What is the oddest deck in your collection that you like? and why do you like it?
Not necessarily one that is valuable or you would read with but one you can't part .
For me it'e Enrico Prometti's Gli Arcani Del Porco. It's an odd and very dark majors only deck where the images all have to do with pigs/pork. Most are images displayed within the outline of a pig's head. It really pulls from my dark side. I think there are some scans on Tarot Garden. Bizzare deck.

Hi, Woof. Love your new avatar! For me, the oddest deck in my collection that I like is the Terrestrial -- doubled photographic images that look mysterious, murky and primitive.

since most people seem to dislike it, I'd say the oddest deck in my collection that I really love is the Tarot Erotica by Lori Walls!

The oddest deck in my collection that I like is the 'I Tarocchi dell Apocalisse', from Lo Scarebeo's D'Arte series. The art style is very wierd, in a surrealistic way. Unfortunately, I haven't found scans of it anywhere. Tarotgarden doesn't even have this deck.

Mine would be Kardz: Funny Animal Tarot. Each card was done by a different cartoon artist. I don't use the deck; it is just the right size to keep in those baseball card collector's plastic holders in a binder. I love looking at them though. A couple of favorites are Cerebus (drawn by Dave Sims) as the Hierophant, and Sam and Max (drawn by Stever Purcell) on the Hanged Man. Sam is holding Max upside-down by his feet; a notebook, a cookie, keys, etc. are falling out. Max is saying "I feel strangely at peace."

The two oddest decks that I have, and love, are the Bosch Tarot and the Ancient Enlightened Tarot "Sola-Busca". Both are weird and scary. When I showed up the Sola-Busca to my mom, she grinned because she found it so ugly. I laughed and told her that even people in this board didn't like it. She asked me to read her with it, out of curiosity, and the reading was great. The obstacle was the Three of Wands, the infamous decapitated cherubin. I looked at his swollen and spiked face, and it came right to me. My mother have been suffering the same fate as his for the last years: swollen face, headache, problems and pain in her jaws. It has caused her numerous problems at work, because of the pain. Anyway, I just think that the card was dead-on, I don't think I would have gotten that with another deck.

Less expensive than most out of print decks and not always the best art, but it looks like everyone sincerely put effort into their work and it wasn't really commercial...
Still at the Mystic Eye for about twenty dollars.

There are many ways to interpret oddity. However, I will answer this question by naming the Decameron. Very bawdy, but not in a Playboy manner. It's just raw, human eroticism at it fleshiest.
Nice change, that's why I keep it. :D

I think the oddest deck I have is the Secret Dakini Oracle, which in modern times is called the Tantric Dakini Oracle. It has elements of tarot in it. There are cards called Blow Your Mind, Scarlet Woman, Magic Carpet, Totally Bananas, The Last Laugh, Cremation Ground, Pearls Before Swine, Like a Bubble, etc.

Miss Cleo's deck...it not very well accepted or liked, but I think that some of the images have humor and some are very serious...I think it is an underrated deck and I am sort of fond of it....

This is a great thread...but of course it just makes me want more decks!!!
Sigh...
Strange and odd decks just make me happy! It would be wonderful to have a whole collection of just really bizarre tarot!
Woof...Now I so want to have a deck about pork...that is just too funny! lately I have been dreaming about the Wheel of Meat tarot...(which as far as I know...doesn't actually exist... yet! )
Tarophelia...I had no idea that the Tantric Dakini was so cool! It reminds me a bit of the Morgan Tarot...(also hippy trippy, and not actually tarot!)
Yve...nice to haer someone say something nice about the Miss Cleo deck...I don't have it, but I have been seriously thinking about getting it. It would be nice to know that it has some redeeming features besides it's shlocky collectability!
I wish I could say that I have a weird or odd deck in my collection.
although I suppose some of my Menegazzi decks...like the Smokers and the Fantastic Shoes sort of fit that category!
And tarot Maddoni is a bit strange, but I love it!

Tarotphelia: Love your new "do"! When did you change your look? Secret Dakini is weird!
Astraea: Woody is glad you like his picture. He's actually even cuter in real life! The more I see of the Terrestrial the more I want one! And I thought I had this habit under control!
Lo Scarabeo seems to have a lot of decks with weird little oddnesses to them. I need to take a good look at Tarot of the 3rd Millenium, Secrets Tarot, and Tarot of the Imagination.

