I find myself being drawn to Tarot Roots of Asia and was wondering if anyone here has and uses this deck and what your thoughts and feelings are about it.

Thanks in advance for anything shared
:D

This deck is so serene yet deep too it is easily my most spiritual deck. I like to shuffle and look at the cut card on my left with my decks just thinking and seeing what they have to say and this is the only deck i have that talks back when i do this. I'm not a very grounded person either but this deck is so spiritual but earthy somehow too like it has a real solid feel to me that i'm not explaining well but...also i the animal connection with this deck is not the major focus but strongly felt so if the animals speak to you you will like it. The art alone is divine so i say it is a must have!

firemaiden  24 May 2004
I love this deck, Starsongs. It was one of the the first on my wish list. I am particularly fond of the two of cups and the star.

Jewel-ry  24 May 2004
Yes I do have this deck and it is quite special. My only criticism is that it has quite dark artwork. That said the artwork is beautifully done.

I really like the association of Elephants to the pentacle suit. Elephants are so earthy aren't they?

There are many subtle images in it for instance in the Justice card, her eyes become scales in the reflection! The Empress, nursing the baby animals with the care of the world on her shoulders. Great images.

You need to look for the little clues in this deck, but its lovely.

J.

Dear Scorpio, Firemaiden and Jewel-ry

Thanks so very much for your thoughtful comments :D

It looks like this is a must have deck. The animals do speak to me, Jewelry and Scorpio, and was one of the selling points on this deck.

Most definitely can see the connection of Elephants and Pentacles, Fish and Cups, Birds and Swords and Big Cats to Wands

Firemaiden, I also love the Star and 2 of Cups!! :) And remember thinking too that the 6 of cups, Ace of Pentacles, the Hermit, Justice and Death all were so striking and felt connected with meanings immediately.

Jewel-ry, had a few thoughts about the darkness of the art like you, but also find it lovely..

Scorpio..Many thanks for your comments about the spiritual nature yet also groundedness of this deck. It has been a challenge of mine to ground too, and I sensed the same thing as you do, I think, that can be hard to put into words. You've put the concept across quite well..

OK..I'm convinced ;)

I can't wait to see the rest of the cards and to work with them.
Again, thank you all for your wonderful responses
:D

I love this deck but I must confess I have yet to read with it. It is beautiful on so many levels. I am anxious to hear your experiences Starsongs.

Yes, I have this deck too and I think the art work is very beautiful, there are many hidden things within it which seem to jump out at you just when you need them. I've used it alot for myself because it's a very spiritual deck. The LWB is actually quite thick and gives alot of information about in-depth meditation.

Get it ... go on... you know you want to....... })

LMAO...})

You bet I do...The deed is done, Moonbow!!

I called Amethyst books here locally (coz I like to support them too!). They didn't have the deck in stock, but have ordered it for me!

Thanks for sharing your experience with Tarot Roots of Asia. The LWB sounds wonderful too!

I appreciate all the comments on how artistic this deck is.I regard it as a masterpiece of serenely meditative art through the tarot sequence. But it's subtle, not dramatic. The more I look into an arcanum, the more details arise, like a sunrise landscape. The hierophant is amazing--- Mind in bloom above a desolate, mindless world,a golden flowering of the Mind. And the Lovers--it's all in the color.I have not read with this deck. It's too much of an art gallery for that. But I might use it for card of the day.The chakra spread,in the little white book, matches the deck's character.Does anyone understand Temperance?I mean in this deck.

Hi Dan,

Thanks for your thoughts. The deck is beautiful on many levels for sure! I'll be back to share about my own experiences after I receive it. I hope you have the opportunity soon to get acquainted with it too!

Thank you, Frank! It sounds wonderful! I love the way you've described the Hierophant; Wow! Thanks for sharing...

I haven't seen the Temperance Card yet myself, but will look when I've received the deck..Getting more excited with each persons posting!

OK, Jewel-ry runs upstairs to check out Temperance ... (talk amongst yourselves for a moment) ...

Yep, I think I have it Frank.

She pours the water into the ocean, at the same time as a tornado or cyclone (not too good on weather!) sucks the water back into the dark clouds. Its the water cycle really! Its Temperance as we know it but on a much grander scale. Wow! thats amazing.

:)

firemaiden  25 May 2004
Wow, cool description Jewel-ry. Geez, I'd never paid attention to Temperance before. Oh, no! don't make me unpack my deck, please!

So you bit the bullet Starsongs? Okay, I want a report when it comes on how you like each card.

I'm in the same boat. It is so beautiful, and so deep, that I am finding it hard to get myself into a position to read with this deck, that will do it justice. I will, of course, but somehow, it demands more too, and I don't quite feel ready, just yet.

firemaiden  25 May 2004
I've used it in a couple readings. It worked for me when I used it in the position of "indigo" on the Lunalafey's rainbow reading. I used it once for a dream reading, and the images were fortuitously perfect. I think it can be used well for intuitive image readings. But it is a bit abstract, and requires perhaps more patence with self.

That is a cool description of Temperance, Jewel-ry. I see now where it is a card shown here at Aeclectic for this deck! The water cycle on a larger scale..WOW!

