Dearest Voyager aficcionados,
I confess I am new to the Tarot, and new to this wonderful forum, but I would welcome discussions about the Voyager tarot, that I received, yesterday, as a gift. What a gift!
Please do share your experience with, love for and expertise about this deck with me.
I was flabbergasted by its incredible beauty! It had an extraordinary impact on me, and the accompanying book is such a delight. The mandala spread struck me immediately as being most unusual.
I hope this post will be the inception of an individual Voyager deck thread...
Please do share your experience with, love for, and expertise about this deck with me.
Thank you.

Sorry, luna. Is this thread redundant, then?
I love what you are all doing on that thread! I would like to join in, but since I am still so new to Voyager... I would hate to blunder in ineptly. :)

Hi Namaste, and welcome! :D
The thread you just went to is altogether different from this one...and that one has actually ended...:( I think lunalafey wanted to share one of her posts which incorporated the Voyager deck (please correct me if I'm way off, luna! ;) )
BUT firemaiden has recently started a new journey with Luna, here:
http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23911
As for the Voyager, there may be some older threads you can browse (did you try a search for Voyager?) but I have not seen any recent discussion of this deck, so I think it is more than appropriate that you've started fresh!
I do not own the Voyager, but have been lusting after it for much too long...I would very much enjoy hearing from others who enjoy reading with these beautiful and unusual cards....

Hi lunakasha!
Thank you so very very much for your help and all the links! :)
Since I am new here, I was just afraid that I had started a redundant thread. I appreciate luna's sharing of her journey with us who are attracted to the Voyager.
I have only had my Voyager deck for a week, but the first time I turned to it, it answered my question without equivocation.
I wanted to see what Voyager could tell me of my return to the journey. The card that fell into my hands was Woman of Wands, Sensor.
Trust your way of knowing. ... Natural and wild, colorful and artistic, sensual and ritualistic, you are a shamaness -- here to vitalize, liberate and heal.
I took this as a very good omen.
The deck is very difficult to obain now, I am told, since it passed into the hands of a smaller publisher.
I hope Voyager will find you, lunakasha. I would love to explore its worlds and wisdom with you and all other voyagers, whether new to the deck or not.
Please, all Voyager lovers come and join me, so we can explore together. :)

Namaste,
I've recently begun using my Voyager again, after letting it sit on the shelf for some time. It was my first Tarot deck, and consequently the deck I learned to read Tarot with.
I don't know what the newer printing is like, but mine (which I purchased new in 1988 or so) has large cards, a bit stiff to shuffle, so I tend to just sort of drop them onto each other, or fan them out. I used this deck for a couple of readings that I did for others here at Aeclectic a week or so ago.
http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23585 (The Shop is currently closed.)
I can't commit to a Study Group on this deck right now, but will gladly partake in any discussions that I have time for. I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for this lovely deck. One of my favorite Strength cards is the one in the Voyager deck. :)

I'm a fan of the Voyager deck, as well, though I don't own one yet. The person who originally got me into Tarot was a big fan of it and I was impressed by the stunning imagery.

My idea would be that I would create a thread for the exploration of this deck, and, once in a while I, or anyone else who is interested in Voyager would post:
1) a partial VTGbk interpretation of a card one of us has chosen at random from our shuffled decks, together with a
2) personal interpretation for that card.
3) Then the others could post their personal interpretations of that card.
By doing this, we could deepen our understanding of this beautiful, albeit unusal deck.
What do you all think? No pressure; just a leisurely exploration and learning experience. :)

We meet again, OakDragon. :)
The deck appears to be difficult to get, but I think amazon still carries it, should it ever be on your wishlist. :) I checked here at Aeclectic to see if it is possible to order it from them, but the link is to amazon. (If you can support Aeclectic with its acquisition it would be better, of course).
It would be great to have you on the voyage!

Thank you so much for the link, Khatruman! :)
I read your message and find your question very interesting. Perhaps a Canadian perspective might be interesting?
I am happy to see that you are interested in discussing the imagery of Voyager, an aspect of the deck that really interests me also.
I will attempt to offer my opinion over in that thread. Would you be willing to discuss the imagery of other Voyager cards as well?

This sounds like an excellent idea, Namaste!
I am currently involved in a similar study group for the Sacred Circle...actually there are two separate threads: one is a randow card draw, where each person draws a card and posts their thoughts and interpretations of that card. The second one--which is the one I've been posting to--is a different card each week and everyone posts their interpretations for that particular card. We started with the Ace of Swords, then the Two, Three, and so on. It is a great way to practice really looking at a card and coming up with your own, personal feelings about it. I prefer not to read the other posts until after I have posted, so that I am not influenced by what others have said....but when you go back and compare with others, there are many similarities as well as perspectives that you may have overlooked....
I look forward to getting myself a Voyager deck and joining the discussion...not sure how soon I can get it, but will stay connected to the process here until I have no choice but to give in! ;) Knowing me, it shouldn't take long....
Thanks for resurrecting interest in the Voyager...

I discovered my Voyager deck through reading a wonderful book by Michele Mogan called A Magical Course in Tarot.
It is one of her main reading decks and she talks about it in such glowing terms that I just had to get the deck.
So I'll be poping in from time to time too.
It's a wonderful very different deck.
Perfect for intuitive reading.

