this deck...I've heard it is very intuitive to work with. :D

I found them all at amazon.com....and total under $80.....yippee!!!

So...anyone else have any Birthday Bounty to share????

Perhaps someone recently acquired the Gilded, hmmmm????

:D Luna (jealous of anyone with Gilded Bounty...hehe! }) )

lunakasha  28 Mar 2004
I am wondering if anyone has a birthday coming up???

Anyone planning on asking for some new decks, bags, etc. for your birthday???

Mine is coming up soon....I will probably end up buying 3 or 4 new decks with my birthday money.....which I am VERY excited about!

I am definitely getting the Secret and Ancient Egyptian decks....and also leaning toward the Symbolon Cards....I may be getting the Voyager set as an "early" present for myself...hehe!!!

Anyway....are there any more "spring babies" who would like to share their bounty with the rest of us???? ;)

:) Luna

Darla  28 Mar 2004
Do you mean the Lo Scarabeo Secret Tarots by Marco Nizzoli? I want this one so bad!!! My birthday is in November so I guess I just have to give myself a little treat before that. I just can't decide whether to buy the Secret, the Shapeshifter or the new Pagan Tarot.

The Ancient Egyptian is a nice choice also! I'm not much interested in Egyptian mythology but I love the artwork!

Happy buying! :)

lunakasha  28 Mar 2004
Hi Darla!

Yes, that is the Secret Tarot I am dying for right now!!! I have read so many posts about it, that I just HAVE to get it!!!! The artwork is so nice, and it has such a dark and mysterious energy...I think it will become an instant favorite! :)

So...your birthday is is November???
Well then, you could always ask for the Gilded, right??? LOL :D
I plan to get mine and consider it my "half" birthday present (I'll be 36 and a half in October....)

:D Luna

Secret:
Tell me about it! I've been wanting it ever since I first looked at the pictures. And the more I read about it the more I want it!

Right, I should tell my family to get me the limited edition of the Gilded! With 400$ plus shipping to Europe for a Tarot deck they will probably send me straight to the psychiatry. :D What a great place to celebrate one's 21 birthday! I should really start talking them into this, I've just got 8 months left! ;)

The Secret Tarot is very unique and kind of a romantically dark deck, from what I have heard....I have only seen six of the cards but the artwork really speaks to me....

The reviews I have read talked about the fact that there is a story being told in these cards....it sounds absolutely fascinating and mysterious....I have GOT to have it!!!! I can't tell you more than that because I don't own the deck and have never read with them....but I just have a feeling about them! :D

The Gilded LE....$400 and being committed....LMAO!!!! I know my family would react the same way!!!! But what I was talking about is that the Llewellyn version of the deck is due for release in October....probably for around $30 for the set (estimate).
So now you have something to look forward to!!!!
Please let me know if you do get the Secret deck....I am thinking maybe we could start a study group???

:) Luna

contrascarpe  28 Mar 2004
Well I have a birthday coming up and my brother had already given me an early present of the Victoria Regina set. I don't anticipate any more decks coming my way because I tend to get so many for myself, nobody can keep up, hehe. In fact, I have a deck I got for myself on eBay for my birthday (Vision Quest) as well as a bid on another I really want (Quest). The Secret Tarot is also a wish of mine - maybe later.

I have been able to find more than 30 cards of the Secret online and I loved every one of them! A study group is a great idea! I'll let you know when I get it because as I know me it won't be long until I crack. And talking about how fascinating it is doesn't help either! ;)

THIRTY cards???? Wow....would you be able to PM me with the links???? That would be sooooo great...thanks!

lunakasha  29 Mar 2004
Hey Darla!!!

I found some of those pics of the Secret Tarot (not all 30 though) and printed them off....ooooooh, I cannot WAIT to get these cards!!! My birthday is less than a month away...YIPPEEEEE!!!!

:D Luna

lunakasha  03 Apr 2004
OK.....so now we are into April, and my birthday draws near.....

I have been thinking (obsessing) about which decks I would like to add to my collection....also looking into a couple of tarot books!

Right now I am looking at the Secret Tarot and Tarot de Casanova (LoS) and the Ancient Egyptian (Clive Barrett), for starters....

Then I was thinking, I might have another $30-40 to spend on books....any suggestions???? Time is ticking away here....

Oh....anyone else having a birthday in April????
Don't be shy...I promise not to ask how old you're going to be!!!

:D Luna (who shall be turning......23 this year......:D  :D)

lunakasha  17 Apr 2004
I just went to an amazing little metaphysical store called Enchantments (with Momof3girls :) ) and bought myself two beautiful new decks for my birthday:

Templar Tarot.....which is hauntingly beautiful, yet somewhat disturbing at the same time. First impression: How can a deck be so colorful and so dark at the same time???? Interesting!!! :P

Symbolon.....these cards are going to be AMAZING to work with, I can tell already....we connected immediately!!! They remind me of fairy tale cards....and they include both happy and scary endings!!! })

I am very pleased with my new decks....time to go play with my new best friends!!! :D

:) Luna

galadrial  17 Apr 2004
Birthday Blessings, lunakasha! The Templar is one of my favorite decks, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I've seen scans of the Symbolon and it does indeed look great for storytelling. Enjoy your new decks:-)

Thanks, galadrial!!! :D

Actually my birthday is still a week away but....I went shopping early, LOL!!!