Hmm some of the odd decks in my collection which I like are:
Solleone (most people see it as dark, bloody & violent but I really like it)
Barbara Walker Tarot (also dark & violent)
Tarot of the Imagination & Secret
And any & all bawdy decks - Decameron, Garden of Priapus, Tarot Erotica, Manara, Druuna, etc. I just love all that bawdiness - what can I say ;)

The oddest deck in my collection so far is the Tarot for Cats. As the title suggests, the deck is actually aimed at cats, so everything is from a very feline viewpoint :) It's actually surprisingly readable.. but maybe that's just 'cause I'm a cub :)

I found the whole thing quite surprising myself !

It was the Secret Dakini first , in 1977. Strangely futuristic for the time, I thought.
As for my avatar Woof, Centaur did it for me a few months ago.

| I don't have any that are really odd. But there's a fictional tarot that I've always wanted, if it really existed. She said she'd found the deck in a botanica in Alphabetland. It was luridly colored and the figures moved when you tipped the cards, like printed cardboard toys and kitschy postcards. The iconography was a schizoid blend of Christian saints, African deities, and pre-Bang SouthAm pop stars. The Page of Swords was Joan of Arc at the stake, holding a sword over her head. The flames leaped and Joan's head nodded up to look at heaven, down to study hell. Death is Baron Samedi, and the Seven of Wands has ninjas on it. It's such an odd deck, I wish it was real and that I could get it. Plus I've always loved those kitschy moving images. :D
Oh, the book this is from is Bone Dance, by Emma Bull. A good read, I recommend it.

I like odd decks (I am Strange2!), and my favorite unusual decks are:
Neuzeit Tarot (New Age Tarot), and the precursor deck Tarocco Tzigano, both by Walter Wegmuller. Both of these have a very hippy trippy cosmic gypsy look and feel to them.
The H.P. Lovecraft Tarot is also odd and unusual, but given the theme that is to be expected!
I also am quite fond of the Shining Tribe and Rock Art decks. Both of these are non-traditional decks with a "primitive" theme and style.

I don't own it, but the H.R. Giger always appealed to me.
And of course, the Rock N Roll, although that may not be classed as strange!

Hummm, I don't have to many "odd" decks but some of my favorites that I like that just haven't caught on are.
The Fradella Adventure tarot- I love the comic book art and there is alot of symbolism in this deck. Also if you get htis deck get the book as well, there are stories about all the characters in it that are just facinating.
The Parrott tarot- this deck has little drawings of the parrott acting out the cards that are just hilarious. He is just soooo cute.
Moonprincess Himiko Tarot - I love the vibrant colors and the wonderful artwork. Not an easy reading deck but worth it just for the stunning art.

This is one of my favorites too, but I am a comic collector, so I dont consider it odd. Some of my better readings come from this deck because I connect to it on a whimsical level. Also with this deck at goldrushgaming.com they have a book that really goes in depth with the characters and a game you can buy to use the cards with.
On topic now, my oddest deck will be the International Icon Tarot. I am asking for it for Father's Day. Which if I get it, will make it a double oddity for me. I dont like people buying me personal items. (Clothing, ritual items, decks, etc.) But she asked what I wanted by gum and I telled her.
Now if I can just figure out these metatags.

Depends on what you mean by odd and how we define tarot.
Morgans tarot is a tarot only by name - but I love it, so quirky and funny and it gives the best advice ever, I would class it as an oracle deck though.
Then some might think that Transformational tarot by Ando is odd, it sure has some odd cards in it and I love that one too:-)
Of all the odd decks I only seen on-line but want - the top one on my list is the shoe tarot:-)
And I don't even like shoes much, it is just such a funny and lighthearted deck.
The alcohol deck got a rather bad review over at tarotpassages but I still have it on my wishlist. I don't think I will like the minors but with a "lovers" like that - I am just sitting here and smiling and yeah, been there, done that.

I like my Bosch very much - although most people think it's strange and scary. Usually I use to do readings for myself, I really got found of it and I feel as if it's MY deck, you know.
hope it made sense...

