I was watching an auction on Ebay and a 1st edition Rock & Roll Tarot Deck by Chris Paradis went for $480 US dollars. That's $642 Canadian. Somebody wanted that deck real bad! Well, I did actually :( .

NICE ONE!!!
That's even more than I paid for the Amber, but what a find! Congratulations on your purchase!

Actually, I believe the post refers only to the price. Lawguy didn't get it, thus the sad face icon.

lawguy .. It's not clear whether you won or didn't win the auction. However, if you do buy at a price within reason, you probably can't lose with a first edition of that deck, I'd say. It's likely there would be copyright obstacles to further cottage editions and especially for mass-market editions of that deck. Besides, you're in the rock 'n roll business, so it makes especial sense for you to desire and acquire one.

I'm a bit confused as well if you won or not.. heh
Either way, if you did.. congratulations on winning the bit for the entire set and not one card at a time.. (grr..;))

I'm confused, too -- initially, I interpreted the message to be a rueful commentary on how much the deck cost (thus, the frowny-face icon), but maybe Imagemaker's right and it slipped through Lawguy's hands. Hmmmm!

A lawyer with an ambiguous answer? Never!
Still, much as I like to say I'd never spend over £25 or so on a deck ($40 US), there are one or two decks I might just be tempted on...

Well, he said he "was watching" an auction and "it went" . . . so I think that means it slipped away to someone else.
Please, Lawguy, help us out here! Or shall we just do a spread on this conundrum :)

teehee :D I have bought individual cards, if I go at this pace I'll have the whole deck in 4-5 years. ;)
A few months back a second edition sold on ebay for $178, I was dieing to put a bid in but there was no way I could afford it. *sigh*
only 7 hours to go on this deck!

Please, Lawguy, help us out here! Or shall we just do a spread on this conundrum :) Right on Imagemaker. Sorry for the ambiguity. When I typed I did wonder if some people would interpret my words to mean that I had won the deck. But then I thought, well, most people know me pretty well around the Forum and they can't think I'm crazy enough to spend 600 FRIGGING DOLLARS ON A TAROT DECK!!! Anyway, I do have a second edition so I don't feel that deprived :) .

Oh...well, I'm glad that you're not too broken up about it. I did remember your mentioning elsewhere that you have a copy of the Rock & Roll deck, but to a collector one is not always enough! ;)

Sorry you missed out Lawguy!
We had a Folchi on the UK ebay just under a fortnight ago which went from the £100 opening bid to the final £600 in two steps: someone was determined to have that deck. The £500 leap left me stunned - and wishing I could win the Lottery that week! Sadly it didn't happen and I'm not the proud owner of the deck in question either....

Amerigo Folchi has illustrated several decks. You can so a search for "folchi" at Tarot Garden to see them all.
I am lucky enough to have Folchi's Tarocco della Felicita (Happiness Tarot) in my collection. It cost me more than all my other decks combined!