I am very excited about both of these decks....there is just something about the Templar cards that draws me in, hard to explain really. They are just very...interesting....strange....unique!})

The Symbolon cards are not exactly tarot cards, although most if not all of the Majors are represented in the deck. Beyond that, the cards represent what the authors consider to be the most common universal themes of human experience. Not unlike the way Jung's archetypes inspired many of the images pictured on traditional (at least RW-inspired) tarot cards. I LOVE the artwork and I feel a strong connection to them already! :)

Thanks for the birthday wishes....blessings to you!

:) Luna

Darla  18 Apr 2004
Hey Luna, congratulations on your new decks! I haven't heard of the Symbolon but I have been flirting with the Templar for a long time. It's fascinating, isn't it? Have you already read with it?

Hey Darla!!!

You can view the Symbolon cards here:

http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/symbolon/

However, the scans do not do them justice....these cards are GORGEOUS!!!! They are bordered by gold, and the backs of the cards are gold too....more like an antique gold or bronze, actually. They are also NOT tarot cards, but can be used in the same way, and also for past-life readings and meditative work. I would highly recommend them...tarotgarden is the only place I know of that carries them.

The Templar looks VERY interesting! I am anxious to do a reading with them....

I am still planning to get the Secret deck.....SOON!!!!!
Have you gotten yours yet??? I have been following the study group...biting my tongue, LOL!!!!

:) Luna

Darla  18 Apr 2004
Hi Luna,

No I don't have the Secret yet. Yesterday I couldn't hold myself any longer and joined the discussions in the group. Did you see that somebody posted links of all the cards in the deck? Wow! Now I want it more than ever!

The Symbolon look very interesting! I love that there are 80 cards, most times oracles have not enough cards in my taste. Do you plan to try past live readings with it?

Actually there are 78 cards...did it say 80 on the link??? Nope, 78 cards, just not the same 78 cards as a tarot deck!!! But of course there are many similarites, if you really wanted to spend the time "identifying" each Symbolon card with its tarot equivalent. I am looking at it as a unique deck with its own personality and will try not to spend too much time comparing it to other decks...at least not right now! I would love to try a past-life reading sometime, but I haven't a clue...I may need to do some research on this subject, as it is very interesting to me! :)

Sorry...I think we are getting off-topic a bit here....or are we??? LOL....

Birthday Bounty~ yes, OK....I do still plan to get the Secret with my birthday money...also the Bosch...twisted little cards! }) I hope both of us get the Secret soon....I saw the link and I am definitely in love.....*sigh* :(

:) Luna

twilight_reader  18 Apr 2004
Last year my husband got me the Fantastical Tarot and a book about making your own spreads...I think it's by Michelson. It made for a fantastic birthday. Hopefully he'll get me another deck this year. My birthday is in November, so it should be right in time for the Gilded.

lunakasha  30 Apr 2004
OK.....so my birthday was last week and I got money from most everyone, which came in handy cuz I needed it for....basic necessities! :(

Not the way I wanted to spend it, BUT.....I made myself a promise that when my long-overdue compensation came through, then I would spend my birthday money on--what else?--TAROT PRESENTS!!!!:laugh::laugh: The precioussssssss })

Well, today....FINALLY....I was able to place my order with amazon....and being the impatient person that I am, I decided to *splurge* for 2-day shipping (FREE shipping lately has been taking over two weeks.....NOT good!)

I have ordered the Secret Tarots, Tarot de Casanova and the Bosch Tarot (all LoS decks, isn't that funny!).

In addition to these, I have also ordered some books that I have been wanting forever:

Lon Milo Duquette's Understanding Aleister Crowley's Thoth Tarot, Ziegler's Tarot: Mirror of the Soul (another guide to the Thoth), and Kate Warwick-Smith's Tarot Court Cards.

I am sooooo excited....they should arrive on Wednesday!!! :D

:D Luna

Happy belated birthday!!! :)

babyd  01 May 2004
For Christmas last year my hubby surprised me with the limited edition Gilded Tarot. I was stunned ! It was so beautiful and what he'd put on the personalised 79th card was so wonderful that it made me cry.

I have the best Hubby !!

It (my b-day) felt kinda strange at the time....like I couldn't really enjoy it much because I was SOOOOO stressed about finances. But now that things are more secure, I am feeling MUCH happier! :D :D :D

So....I say, what's wrong with a "belated" birthday??? I am feeling much better today than I did on the actual day....and when I receive my new decks and books....then I will be truly ecstatic!!!! :joke:

Seriously...I feel very blessed at this moment, for many reasons.....

That's great, lunakasha!

I have the Secret Tarot and really like working with it. I think the Magician, the Moon, Knight of Cups, 3 of Swords and 6 of Swords are my favorites from that deck- but really there are several very interesting cards; the 5 of Pentacles and 10 of Wands are very thought provoking, and I like the use of men in a tavern for the 3 of Cups. And the color scheme! I love his choice of colors:-) Enjoy enjoy!

Centaur  01 May 2004
Let me just get a plug in for the Secret Tarot study group. LOL. A few of us are discussing the cards in the General section of the Study Group forum.

The more the merrier! :)

Darla  01 May 2004
Hey Luna, that is so great that you are finally getting all those great decks and books :) I'm still waiting for my Secret deck to arrive and I really hope it will be here on Monday. This waiting is torture!
Can't wait to discuss the Secret!!! .D
