Got the Mass market version of the Gilded!!!!

Thread originally posted on the Aeclectic Tarot Forum on 29 Jul 2004, and now archived in the Forum Library.

Yes!! This is the Mass Market Deck we have all been drooling over.

Nice presentation box~ it opens from the top like a fancy tennis shoe box.
I never had a tarot set open this way before. Good design.

Book~ I don't want to go into too much detail and spoil it for everyone.
It is presented as a beginner book.
With exercises to take you through the various stages of doing a reading.
Room is left on the page to write your own thoughts on the Majors.
Each card is described and then a very basic meaning is given, but no reversal meanings.
Five spreads in the back of book the last one is my Daily Spread (it was so surreal to see it in print.)
The Artists Notes by Ciro were fun to read.

Cards~ beautiful card stock with a matte finish.
For all of you out there who hate the heavy plastic coating on some decks this will be a dream.
They shuffle like butter.
No horrible smell.
They smell a little like my acrylic paints but you have to really get your nose into them to smell it.
The art is gorgeous.
The color is very true to the Special edition colors.
There is no fade and the printers did a great job in keeping the cards looking bright and crisp.
I compared many of the cards to my limited edition and if not for the thickness of the cards I couldn't really tell the difference.
The two extra cards have spreads printed on them one is the Celtic Cross and the other is my Daily Spread.
That was a big surprise! I didn't expect that.

There is also a cardboard box inside the main box that you can decorate yourself to keep your cards in.

Extra Surprise~There is a pretty little black organdy tarot bag included with each set! Now that's class!
The cards fit in it perfectly.

Very, very nice presentation.
Congratulations Ciro!!!!
A job well done Llewellyn.
I think your guys are really going to love this one.....:D

So hurry up and get yours so you can tell me what you think! :)

cundi  29 Jul 2004
It's not yet available at yesasia.com, so I've to wait.........

Tarot Sparrow  30 Jul 2004
*Steals lark's deck*

Okay that's mean. You can have it back.

Did you order the special edition deck? I'm on the pre-order list on Tarot Garden, but it won't come for a while.

Majecot  30 Jul 2004
Lark- is this the SE deck that you won, or do you already have a mass produced deck ( as an extra)???

I wonder how different those will be to the Special Edition decks in looks and feel.

I have mine on pre-order at Tarot Garden, I cannot wait for it to come in!!!

Centaur  30 Jul 2004
Lark, I am soooooooooo jealous. Hehehe. It sounds great! And congratulations again on having your spread used in the book. :D

Alta  30 Jul 2004
Jeanette said the mass market version would be out within a week or so. I am pretty sure lark already had the SE and was comparing to mass market. Remember she won that contest with her spread and got both the SE and an early copy of the mass market. And btw I use that spread often btw lark, it is a truly excellent, to the point, spread.

Aun  30 Jul 2004
Hi Lark Congratulations!

I am also waiting on my copy of the Gilded, and I'm looking forward to check out your spread.

Savoyali  30 Jul 2004
Ah, I can't wait! It sounds truly gorgeous...

This is so cool. The very first post I ever read on the AT forums was the one where you announced your spread had been chosen, lark! :D And now it's already in print...so cool.

lark  30 Jul 2004
Good morning everyone.
Yes this is the MASS MARKET GILDED! YIPPEE!!!!
That I am talking about above.
So you should all be getting yours very soon.
Llewellyn sent me one as a thank you for having my spread in the book.
I must have gotten the first one out of the new shipment.
I was expecting a copy but I was surprised it came so soon.

Majecot~ I am comparing the print quality above to the Special Edition which I have to....

Marion~thank you for your kind words about the spread. I still use it every single day myself.

Dead Star ~get on your computer and order this deck you N..E..E..D it! And keep your fingers to yourself. :D
(Oh sorry I see you have it on pre order...oh well, good girl!)

Centaur~thank you! And no need to be jealous anymore you can get your very own deck now. I can't wait to hear what you think.

cundi~ Welcome! Keep checking they'll get them in soon.

Aun~ Let us know when you get it, and what you think.

And the little black tarot bag that comes with it is just too cute.

babyd  30 Jul 2004

Hi Savoyali so nice to hear from you again.
That was way back in October and I had just become a new member myself.
I was so shy about telling everyone I had won a contest related to tarot.
But everyone was so nice.

My spread is in the New Worlds Cataloge by Llewellyn this month.
The July /August issue.
So they must have coordinated that to time with the release of the deck.

OakDragon  30 Jul 2004
That is so wonderful, lark! It sounds like it's going to be great! Can't wait to receive my copy.

Cerulean  30 Jul 2004
Very cool and thanks for letting us all know.

