A Changed Tarot Deck

When I was in my local bookstore, I saw this minipack of Tarot, so I decided to buy it.

So, it's good and all, except I found out the guy that did this particular set decided to switch the numbers for Strength and Justice. So Justice is VIII and Strength is XI.

Does that make a difference when using it? Or should the deck still play okay?

The cards still have the same meaning, they just show up at different times in the fools journey.

Since there is no difference in the cards meanings there shouldn't be any problems with the readings. :o)

Hi Light1986,

The tarot deck you bought is called Tarot Nova. It wasn't the creator of this deck that decided to switch the numbering. Originally, in the Tarot de Marseille ordering, 'la Justice' (Justice) was card VIII, and 'la Force' (Strength) was card XI.

Waite was the one that changed the numbering of Justice to 11 and Strength to 8 in his Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot. Since then, many other decks have copied this numbering.

So the creator of the Tarot Nova is going with the numbering of the cards before Waite decided to change it.

If you're interested, you can read all about the Tarot de Marseille in the History and Iconography Forums. In the Using Tarot Cards Forum are a lot of threads about the different numbering, you can look them up here.

Thank you both. I wasn't sure exactly how it would change my readings (n00b), and I'm glad it really doesn't factor in.

So it is called the "Tarot Nova", huh? Thanks, I had no idea it even had a name.
