YES! It's a blessing & a curse. lol The thing that really stinks is when you see a deck on here that you HAVE to have & then you find it's out of print. Then the obsessive searching begins! On the up side, if you can't stand the coloring of the original RWS you'll find suggestions for alternatives i.e. The Universal Waite. Welcome & Happy browsing!

Yes, it's a sickness......... :D I just succumbed to the lure of The Secret Tarot, which I had never heard of before coming here. And I did remember to use the Aeclectic link to Amazon............

YES indeed!!! When I first joined Aeclectic, I think I only had maybe 5 or 6 tarot decks and about the same number of oracle decks....and NOW I am up to around 60 decks total!!! Which is small potatoes compared to some of the other tarotholics on the forum (no names shall be mentioned, hehehe  )
I am one who never liked the original RWS...the coloring (IMO) is HIDEOUS, and I could not get past it.....
Then I discovered the Radiant RW and the Universal, which are BEAUTIFUL!!! And as of yesterday, I got my first glimpse of the Golden RW, which is also very lovely....another one for my wish list OH NO!!!! :)
See what I mean???
It never ends....but it is fun....what a BEAUTIFUL form of addiction!

You're definitely not the only one. This forum is a great place to learn about tarot; unfortunately, it often means occasionally (often? :p ) learning about decks you wouldn't otherwise have heard of.
Step 1: Accidentally read about the existence of a new deck.
Step 2: See the scans, reviews, and posts by happy owners.
Step 3: Slowly lose your willpower.
Step 4: Cave in and buy the deck.
Without Aeclectic, I would be the owner of only 4 decks: Lord of the Rings, Kalevala, Rider Waite Smith, and Medicine Woman. And I would be a lot richer ;)
However, without Aeclectic, I would not have learned about my favourite reading decks: Robin Wood, African, and of course the absolutely breathtaking World Spirit :D

I agree with all the other steps, but "slowly" lose my willpower?? Nah, happens pretty darn fast with most decks.........

The second time I came here I made a list of all the decks I wanted, I think there were about 60. I thought it was a shocking amount!
(if only I knew it was only the beginning....}) mmwhahahaha)

Hee hee, I still have this problem. I have to budget my purchases, and space them out by six months or so. Otherwise I'd be living in the street by now.

Personally, until I came here, I never knew there were so many decks. I figured there were a few but the list is staggering, even without the unpublished ones. I only ever have one deck on my wish list at any one time. But as soon as I get it (June 20th, June 20th...),another deck catches my eye. I asked the fine people of the forum about the differences between the Universal Waite and the Radiant Waite. After I had made my decision (Universal Waite), someone posted about the International Icon Tarot. My new must have.

Fortunately for my budget, I've been able to stay away from the decks. Right now, 14 decks is more than enough for me.

Someone should make a "Tarot Fund" jar like the ones that say: gambling fund, mall fund, etc. I have a large mason jar of coins that I think I'll have to cash out soon. I heard somewhere that to save a little money at a time you should throw your coin change into a jar. I know sometimes I have too many $1 bills in my wallet so maybe I'll throw a few of them in some times too. It all adds up!

Good idea! I have actually been toying with having a bit of each paycheck automatically put into a separate savings account for tarot-related things............

I had a couple of decks before I started coming here. Now, 70 some decks later... what can I say?
For me, one of the most valuable ways that Aeclectic is a resource is for small press/privately
published decks. I never would have known about some of my favorite decks -- Ator, Mountain Dream, Tarot of Timeless Truth, Tarot of Prague.
I just ordered The Simple Tarot the other day.
I play around with art and collage, and just love to see the artwork on the smaller decks.
For me, the art is a big part of my collection. I have decks that are wonderful to read with. I also have some that I wouldn't try to read with, but I thoroughly enjoy flipping through the deck, looking at the great artwork.

New decks are being produced. The are decks that did not appeal to me before but now they are drawing me.--Tao

I only had 4 decks before I joined Aeclectic, and discovered a fifth I wanted while browsing here. I went to the local metaphysical shop to see if they carried it. They didn't, and while we poured through catalogs I pointed out several of the decks I've heard mentioned quite highly here. They'd never heard of most of them. It's the having access to so many opinions and experiences that makes you aware, and then ... you want your own!
At least they're cheaper than jewelry!