Lunakasha, I hope you get it!
I see a review at Amazon that mentions Voyager is accessible for immediate readings, even for beginners. That's very much how it was described to me before I first bought it, and so true -- at least for me.
The designer's background in political science does come through, and I think that's what people have seen as a hard edge or corporate feel to it.
For me that doesn't come across as a negative for this deck at all. I like that the images and symbols are based more on history and contemporary life than on any particular spiritual or religious slant, or any fantasy-based theme. It makes the deck more appealing to people who know nothing of Tarot and might be put off by a more traditional deck. If I were to read for someone who's a little leery of Tarot as too "occult" or fantastic for them, this is the deck I'd choose. It's grounded and earthy.
I guess I'm sort of falling in love with it all over again.

I might have been using the deck without those two cards since I got them three weeks ago, although I swear that when I first got them, I did count them and there were 78. I must have put them all back inside the box and then taken them out again, minus these two. I found them sort of stuck to the inside of the original box. LOL

I agree 100% with what you say, Nevada.
I find it an easy deck to "step into'; as if I were actually among the different objects, vistas, artifacts, and people, exploring them one by one to form each card's story. It helped me to discover how 'visual' I am. I find I'm attracted to visually rich decks, now, although I have had difficulty finding others (appart from the Rohrig) that are as intense.
If anyone has any suggestions for other visually stunning decks, please do message me privately, since I think we have to keep on topic in the forums (?). :)

I admit that I feel somewhat like that towards my decks.
I am glad that I ordered this book!
Do we really ever have enough? }) So many new worlds to discover..., and I have found that one really does need the accompanying book to the decks, because of the way that each author has conceived them, if you don't want to rely on intuition alone.
I started off with Bunning's wonderful book, but have found that in spite of certain generalizations about all cards, some decks really do need their own textual context and sub-texts.
What do you think?
This is probably not the place to talk about this, but take the five of wands for example. I have seen this card interpreted both positively and negatively (without it being reversed). There is no equivocation about the Voyager five of wands, however, since the images speak for themselves.
I do look forward to exploring the Voyager cards with you all. :)

Even earning well, I find that buying decks, while always worth it, can become very onerous.

I know what you mean about the cost of decks. I'm all hot to get the Fey and Quest decks now, too. I heard about the sale at Joan Bunning's site, but she seems to be out of the ones I'm interested in. I suppose I'll get the Voyager first, though, so I can join in the discussion.

I'm thinking of selling my Quest deck that I've only had about a month and have never used. It doesn't really speak to me. Oh, wow. If you're sure, send me a PM and let me know what you'd like for them. That would be awesome! I'm curious also as to what you don't like about them. Is it anything you can put your finger on or is it entirely more of the indefinables that make up whether it speaks to you?

Ohhhhh yes, is there ever interest! I was just waiting for OakDragon to get his deck, but if you and others are ready to start, I will be a very willing and happy travelling companion, luna. I will be away over the weekend, but Monday will find me ready to join you. I think we should have a thread for each card, under the Voyager 'umbrella'. What do you think?
I am so happy for you! I hope you will find Voyager as inspiring and lovely as I do. *hugs, (if I may, of course)* May its wisdom bring you everything you wish.
This voyage of ours is meant to be. Just yesterday night I drew two cards. In answer to what I should know at that moment, I received the Sage of Wands and the 4 of Crystals. I was glad to receive such messages from their wisdom.
I am sure your first meeting will be a delight to you, and look forward to hearing about it, if you are willing to share your first encounters with us. :)

Yes, but it seems like long ago. I know that Jewel-ry found some.
I don't think much has been done recently, so I propose to start with the Sage of Wands. (I'll post it on Monday).

As I said before, possibly not as a regular, but I will deifnitely be popping in from time to time. :) I'm looking forward to this study group.

As much as I look forward to having you visit us. You know how I feel about your insights!
It will be a very leisurely exploration, since I would like to think we will all be engaging in this study for our enjoyment, (and mutual enlightenment, of course), but without constraints of any kind. :)

That is great news.....I didn't think they had them at amazon anymore??? Maybe you grabbed the last one! :D
I just got mine yesterday....it is AMAZING in person, so much brighter and detailed up close than it is online!
I am very much looking forward to this study group....we should talk more about how we want to do it...or has that already been discussed??? LOL....I am a little out of the loop I think....so I will go back and read the earlier posts!

They had been out of stock for quite awhile, but they just came back in. Anyone who wants one, get 'em while they're hot! I had put it on my wishlist with a "love to have" rating. I'd hoped that if someone did this it would encourage the powers that be at amazon to order more. Maybe it worked?

Good for you OakDragon...hey it never hurts to ask, right??? :D
I was afraid you might have paid some ungodly amount for one of the used copies....aren't you just amazed at how greedy some people get when they notice something is out of stock or OOP???
Now they will be stuck with them...hehehe!

I just got word that my Voyager deck will be delayed, maybe two weeks or more. I may have to cancel it. I'll be on my way to Florida by then! :(

I've had Amazon tell me a deck was going to be delayed and I was holding the deck my hand when the email came through.
It had come in the mail that morning.
So give it a few days.
You can always change the address to your new one in Florida.

Hi Namaste
I got the voyager tarot several years ago, it is certainly quite something isnt it, they are totally mind blowing. i tend to use them specifically for pyschic readings, from which i have had exellent results. You can do a reading with just one card, each card has so much information within it.
