I'm intrigued with this deck, and found it at Tarot Garden.
If you have it, could you tell me your thoughts on it?

I want to order it, but am attempting to practice self-control.
We'll see how that goes ;)

Hi Faery,

(are you the former Momof3girls?)

There's a previous long thread about this deck: http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?threadid=11525&highlight=swedish

as well as another one where jema translated ALL the keywords appearing on the cards. Easily available when you do a research in "titles only" using "swedish" as a keyword.

I love this deck, the artwork, the witty spirit, the numerous animals and the very nordic pagan feel of it.
But... I've never read with it. I think Galadrial uses or used to use it a lot. Galadrial... where art thou???

Hopes that help!

Thanks, Kissa :)

I'm the former She Who Watches.
Thanks for the link!
(goes off to read more about witches from Sweden)

This has been on my wishlist for ages. I don't buy many decks but I really feel as though this one would have something new to add. The cards look so detailed and I love the use of animals.

Love

It is a neat deck, and a really cheap one too, at least here in sweden where it cost a lot less then other decks. Unfortunatly it is a bit tricky to get hold of for people not in scandinavia.
One of the best ways is to simply write to the publisher

http://www.fischer-co.se/
The deck has ISBN #: 91-7054-947-8

I think in the past a few people got together and bought a few decks and shipped them to one adress and then from there onwards to the others. Shipping is a problem.

I sometimes have this one up for trade but the last time no one wanted it so i kept the deck for myself this time :-)

WolfSpirit  17 Jun 2004
If you want to practice self-control don't ask me about the swedish witch :D
I really recommend this deck - it is a great deck for reading, it follows more the thoth meanings than rws but it also has a mind all of its own. Also, it is not as sweet as it looks - the deck can be harsh and honest if necessary. But, it has so many funny details, it will probably also put a smile on your face no matter what. It is a deck with a great sense of humour.

13thFaeChylde  17 Jun 2004
So, I pretty much know I'm going to order it.
Myself talked me into it :)

Should I order from Tarot Garden, since they have it in stock...even though it's $35?
Or should I order from the Swedish site?
And if I do order it from the Swedish site, won't the shipping costs cancel out the lower price of the deck?

I've never ordered from overseas before

WolfSpirit  17 Jun 2004
I ordered the deck from Sweden and live in the Netherlands. So the deck did not have to travel that very far, but even I was surprised at how expensive the shipping was - almost the same price as the deck. I got the deck very quickly though, and I think they also use a safe way of shipping which makes it so expensive. If you live in U.S., looks like it will not be much more expensive to order at TG, and it will be quicker and safe...

janstar17  17 Jun 2004
And if you order it from The Tarot Garden via the AT link, your purchase helps support the forum!!

I, too, have the deck and find it amazing though I do not read with it yet. IMHO, it has a very warm pagan feel to it and uses animals to emphasize the 'spirit' of the card really well. I bought mine at TG...Jeannette is the best!

Kissa  17 Jun 2004
Hi again,

i remember trying to order the deck from the publisher and the shipping costs to the very next counrty (Finland) were desperately high. I had already given up on that deck until... I got mine from jema, in a wonderful trade.

So two options left for you: either you tease jema with something she would really like and she will finally break and send you her deck in a trade..... OR, order from Tarot Garden, lots cheaper and safer.

:-)

LOL at Kissa :D

Girl, a month is nothing!
Last year I found a deck that I had to have, and the only economical way to get it was to wait till March of this year!

I waited FIVE MONTHS!!!!
But it was so worth it :)

My company only pays us once a month, so it is my destiny to wait till July (insert big dramatic sigh)

hedgecub  17 Jun 2004
Fae, I'm amazed and very impressed! Do you think you could teach me some self control too? Please?

Perhaps I speak too soon, but enjoy the Swedish Witch tarot! I saw a copy of it actually in the Akateeminen Kirjakauppa in Helsinki city centre, but it was quite worn because so many people had looked through it. I guess it must be quite popular there too :D

galadrial  21 Jun 2004
Hi all. I'm mostly away from the forum this summer, so am just getting to this thread.
You're quite right Kissa, I still love reading with this deck:-) In fact, I did two Celtic Cross readings for how the summer would go, one for me, one for my son, using this deck and as usual they were crystal clear and had a bit of humor. The near future card for my son was the delightful Devil lounging about, and sure enough, my son (who is 17) is taking advantage of the time off to indulge in consul games, food, friends and sleep.
This deck has one of my favorite Death cards. The surprised fish with the crown on his head always makes me laugh- obviously not spiritually prepared, his mouth is agape that Death has disrupted the plans of the King Of The Pond! Other favorites are the Hemit (I love Cerebus), the Sun, the Ace of Cups, Alchemy (Temperance) and and King of Swords (I want a dragon like that:-)
Nothing fluffy bunny about this deck, reading wise. It's razor sharp and will let you know what's what; it can cut an issue to the bone with finesse. And it's sense of humor isn't mean, but makes me smile.
BTW 13thFaeChylde, I think you are getting a good deal through Tarot Garden. I ordered from Saxo.com to California and my total was around $42.00.

13thFaeChylde  21 Jun 2004
(looks at calendar....looks at tarot garden site...looks at calendar)

something tells me the next month is going to go by
sooooo s l o w.

dolphingirl  21 Jun 2004
I had received this deck a while ago in a trade and just last week felt the urge to pull it out again and take a look at it and I really like the artwork on it. It is definitely one of those decks that makes you smile. I also get really curious about some of the symbology on some of the cards and wish that there was a book to go along with it. Will have to do a reading with it sometime soon.

WolfSpirit  21 Jun 2004
Yes, I know, it is frustrating the companion book is only in Swedish. Maybe if the deck becomes a giant hit it will be translated some time.
I think we talked about this in an earlier thread - I think some of the details carry meaning and some are added by the artist to make it more playful/humorous. Ah well, maybe it is a challenge to use our own fantasy on this one ?

13thFaeChylde  21 Jun 2004
Oh, does the book come with the deck?

I found a Swedish to English translation site:
http://www.tranexp.com:2000/Translate/result.shtml

jema  21 Jun 2004
hehe, that translation site is hilarious. I am afraid if won't help you actually translate much at all though. Swedish is a rather complex langues and the translator can't read åäö. But thanks for the link:-)

If there are any special features in the cards anyone wants help with perhaps me and genna can help you out.