Yes, Firemaiden, I bit the bullet..lol..and I'd better not bite any more for awhile :D. Will definitely give you a report when it arrives..for each card.. I can see how it would be great for an 'indigo' position in a reading, and for dream readings too...

It will be interesting to see how this deck works out for readings, Happiness! Thanks for your thoughts...

I confess I cannot resist you all any longer. :D

First it was dearest Starsongs, then I read all your comments, here, after seeing an online sample of some of the deck's cards.

Roots of Asia takes my breath away!

Here I was thinking that I had found a little part of Nirvana in the Tao Oracle when this comes along. :)

I am ordering the deck today...

starsongs  26 May 2004
Namaste, how cool!! :D

The Tao Oracle is also beautiful.

Here are some links on Roots of Asia for anyone interested

Oh dear

This is another deck that I haven't had out for a while - I did alot with it once and now I've seen these links I will need to go back to it again.

I have always loved art with hidden and unknown qualities - my favourite artist is Japanese and she paints in a similar way which is what first attracted me to the deck. It's such a peaceful deck with so much to see in the cards, very intuitive and great for meditation.

13thFaeChylde  26 May 2004
Oh! I didn't know the artist was Thai ~ now I want it really bad!

dolphingirl  26 May 2004
The Roots of Asia has been on my wish list for quite some time :) Hearing all of you ohhh and ahh is really driving me nuts :)

I was wondering if there are any dolphins in the deck that anyone knows about?

Moonbow*  26 May 2004
Hi dolphingirl

The cups have a mixture of fish, turtles and yes one dolphin on the Page but it's not the main 'character'. Generally I would say if there are dolphins amongst the fish they don't stand out especially.

Moonbow, who is this favorite Japanese artist? I would love to see her work! :D

I enjoyed your thoughts on the cards..thanks!

Moonbow*  28 May 2004
Starsongs, I have PM'd you with her details

Frank Hall  28 May 2004
Thanks Jewel-ry.It really is the water cycle!I'm looking into it again, with your looking to guide me.It truly is amazing in its artistic atmosphere(sorry about the pun.)Seriously, you see the blue clouds above and the water ripples below and the waterfall from above to below-- with inner glow as it downstreams. The deva or angel holds out her/his arm, perhaps guiding the flow. It's curved like a dolphin leaping left over the water.Yes,this is temperance in a cosmic-balance way--original and inspiring--what an artistic success for the Tarot! I have some artistic friends who argue that Tarot is too cartoonish.Sometimes that works, anyway. But I show them this,Golden Tarot, Crystal, Scapini, and New Century, and they're amazed.Tarot's changing.

Moonbow*  28 May 2004
Temperance

The two cups are Heaven and Earth and she is the conduit. She is rising from the water and her arms form the cup from within the clouds so that she can aim and control the mixing. There is action and movement in the 'heaven' cup but after it flows it settles into a pool and gently ripples outwards to where it is a calm and smooth harmony.

Frank, I loved what you said about the dolphin. I see that too now

starsongs  30 May 2004
Roots of Asia arrived yesterday. It truly is a beautiful deck. I'm so glad I asked about it and that all of you shared your thoughts with me...

I took out Temperance and looked at it first while reading the insightful comments shared here on that card... and saw the dolphin too. How cool! :D

Then continued looking through the deck, coming across the 6 of Swords. What an awesome visual interpretation!

I love how the boat is painted green, aligned with the Sun, and is moving through the air, not across the water. It really suggests rising above in order to gain a different perspective.

The green seems to symbolize healing of the emotions (and possibly opening the Heart Chakra) through this different mental perspective...

Love also how the boat seems to be emerging from the swirling clouds..and into the clearing...as the swords are way below...there's the detachment

Does anyone have any thoughts on this card? Would anyone be interested in a Roots of Asia study group?

Heres the report on the first card, Firemaiden...hehehe...77 more to go :D :D

Until June 28, 2004, I will be here every day except weekends and holidays. After that, I'll be around whenever I can (every 10 days or so) until the end of August. I'm thinking, in September, of subscribing.

I look forward to reading your thoughts. :) I tried calling US Games today to know if the cards had been sent already, forgetting that's it's Memorial Day and a holiday in the US.

Can't wait to get these lovely cards, especially after your praising comments about this deck, dear Starsongs...

Hi Moonbow

Thank you so much for the info. Well now it has mooved up in the want list :)

Namaste  04 Jun 2004
IT HAS ARRIVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and it is beautiful indeed! :D

I opened it and thought What sensitivity... then the images began to grow on me and the Sun, the Ace of Swords (which is becoming, in ways I still don't understand, synonymous with me, since it seems to appear, even with other decks, at every turn in my readings) started whispering to me, and I haven't even cracked the LWB open... LOL

It's a shame it's Friday and I am away from here on weekends. :(

Starsongs, if you can hear me... You don't know how I look forward to studying this deck with you and with all those who will be joining us.

We are, indeed, the fortunate possessors of great beauty and insight!

starsongs  04 Jun 2004
