YES - Amerigo and Mitologico!

Just couldn't help crowing - won limited editions of the Il Tarocco Mitologico Tarot AND the Il Tarocco di Amerigo Folchi Tarot in ebay bids just over an hour ago and I'm still in shock (particularly after bidding £4,490 by accident OKing it in the rush of the last few minutes - would this have been a world record if they hadn't adjusted it accordingly? That would have been a good one for you, Lawguy!). I'd never even seen these decks until they were offered but I'm absolutely delighted.

Anybody else got these decks and if so, what do you think of them?

Astraea  03 Mar 2004
Congratulations, Scorpion, this is quite a coup! You have really won a bounty and I'm very happy for you.

Dark_angel  03 Mar 2004
Congratulations!

I've heard about fending off snipers, but that's a tactic I never considered... if only I had the money. :D

Scorpion  03 Mar 2004
Thanks, Astrea and Dark Angel: I'm still in (shock and) awe! The waiting is going to be awful... I'l probably be stalking the postman by the end of next week!

Just waiting to see if I can win the Dovilio Brero Tarot too, but that's probably a lost cause as bidding ends while I'm still stuck in the office - and it's a sackable offence to do anything like that, so I can't risk it. Oh well, perhaps I should just cut my losses and be grateful for what I've already picked up.

Trigono.com, alidastore.com and tarotgarden.com will also assist if you decide to collect any more Folchi titles. Lovely, aren't they?

OOOOOH.....

Scorpion, you must be sooooooo excited!!! I would be stalking the postman too.....very nice!!!

I love Folchis, hope to get my hands on one or two in my lifetime, if I ever strike it rich...LOL!!! My fave Folchis are the Citta di Ferrara and Carnivale decks....I think! But I love them all.....
Congrats and enjoy!!!

Hi Scorpion,

Congratulations on your winning bids! I think you're going to love these decks. I have both and they are so wonderful to have...just like all Folchi tarots. Just touching them sends shivers down my spine and they are among some of my most highly treasured decks. His work actually inspired me to create my own decks. :-) Please let us know when you get them and how you like them.

Joy to you,
Maralee

So you're the b*gger who outbid me on the Mitologico, are you? Who'd have looked REAL stupid if I'd bid £4350 by mistake, eh? ;)
Sorry - no congratulations from me! :p

Gerbear  04 Mar 2004
I was going to go for the Mythological until I noticed that Stuart Kaplan had the deck listed at a later time. Glad i didn't have to go up against you.

tabbycat  06 Mar 2004
If you like Folchi decks and you have any money left ;), the seller you won those decks from has a Tarot of Sissi finishing in about 4 hours.

(whose mood has improved somewhat after winning a lot of four historical Italian decks!)

Scorpion  06 Mar 2004
Thanks everyone (including Tabbycat - glad you won a later bid. The irony was that I never intended to get into competitive bidding but it was just an adrenalin rush!). I will certainly post when they arrive and I'm sure that if I show a hint of disappointment there'll be no shortage of people willing to take them off my hands!

Yes, thanks Tabbycat, I saw the Sissi, but I wasn't that excited about it. Not sure why - guess the artwork just didn't appeal to me as much. I have some bids in for other decks from the same seller but a lot of them end while I'm in the office so I'm not getting my hopes up too much. Mind you, I did hand my notice in on Friday so maybe I should say "what the heck"? On the other hand, I do need a decent reference from them, so I guess I'll just have to sit on my hands and pray!

I see nobody's bid on the same seller's I Taroccchi di Pier Canosa which is up by the same seller with a starting bid of £45. Anybody know if this is worth it? It looks colourful and attractive but it still doesn't grab me like the Folchis.

Gerbear  06 Mar 2004
The Pier Canosa is one of THE premium art decks. It probably will go for at least 155 pounds sterling, which is close to the retail price at Alida

Kissa  06 Mar 2004
Congrats Scorpion!!!

Well done, and a chance eBay computer is so clever, uh? ;)

The Trigono site indicates that Trigono carries the Mitologico (78 cards)

http://www.trigono.com/tarots/tarocco-mitologico-di-amerigo-folchi.htm

as well as other Folchi decks

http://www.trigono.com/tarots/italcards_publisher.htm

By the way, it's strange that the first linked page (the actual page) shows the Mitologico at 42 Euros while the second linked page (the index page) shows it at 103 Euros.

P.S. Check out the Tuscane Tarot, it's the Tarot de Marseille meets Swatch watches while visiting in Tuscany.

I agree, Scorpion - the Sissi deck didn't grab me either. It didn't sell, even at a low start bid of £30.
I have Folchi's Columbus deck - I particularly like the Coins suit, which is illustrated with produce from the New World, including tomatoes and chocolate! The deck of his that I really covet is the Ferrara one, and the Millennium, of course.
This seller sure had a fascinating collection!

I totally agree with you tabbycat. Unfortunately, the seller chose to combine the decks in sets. There were decks I wanted to bid on, but each set had at least one or two decks that I already had.
Oh well, that's the way of ebay - win some, lose some.

Thanks for that Gerbear - I might have a go at the starting price as it hasn't moved yet. Think I'll wait and see how my other bids pan out.

Also, I agree about the combining of decks: there's been a lot I would have gone for but they were in with decks I already have or ones that don't appeal to me. As it is, I'm bidding for the set which includes the Dante, although I already have the Etruria and the Marco Polo isn't one I've come across before. I probably won't chase it too hard.

To be honest, Tabbycat, I hadn't seen any Folchis at all until that incredibly expensive one nearly three weeks ago - and of course I fell in love with it (can't remember which it was - is there a Medieval Folchi?). However, having looked up the Amerigo and Mitologico I was impressed enough to go for them, although the Mitologico was the most I have ever spent on a single deck (and I used to think the Nefertari at approx £24 as a stand-alone deck was expensive!).

Yup, I will keep an eye on the Pier Canosa and take a decision nearer the time.

tabbycat  07 Mar 2004
It was the Carnival of Venice deck, Scorpion, and I haven't seen it come up on eBayUK before.
Have you noticed that 'rare' decks suddenly come out of the woodwork once someone has put one on eBay? Several of the decks that I struggled had to get hold of last year are now popping up all over the place - the PoMo, the Shakespeare and Tarot for Cats, and I can't believe how many copies of the Norse tarot have been on sale in the past few weeks (I blame that on Kiama - it's since she said she wanted one for a friend!).
As for duplicates, I don't mind getting decks I already have. It gives me something to trade! So, for all of you who don't win the mini Art Nouveau deck in this month's competition, there'll be a full sized one on the Trading Forum very shortly!

Ah - I've only just discovered the joys of ebay bidding, Tabbycat, so I'm not up on the patterns yet. So it was the Carnivale - that makes sense: it seems to get the most mentions. I must admit now that all that seller's decks have gone through I'm a bit "flat". I keep looking for something exciting to bid for and there's - well, nothing!

I have contacted the seller to see what happened to the Pier Canosa - I must have miscalculated its end date cos it was suddenly gone from my screen.

I'm off to start another gloating thread cos I've just acquired another limited edition deck from that batch today....! Good job I'm heading for another, better paid job at the end of the month!!!