I'm curious' at Oakdragon's response to the mass market version.

Hope everyone is as pleased as the early receivers!

I've heard over time that the Legends deck--the first version with book--is wonderful in terms of goodies that came in the first edition book and the card printing. So maybe the best time to get a Llewellyn deck is when it first comes out.

And Lee's going to do an expanded book, as well.

Very nice to know.

Regards,

Cerulean

OakDragon  30 Jul 2004
I just got an email from TG saying that the Gilded shipment is in, so I sent off my payment for priority mail shipping! :D

blackroseivy  30 Jul 2004
Now what? How soon will Amazon have them again, I wonder? How about Tarot Garden? (one of the NON-pre-orders...) :(

Alta  31 Jul 2004
Check with tarotgarden. I would think Jeannette and Dan ordered a few extras.

blackroseivy  31 Jul 2004
Waitin' to hear back from 'em!

Jeannette  31 Jul 2004
Whew! You folks are really keeping me busy! :D

I think I've finally managed to reply to all the inquiries I've received regarding the Gilded. Here's where we're at, at Tarot Garden:

To anyone who paid for their preordered copy of the Gilded set before 4 p.m. U.S. CDT Friday: your tarot has been shipped!

To anyone who paid for their preordered copy after 4 p.m. U.S. CDT, or who pays before approximately 2 p.m. U.S. CDT this coming Monday: your deck will be shipped Monday afternoon.

To anyone else who didn't preorder but wants a copy from us: we do still have a few extras unspoken for. I learned my lesson with a, um, "previous high-demand new release" (thanks, Kat! ;)), and when I saw how preorders were going for the Gilded, I "upped" my own preorder with a hefty extra chunk. Still, it's possible I under-ordered (we do put copies the new releases on eBay ASAP, trying to catch the early wave, since we're frequently the first to do so), so anyone who wants to purchase a copy through us should probably contact me ASAP. A PM is fine, or a message directed to any of our @tarotgarden.com addresses or our tarotgarden@yahoo.com address. I include the latter "emergency" address because apparently, our new spam filters have been a little... unforgiving... with a few established and valued customers, and I've had a few reports of bouncebacks. Until that problem is fixed, I don't want a select few of you thinking that I don't want to talk to you anymore!!! :*

Thanks again to everyone for their orders and support! And congratulations to Ciro for such a marvelous piece of work. May sales continue this strong for you throughout the year and beyond!

September Pixie  31 Jul 2004
Thanks for all the updates Jeannette :D I cannot wait to get my little hands on them!!!!

Are the mass-market decks like the Vargo (Gothic Tarot) deck? or is it thicker cardstock?

13thFaeChylde  31 Jul 2004
Mine's on the way from Tarot Garden also!!!

Should have it by Thursday :D

Tarot Sparrow  31 Jul 2004
Ohh you changed your thread title didn't you? Sneaky ;)

I have the mass market version on the way now from Tarot Garden! I can't wait!

Majecot  01 Aug 2004
Woo Hoo!!!
I had pre-ordered Gilded (from work) and I did not get an email saying it came in.. I was starting to stree out just a wee bit, then it dawned on me.. duh, my email from Jeannette was sitting in my email at work, (it went to the junk email folder no less). Thankfully I can check it from home :D. And now I am a happy little camper because MY copy of gilded is all paid for and will be on it's happy little way to me :D:D:D:D

fyreflye  01 Aug 2004
Tarot Garden is offering it on eBay for a Buy It Now of $25; an easy way to get one if you haven't pre-ordered. I already bought one set and they've just relisted another: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5511490787

First of all, before I give comparison info in reply to this question, I have to say that it's always puzzled me why people have commented about the Gothic Tarot cardstock being so "thin." In my experience, the Gothic cardstock is no thinner than that of your average massmarket release. That said, it is possible that there is a difference in cardstock between editions. The Tarot Garden library copy -- which is, of course, what I'm using for comparison purposes -- is from the very first printing. But I know from my correspondence with Christine at Monolith Graphics that they had become so tired of collation screwups with their original printer that the second (and as far as I know, subsequent) printing(s) were handled by a different company. So maybe the later edition(s) use thinner cardstock than the first one.

That said, in comparing the Gilded Tarot to our library copy of the Gothic, I have to unscientifically report that the Gilded cardstock seems thinner to me. But I do not know the exact weights of the materials used, so you're relying on my subjective analysis if you make a purchase decision based on what I've related here.

September Pixie  01 Aug 2004
Jeannette,

My Gothic Tarot and Froud Oracle's cardstock are about the same both being slightly thinner than the US Games Universal Tarot... I don't know if that helps, but they are both the thinnest in my collection as of yet.

