I just bought the Celtic Tarot deck...its the one with all the celtic knotwork all over it. I love it! But I am thinking about the energy of it. The first time I looked through the entire deck was at this book store....the energy of the deck was terrible, and I couldn't stand the coloring of the cards! So I had crossed it off my list. Then today, I was in this one shop in town, the store has just recently opened up. They had a copy of the deck there....a opened but never used deck. I looked through the cards and loved them, and the energy was beautiful. I am confused cuz it was the same deck I had hated before! I acctualyl went back to the store today to buy them. I needed them for some reason...aside from their gorgeous artwork!....it's strange.
I was talking with a friend of mine about decks....He uses only two, and feels that having more decks would be a waste of money. I felt bad for buying another deck, because I in a way felt like my other cards would end up feeling left out (kinda like the older sibling reason to a new baby). I have 6 decks now, not alot to other people I know. Some people I know have around 60! I dont know where my feeling is coming from, perhaps I am just being silly. But I do find that certain decks will work with some people and not with others. Like when I am doing readings for others, I like to let them choose the deck they want me to read with. Or I'll deside which one wants to speak to them. I was also thinking that maybe having like 60 cards could get excessive....but my wishlist is huge!
LOL........perhaps I am just being silly.
Does anyone else use that Celtic Deck, btw?

I don't use the celtic deck cuz I don't have it (but it's on my wishlist!) But I understand how you fell about having too many, yet at the same time not enough decks. I have bought decks simply for the artwork, as I'm sure others here have, and looked through them, but never actually read with them. I even have one deck that is still all wrapped up in the shrink wrap (I just don't have the time right now to digest a whole new deck) and I want more decks!!
I think it's good that you try to use all of the decks that you have as long as you are getting something from all of them. However, there is no point in having a deck that you don't connect with, so if your friend feels that he wouldn't connect with any other decks, he should stick to what works for him!! Just like you should stick to what works for you...so if you have twelve decks that speak to you, use them. They all have something to say if you will listen!

I meant to post a reply to you but I hit the wrong button. I just wanted to let you know to go with your feelings. A deck has its own personality. Sometimes a deck may seems flat to you but on another day you are more receptive to it. Go with your feelings.--Tao

I very much agree with this. I have had this happen with my Victoria Regina. At times, I feel very much connected to it, but at other times, I feel disconnected. It is most strange! I call it my 'moody' deck. Hehe.
Willow Tree, I too have felt a particular dislike for a deck, and then ended up buying it and loving it. For instance, I used to find the Marseille deck to be vomit-inducing. However, earlier this year, I ordered the Fournier Marseille and I totally love it. I am intrigued as to what you say about the energy of the Celtic? Was the energy associated with the deck negative? Perhaps it had been handled by many numerous persons, and the energies had accumulated. I am glad that you managed to find a copy that you felt better connected to and at ease with!
I have ten decks in all and I understand what you mean with regards to buying new decks. I sometimes feel that I have too many decks to appreciate them all fully... and I only have TEN decks! :)

I have the Celtic Tarot but haven't really used it for readings, because I prefer illustrated pips. I have used it for meditation excercises however, and the art is beautiful!

Wow! Only two decks and not wanting to buy more? That is a foreign idea to me! heeheehee Has your friend ever browsed the tarot deck sections here on Aeclectic? I don't know how anyone could and NOT want to get more! But, if they connect to those two and don't feel a draw to another deck, that works for them. :D
I have several new decks but I've found that I learn a little bit more about tarot in general by studying the different cards specifically. Seeing how the cards are different and how they are the same, if that makes any sense!

Each deck has something different to offer us.
I love to read books and have never felt the need to stop reading at just two. To me that is like saying that all mysteries, sci fi, romance (or whatever you like to read) are all the same.
Tarot decks are the same way. One may open you up to a new way of looking at a card in a romantic way and another my make you think more about the mysteries of a image. Each deck has something different and worthwhile to say. Sometimes it is a challange to figure out its message lol but that is also part of the fun.
If a deck calls to you at a certain time maybe it is trying to help you at this time and you either were not ready for the message before or had no need of it at that time. :)

I also have the Celtic tarot, I especially love the majors, the minors. I find more difficult to read. I know from reading the book though that the minors are not just a number of something but that there is also subtle symbolism in the way the knots and swirls are drawn. This will require some more study, and I am one of those people with more decks than time :D
I know I will learn something from this deck though. And I just love Celtic artwork.
