I'm tempted by this deck ... well, I live on an island surrounded by sea so it was going to be one that caught my eye, wasn't it? ;) I've got my eye on one for sale on Ebay and I've been mulling it over for a couple of days. Comments about an abundance of bare mermaid breasts made me wonder if it was just a 'pretty' deck rather than a working deck.
I'm working with the Faeries Oracle at the moment and was walking along the beach path to collect my daughter from school when I glanced at the beach. There, unusually for the first of March, was a domed sandcastle topped with a sandpie and complete with moat ... yes, you've guessed it, my immediate impression was of a female breast moulded in sand.
I suspect that I've just become a source of great humour for the Faeries! :joke:
Just in passing, there are a pair of Japanese tarot decks on Ebay UK, finishing tomorrow evening I think, and both are original Japanese editions. Neither is named but one is a 78 card deck and the other is only 22. It's difficult to tell much about the decks from the handful of cards illustrated but the seller has an excellent rating. I don't know if there are any collectors here that might be interested?

I'm still awaiting my Tarot of Mermaids that I ordered from Chapters on January 12. It's surprisingly hard to acquire...it's not on Amazon, only in the UK, and on one other website that's apparently unreliable. Plus a few other small dealers that I've never heard of. I always loved mermaids and I hear it's pretty good to work with. There are some older threads on it if you use the search feature. I'm getting really anxious for it at this point :(

i agree; the colors, particularly, are what drew me to this deck. so whimsical yet not childish... ooh la la, i love it.

I have been thinking about getting this deck too. I too would be interesting in what others have to say about it.

I'm curious about it as well, mainly b/c I was thinking of getting it for a friend for her birthday. She's REALLY into mermaids. How's the artwork, anyone have it?

Bumping this to ask if anyone has this deck and, if so, how easy or hard is it to read with? I've had trouble reading with every Lo Scarabeo deck I've ever bought, but this deck keeps swimming into my view each time I wander through an online store.

Well, I finally gave in and bought it, so I guess I'll know soon enough whether I can read with it or not.

I finally got my deck, after waiting 2 months from Chapters to have them cancel my order and then just ordering it from B&N in the States. It's quite pretty. I haven't had a chance to read with it yet, but hopefully soon :) I have noticed that the facial features on the mermaids aren't as defined in the minor arcana--they're almost kind of blurred, at a distance. But I don't think it's going to bother me. The colours are mesmerizing and the artwork is beautiful.

I have had the deck for some time. It was sent to me by a dear friend because I lover mermaids and collect them.
The artwork is beautiful, if you like mermaids you will probably "ooooooohhhh" and "aaaaaahhhhh", but as a tarot deck I believe it leaves much to be desired. It is more of a collectors piece in my opinion.

I agree with Jewel. I find the deck difficult to read with, because for me the mood of the cards is all very samey. It is however pretty, just not in the same league as (say) the Fey for reading with.
I was disappointed.

well i have the deck as well, and yes in the minor acrana it is a bit iffy. but the major arcana has alot of the sybolium(sorry for my misspellin, i do that alot >_<) that i like to look for. looking at the fool, there is a fish nipping at the mermaid instead of the dog, and ther hermit has his lantern, the magicain has his infinity sign, the hieropant even has two mermaids looking up at him listening to him. but the one that i loved the best was the moon.if you are looking at the raider-whight version, it has the two towers, the dogsm and the crayfish, and of course the moon. the was the artitst did it was perfict and inventive with the mermaid's tail. but i also think depending on who or what you are doing the resding for should help you choose your deck. but i don't recomend this as a first deck. but i still like it alot!

Hi, Raycyden, and welcome to AT! I agree with you that some of the cards are, hmm, so-so, but I get a lovely tranquil feeling whenever I just shuffle the cards. I used it in a reading this past weekend, and was pretty bowled over at its accuracy.

I've only had this deck for a couple of days but I feel I must jump in on this...
I have been reading tarot for years.. so I am not new at reading so keep this in mind.. but I find the cards lovely, rich in symbolism, and extremely easy to read. I wouldn't recommend this deck if you are trying to learn tarot.. you should start with something like the Robin Wood tarot.. but you COULD use this as a second tarot. If you can incorporate other signs (gems and such) into the symbolism, then this could be used as a starter deck - but its not something I would recommend... but again, if you know something about tarot you can use this.
On a scale of 5 stars (or shells in this case) I would rate it at a 4. Its functional, beautiful, easy to understand (for me anyway), and makes an overall purchase worth buying.. If it had been easy for beginners to use I would rate it at 5.

It's all horses for courses.
I wonder if it matters how you read: I tend to pay a lot of attention to how I feel inside when I look at a card, and the Mermaids don't call out a kinaesthetic response. I feel as if I am missing half the story if I only have my visual sense to go on - I can understand the pictures in my head but not in my gut.
Presumably some of the decks I like don't 'speak' to other people.

I bought this deck yesterday. I don't know if I will read a lot with it, but it's very beautiful (the colours!!!) and it definately inspires me (writing stories)
That makes the deck a good buy for me.

I have this deck, and I have bought a second one as I think it relates very much to the RW symbolism, very simple and easy to read with. Very romantic looking so great for relationship spreads. Looks so pretty too that querents who are slightly afraid of tarot would be happy to see this one, calming.
I know what people mean about LS decks. I love the art of them, but most bear no relation to the meaning of the card, making them impossible to read with.
This one however is different. Obvious RW symbology. Don't be afraid to try this deck, it is stunningly calming and fairly straightforward to read. I have only a little tarot experience, learnt with universal waite and Robin Wood, but can read the mermaid deck just fine.