September Pixie  01 Aug 2004
Here's a link to TG's ebay auctions :) They have another Gilded ;)

YAY!!!! Mine will be in the mail on Monday :D

Phantom Goddess  01 Aug 2004
Ohhh I can't wait for this deck. I didn't pre order it so I'll have to get it from Amazon.com. I am dying to see these cards up close and personal.

Cerulean  01 Aug 2004
The packaging on the Buddha Tarot by Robert Place includes--like the Gilded set that you described:

Nice box with a pop up lid--like the fancy tennis shoes
-mesh bag (black)
-booklet with meanings, three spreads, details, about 56 pages that are not numbered
-a box that you can decorate
-deck

I was impressed that the box set; the fact the cards felt thick with bright colors and similar to Alchemical's good quality. The Buddha Tarot's card size is slightly longer than a typical Lo Scarabeo mass market edition, so it might translate to me as more 'sturdy'. So I found the deck and packaging great and then bought the book separately. Is the Gilded the same size as the Buddha Tarot or slightly shorter, like the Lo Scarabeo deck?

So this sounds like Gilded Tarot's packaging as well-which is very nice to hear. Is the bag a pretty gold or the dramatic black...or some other color?

I was afraid of the flimsy and faded printing that haunted my various copies of the Legend. It might be the colors chosen for the painting of the Legend in the mid-1990's just didn't reproduce well.

Thanks for all reports on this deck. And I don't think that it
spoils anything to hear about spreads, notes, or ideas from previews--it's not like a movie for me, where the first unfolding view is a surprise. It's more like a sharing of a favorite book, which to me comes as a rich experience that is personal no matter what other say. I think of this forum as people sharing their views and enchanted conversation, kind of cozy, where everything you can say is like...well, a comfy and friendly guide.

So Lark, congradulations on your wonderful spread that made for obtaining two great copies--you have one for special occasions and one for fun sharing and travel. I don't remember if I ever said anything about that before.

Anyone else have any news? My copy will take some time to come...

Regards,

Cerulean Mari

lark  01 Aug 2004
Thank you Mari,
I just measured the cards they are 2 3/4" x 4 5/8".
So a little shorter and wider than a Lo Scarabeo deck.
The little mesh bag is black.
I don't have the Buddha Tarot so I can't compare the card stock but the card stock isn't quite as thick as a Lo Scarabeo card stock.
Yet I don't feel any sense of caution in using and shuffling them.
Although a little thicker card stock wouldn't be a bad idea
I guess we'll have to wait and see how well they wear over time.

I brought them to the Spirit Fair today and everyone was OHHHing and AHHHing over them.
They all want a copy and my autograph.....they're so silly :)

It sounds like the Buddha tarot is exactly the same presentation.

Just to say that if people are having a hard time getting a copy from other places try Llewellyn I'm sure they have many copies available. www.llewellyn.com

The price from Llewellyn is US $24.95 CAN $33.95

Phantom Goddess  02 Aug 2004
Amazon or the publisher aren't selling them yet

Gerbear  02 Aug 2004
The publisher is Llewellyn, and they have it in stock and are selling them. Just call and order. Also, Tarot Garden has them, and is listing them on ebay. You can get it there or contact them directly.

I ordered mine on Saturday from Jeannette, and mine should be here by Thursday!! :D

galadrielsphial  02 Aug 2004
I just checked Amazon.com, and they are selling the Gilded for $16.97! So I think I will be heading back there to place my order...hehehehehe. :)

13thFaeChylde  02 Aug 2004
*taps foot uncontrollably*

Is it Thursday yet???
Or even Wednesday?

I might have to call in on Thursday, just so I can be there the instant it arrives.

Asher  02 Aug 2004
About 15 minutes ago, in fact!

I can't believe I actually opened the bills and threw out the junk mail _before_ ripping into the box. And I still can't believe I'm typing this, and have not yet unwrapped the cards! (I have glanced through the book, though).

Very nice packaging, like that of the Buddha Tarot. A black organdy bag is included in the set, along with the white, color-or-decorate it yourself cardboard box that is part and parcel of every Llwellyn set.

Now, I simply must go and play with my deck (hope my limited edition deck doesn't get jealous!!! But I do look at it nearly every day)

Asher

OakDragon  02 Aug 2004
I just got my "Mini Gilded" (the mass market Gilded) in the mail, too! I'm so excited! I just opened it. I noticed something interesting, for you Special Edition owners... notice how both decks fit together in the larger box?! Cool! More thoughts to come!

OakDragon  02 Aug 2004
Next interesting insight... the font used for the card titles on the Gilded site, the special edition, and the regular edition are each slightly different... three different fonts!

OakDragon  02 Aug 2004
The borders on the two editions are different slightly, too. The mass market version's borders look more metallic, more 3D and shiny.