I would have to say my beloved Cosmic Tribe. I never expected to trully like this deck as I am generally not attracted to digital type decks, or psychodelic type things, however as soon as I started going through the cards I fell in love with it. Although the deck is traditional in meanings the artwork makes this deck strange to me (maybe wierd is a better word *LOL*).
It has been my primary deck since the day it arrived 3 years ago, and I sincerely doubt it will ever be a deck that simply sits on my shelf ... I even have a back-up for when the pictures rub off of the one I use now *LOL*

Without a doubt, the oddest deck in my collection is the Bosch! })
It is considered by many to be "dark and disturbing".....but I very much enjoy the strangeness of it all......
Aside from the obviously "freakish" creatures and distorted human figures.....there is such an amazing amount of detail in each card....I feel that I see something new each time I look at a card!!! It is very much a dreamlike, fantasy-world experience.....
I would highly recommend the Bosch to anyone who enjoys darker decks and/or surrealistic art....you may appreciate these unusual and thought-provoking images!

I've always really liked the odd ones, the ones that look hard to read, but read well anyway.
I still use my beloved Morgans Tarot from 70-something, every now and then.
I love my silly rock art, it reads well, and is good for people who are much too serious. And it makes me laugh :D
My shining tribe always reads well and deep for me, I had to get over how it looked (I think the motherpeace is ugly...so..) but from the beginning it has been a deep well of wisdom for me.
I got a Bosch a couple of weeks ago, but i havn't tried reading with it yet..so complex. I think it's one of the ones where you can either not read it at all, or it will be clear as water. :)

Great thread! And not as easy to pick as I first thought...
I selected 2 (a couple of more are still in my head) that I think are quite odd:
Tarocco dell'Orror ("Tarot of Horror"): lots of blood, gore, etc. but done in a very tongue-in-cheek way. One of my favorite cards is the High Priestess, which shows a _large_ red-headed nurse approaching a patient (all we see is the feet) with a huge hypodermic needle -- truly 'horrible'! [the deck is available from Tarot Garden I beleive, and Alida]
But I think my _oddest_ deck has to be the Sedona Vortex Tarot. Each of the suits is represented by one of the famous energy vortexes in Sedona, AZ. It's a collage deck (my favorite kind), and what makes it odd is the mixing of photographs and very cheaply done clip art in the same card. For example, the 4 of Airport Mesa (wands) is entitled "completion". Against a background photo (of airport mesa, I think, it's in all the wands cards) is shown a cartoon man working at a desk, while a large burly monster with a tattoo reading "deadline" is tapping him on the shoulder.
The Majors are generally well done but the inconsistency of the Minors is just...odd!

I'm with Hedgecub :)
The Tarot for Cats is the most unusual deck I own. The idea of a tarot designed exclusively for cats including such wonderful spreads as The PawPrint and the Food Bowl is just so surreal!
Definitely one of my favourites :)

The Animal Wise.
I am so used to it I did not consider it odd, but I guess it is: yesterday I pulled the knight of cups, and it is a praying mantis - I thought this must be the least attractive knight of cups
There is a lot of seemingly odd choices like the komodo dragon and lots of insects, but the book explains very well why these were chosen. I appreciate that all types of animals are included, not just the beautiful or cuddly ones.

Aside from a few that others have mentioned, I really like my Marvel deck a lot - being a comic book fan from way back.
Also, the Tarocchi di Robots - not a pretty deck, but I like it.
Two decks I don't own that intrigue me, the Tarrochi del 'Orror, (on the wishlist) and the Fantastical Shoes (or whatever it's called), which always makes me chuckle when I see it, and at some point may be added to the wishlist for that reason.

My oddest deck is not really tarot, although it is called Tarot of the Tailors. I bought it a few months after I bought a new machine and started sewing again.
It doesn't really try to relate to the real tarot, in fact, it is called A Divination Device.
Example -- the Tool card -- shows an old-fashioned sewing machine. According to the LWB, the meaning is:
"This card is your relationship to all things mechanical.
"Facing right-side up, it portends good luck with any of your mechanized tools.
Facing upside down, there is much potential for mechanical disaster. Best to start your project another day."
The cards are printed in black and white, but hte backs are sort of sepia. the artwork reminds me of detailed Dover clip art.
Another favorite is The Insidious Device, which is a picture of a very tight
corset.
Odd, but fun.
