Hello all....

My Crowley Thoth Deck is about 10 years old, has seen serious use, and shows it. This is the 3 magi deck put out by US Games ISBN: 0-88079-308-2.

I am seeking info on any deck that is not US Games, and where it is available.

I am looking at the deck by AGMuller in the Blue Box, www.TarotWorld.com.
Does any one have this deck, and what do you think of it?

Also I found the deck at Abebooks.com

THOTH : TAROT DECK
RED WHEEL/WEISER. . ISBN:0877284520 Bookseller Inventory #0877284520-0

I found it on www.abebooks.com. But there is little discription or details of
the cards themselves.

I just want a true. clear, beautiful rendition of the deck.

Because i am buying the on line i am seeking some help.
thanks

Hi Dancer,

I don't have the AGMuller blue box version of the Thoth but I have seen it in the shops - but did you know that US Games, it has Weiser on the box, have re-released the large Green box version with very vivid colours that could rival AGMuller's blue box version.

The US Games version previously had a very poor quality both in colour and detail but this new version is very different. I've only had mine a few weeks and I'm very impressed with it - its a little more brighter than the Thoth in the lavender box with three Magus. I bought my new large Thoth off Amazon UK because of one of the reviews there saying that all green tint had gone, I took and chance and ordered it for half the price of the AGMuller blue box version (which they didn't have anyway lol) - but I'm glad I did.

I know you didn't ask about the US Games Thoth but I just thought I would mention it. :)

I've just re-read your posting and the second deck you have mentioned ISBN 0-87728-452-0 is the Large Green box version of the Thoth - the non-green version I have.

Hi Emily.....
Thank you for posting. I was staying away from the grren boxed set, because i heard it had a green tint to all the cards. i am glad to no it is gone.

i am still not sure which deck i will go with, but probably it will be the Red Wheel/Wieser. It is in the US, and i will get it sooner.

But not sure yet.

thanx

Hi Dancer,

Its a lovely version, I've seen so much detail on these cards it seems like a new deck to me - I'd been struggling on with the green tinged version, which is also very blurry, and the standard 3 Magus version in the lavender box. :)

Hi dancer!!!

I found a website where you can search for books by ISBN number.....here is a list of available copies of the one you mentioned in your post:

http://isbn.nu/0877284520

The description on this website indicates that you would be purchasing the 1976 version of the large Thoth deck...Red Wheel Weiser is the publisher.

I am not sure if this would be the icky green-tinted version or not...I have the green one, and the ISBN number for mine matches the number you have listed.

Good luck to you in finding the Thoth you are looking for...I am also in the market for a non-green version, so I will be watching this thread pretty closely!

Hi Luna and Dancer,

The ISBN numbers are the same for the green tinted deck and the new version clear non-green deck. I know Amazon UK have the new colour version in, thats where I had mine from, but you'd have to be careful that other online stores or even bookshops didn't try to sell you an older green version.

one way to tell would be to look at the back of the cards, the date on the back should read 1996. One thing that does puzzle me is that the booklet is US Games, the cards have AGMuller on them but they are published by Weiser - is this an off-shoot of US Games I wonder?

I also have the older white box version with the green cards in and this has the same ISBN number.

Hope this helps. :)

For Buyers - Swiss version recommended
My Swiss version has the large size and darkest colors, contained in AGMueller's blue box. This edition was printed in 1986 and has the ISBN 3-905021-60-9. It took me awhile to dig this out and also find the vendor:

http://www.tarotworld.com/

I believe it is page four if you click on tarots. It is is the 'deluxe' version and the gray frames, darker and more brillant colors and availability in different languages is probably what a picky buyer or collector would want.

Tarotpassages reviews this brighter, more brilliant version:

---------------------------------------
I realize that the smaller lavendar boxed version by U.S. Games looks brighter than the softer, larger version out of the large green box by U.S. Games. I like the new booklet by James Wasserman from the green box as well the older booklet ("By a Tarot Hermit") from the Swiss blue box.

In some ways, a softer Thoth from the green box might make a nice reading deck if I wanted to have a Thoth for reading to others. But I'm trying to compare it to a vivid new deck. So when I saw online about the older deck, I am glad that I didn't try to trade my older deck out.

Hi Mari,

I have the US Games lavender box version and the new large green box version, US Games/Weiser, and when the cards are compared to each other the new green box Thoth is just a little bit brighter than the smaller cards - not too much but just enough to see the difference.

I've only ever seen the Fool card from the blue box AGMuller Thoth but it looked very similiar colourwise to this new Green box version.

I used the green tinged Thoth in the white box for a while and its such a pleasure to be able to see the detail on these new large cards.
