Hi all!
I just got this deck and am enchanted. I did a search and found it mentioned a couple of times, but didn't find a thread specifically discussing it.
I've seen a trend of used copies being sold at exorbitant prices, and I wanted to point out that it's still available new from the publisher at its original price.
You can see the full deck at www.merrydaytarot.com.
Aside from the wonderful images and colors and the really interesting system the deck introduces, I love some of the novel presentations of the cards, such as:
Kings are Kings of Elements or seasons(Fire, Autumn)
While Queens are named for the suit (Queen of Wands, etc.).
Knights are named for elements again (Earth Warrior, etc.)
And pages/princesses are actually elementals associated with the elements:
Earth: Centaur, Satyr
Water: Mermaid
Finally, the Aces are Dragons:
Fire Dragon, Earth Dragon, etc.
I haven't read too deeply into the book to find out why some are seasons and some are elements yet.
I know some of you have the deck. I'd love to hear your thoughts and intuitings (to coin a phrase).

I've had my eye on this one for a while - you must let us know how you get on with it.

Well, I love this deck! I use it often, and especially use it for my comparitive study. There is something about it that touches me deeply. I just ordered the book, and am anxiously waiting to delve into Ms Poole's system of numbers and to find out the meanings behind her symbolism.
It is not out of print! Don't pay more than 25 for it!
I think this deck is fantastic.

Mimi, I think I saw your copy in NY.
I have to confess. I bought it from the merrydaytarot site, then decided I wanted another copy and the book, and found someone who was selling both in new condition on ebay.
I figure it *will* be out of print someday!! :)
I can only encourage those who haven't seen it yet to check it out. There's surprisingly little commentary about it here. Maybe on Aeclectic it's another "Rock Art" tarot, and we just don't know. ;)

I just won a copy of the Merryday Tarot on e-bay - it's coming from Australia though so it'll take a couple of weeks to get to me..................:D

This is a deck that I acquired last summer but have not used very much. I received it with two creased cards, but they were very quickly replaced.
My question to you, being one who uses it often, is:
Do you find that the quality of the card stock makes it a very delicate deck? Do you find it creasing or wearing on the edges?
And yes, it is important to note that the merryday website offers the deck for $25, and there is no reason to have to pay more.
Ohh, and once you get the book and have used it, can you tell me if it is worth getting? Thanks.

I have the book. I have not used it, but have browsed through it. It contains info regarding the numbering system of the deck. I will have to look at it closer and get back to you. It looked as if it would be useful.

Well, I think I have had my deck for about a year and it is still in very good shape. I would call the cardstock adverage. Keep in mind, I am the only one shuffling this deck too, so I am extra careful!
What do you think of it Khat? For me it is always crystal clear with this deck. It just feels right. :)
I will let you know as soon as I get the book. I know Lee has it. Maybe he will see this and post some feedback. The review on Tarot Passages for the book doesn't sound too good.
Blessings,
Mimi

The book is very useful if you'd like to add a detailed and different numerology aspect to your readings. It's kind of neat and unique I think. Takes some brainpower at first, and there's a detailed sheet to fill out, soul cards and a host of others.
If the pretty pictures are enough, don't bother, but I'm glad I have the book. I'll probably try it all out one afternoon. It's good collectible-wise too I would think.

I am really concentrating on deciding which decks give me deep and clear readings. The Fey, as you saw, worked out brilliantly for me. Right now I am evaluating the Quest. I think I will make the Merryday my next. I think I was holding off because I feared it was too delicate.

Well, I just got the book today and glanced through it.
Right off the bat, I like the book. Cannot fully critique it yet, but I will say that it is not just a 'Merryday Tarot' book. It is more of a .... gosh, rich variety of knowledge concerning numerology, symbolism, stories, poems, guided meditations, exercises, and more.
In some ways, her style can be rather straight forward and uncompromising, yet at the same time she encourages you to come to your own realizations. She is not trying to convince you of her beliefs and tecniques in this book. She just writes of them as the truth.
I didn't read all of them, but I especially love her poems. I was reading them at the Jiffy Lube while waiting for my oil to get changed this morning. I started gigling and a curious little boy came over to see what it was that was amusing me. I read him the poem about Gnomes and soon had him gigling too!
Here is that one:
Gnomes by Louisa Poole
Have you ever climbed inside
A big, dark cave, just to hide?
Did you see, way down-down deep
The awesome gnomes, Whilst they did sleep?
The gnomes can dance And they can sing
But gnomes are known for remembering
The explinations for her numbering system, and her cards and a symbolism dictionary are in the book, and explained simply and nicely.
So far, I give this book a B+
I think that you will like it Khat. You have that wonderful imagination that this book seems to require.

I love this deck and book set. The numerological system has proven to be most enlightening. :)
It is an interesting and different twist to add to readings like Song Deva states, and Mimers, I also love the poetry and found the book to be rich with knowledge!
Some of the pictorial interpretations of the cards really resonated with me from the start. I love the depiction of the Queen Of Cups; quite different from most interpretations I've seen..The Universe is interesting as well and seems to capture many levels of meaning simultaneously ..

Hi Song Deva..
I'd be so interested to hear your thoughts on The Universe Card.
It is one of my archetype cards too, and it seemed so right on in this deck..are you a 21/3?
How interesting..Small Universe..:D

I just got my Merryday Tarot in the post today. I've only had time for a quick look through the cards but I'm very impressed with the artwork.
I think I'll have to save for the book now though as some of the cards may need some explanation.
I'd be interested to hear from those of you who use this deck - what are your thoughts about 2 cards in particular - The Chariot (7) which has become The Student and Temperance (14) which has become the Time Lord.
I'm going to take Mimers' lead and use the deck for comparative study for a while but I'm sure I'm going to really enjoy this deck - I'm a sucker for black borders and bright colours :)
Love
