Jungian Tarot Deck (Wang): Cardstock: Earlier versus New Edition

The cardstock of the newly released edition is quite flimsy. What was the cardstock of the earlier edition like?

Thanks in advance for any replies!

I wish I knew.

I was extremely disappointed in the quality of this deck. Plus, the box is of poor quality too. The top ripped the first time I opened it, which has never happened to me before.

At one time I really wanted this deck badly and I've hardly used it. :|

the card stock was normal
i still have my original jung and the colurs are still vibrant and the card stock still not bent or ripped off.

i think a writing should be done to the makers to ask for a better quality for otherwise shoddy quality may still be forth coming.

My copy of the 1st edition, published by Urania, is on very substantial cardstock.

The box is worn but the cards have survived well. This is a deck I should use more often...

I just got this deck in the mail today. I ripped the box, trying to open it, too. I'm glad to see it wasn't just me, because I've never done that before, no matter how eager I was to get to the deck.

At first look, I like the colors. It will take me a while to further explore the deck. It didn't come with a LWB. Has anyone read the book that I guess I can order separately? I probably will, but I'd like some feedback...

Thanks -- Sue

I just acquired a used copy of the earlier edition Jungian deck (AG Müller). It definitely has more robust card stock than the newly-released edition which I had perused at the store but never bought.

I don't know what you're talking about. I love the physical feel of the Jungian deck. Sometimes I shuffle it just for fun.

I ordered mine from Joan Bunning last year, and she kindly
included a note advising caution when opening the box. :)

There is an original Jung - ironically, with torn box! - on eBay at the moment.

Exact same thing happened to me... ripped the top of the box the first time I opened it. I know it's only "a box", but it sort of dampened my enthusiasm for using the deck.

Same here -- even though I'd read this thread, and was prepared! The boxtop practically shredded on contact. The card stock and colors seemed fine to me, but I've never seen the original and have nothing to compare the new cards to.

I have both of Robert Wangs books for the Jungian tarot and I wish hadn't bothered. Unless you are just REALLY into the Jungian approach to the tarot, I found them rather restrictive. I'm not even sure Carl Jung himself would have approved. I spent a fortune on the original companion book, $108 on Ebay, and now I'm ready to sell it. Sigh. I got the second book, new, and it's even signed by Robert Wang, but I do not like the book. And both books are definitely meant as meditative or counseling tools when used in conjuntion with the cards--if you are into divination or the potential for it with the cards, these books don't lend themselves to this at all.

The cards in the newly released deck are flimsy, but they are SO easy on the hands. The deck is a dream to shuffle and that is nice. But I don't like the art work much, and I miss having pictoral pip cards. I rarely use the deck anymore. Maybe in the future.