OakDragon  02 Aug 2004
The SE (special edition) cards all seem to have a slightly redder tinge, than the MM (mass market) ones. Usually it doesn't seem to make much difference, but the Empress in the MM seems to have very slightly reddish brown hair, whereas the SE version has definitely red hair. I like the red hair much better personally. ;)

OakDragon  02 Aug 2004

Obvious design change! The Lovers card on the site and in the SE deck has stars "raining down" over the lovers from above (don't know how else to describe it). The MM version adds two vertical shafts of light shining down between them also!

OakDragon  02 Aug 2004
and another one! The dress and the jewelry of the woman in the Strength card are quite different in the MM version than either the website or the SE. Interesting!

OakDragon  02 Aug 2004
Curiouser and curiouser! My MM and SE decks both have flames coming out of the cup on the Temperance card, unlike the one on the website!

OakDragon  02 Aug 2004
The star in The Star has five points on the website and my SE and has 8 points on the MM version! There are also big stars showing through the two small orbs at the top of the pedestal on the MM that don't appear on the other two.

OakDragon  02 Aug 2004
Hmmmm.... there's a beetle on the bush in the 9 of Wands in both the SE and the MM (but not on the website). I thought that was one of the different cards in my deck. Somehow, the SE is starting to feel a little less "special". :(

OakDragon  02 Aug 2004
There's a mouse in the grass on the 4 of Cups on the MM, but not my SE or the website!

OakDragon  02 Aug 2004
Oh, well. Sorry to get carried away. You get the idea. I don't mean to bore y'all.

Cerulean  02 Aug 2004
Just think, OakDragon et al, of all the SE uniqueness that was built in just for your deck!

My mass market will not feel less special for it'll be my one and only...and you with two will be deliciously comparing for the hidden surprises...and have yet a third checkpoint on the website.

The very cool thing about all this is by the time Lee Bursten's book comes out, you'll have even more in-depth feeling for your deck and such connections will make for an even more enchanting read. I look forward to hearing about everyone's ideas....

Regards,

Cerulean Mari

cirom  02 Aug 2004
Dear Oak dragon, I truly hope the various differences you and other LE owners find between the decks and images on my web site will nor be interpreted as flaws or errors, and diminish your satisfaction with either. The creation of this deck covered a long period of time. It was obviously neceassary and fair to put a basic visual reference of the cards on my web site as soon as possible despite the risk of piracy. To have expected people to risk a significant amount of money on a hand made deck without such a reference would have been absurd.
Having said that it was always my intention to revisit each facet of the project as indeed I do with all my illustrations, namely constant tweaking, a change of colour or position here an extra butterfly there. Just can't help it (drives my wife nuts). To be honest if it hadn't been for the printing deadline I would probably still be changing things. Therefore while some differences between the LE and mass version i.e. the borders were deliberate, others such as fonts were requests by Llewellyn to allow for language variations etc, others changes reflect different time periods involved and my "tweaking" habit :-)

I saw some of the things you've noticed and I was just enjoying reading your discoveries. ;)
Tomorrow when it is light out I want to lay all the cards out on the big dinning room table and make my comparisons with my SE.

Well admitting it is half the battle.
But I must say you do some very beautiful "tweaking!"

Yes I have to admit it but yes I am. In fact I'm an honorary member of "Tweakers R Us" Have you heard of them?

lunakasha  02 Aug 2004
Well, I have not ordered my mass-market deck yet, so I am unable to compare it with the Limited Edition deck.....but I am sure it will be nice to see the differences, and the "tweaks" that make each of them unique....

Thanks again, Ciro, for creating such an incredibly beautiful and intuitive deck....I am really enjoying reading with the Gilded!!!

But I've also heard that most of them never make it to the meetings.
They're to busy with just that one more "tweak."

Not to worry, Ciro. It was a bit of a surprise at first, that's all. They are both special in their own ways and I'm very happy with both decks. They are magnificent!

Now we can look forward to a new deck and book with LB and CM involved.

I was impressed with the book. It was written with both the neophyte and the experienced reader. The organization is by the Majors, Suits, and Courts. This way one is able to see the development or the story in each grouping. The black organdy bag is a nice twist. It is my first bag made from this material. The cards are a convenient size. The cards are slick and tend to slide easily. That will change with use. The backs of the cards have mystical jeweled design. The jewels are in the frames of each card. I really would have liked them without the frames. That is just personal taste. The card that stands out with me is Strength. She is moving with a male lion on a chained leash. She is moving away from the dawn. She is looking skyward as though she is following a star or the moon. From the position of her hair and the blurred background, she is moving swiftly. Traditionally, is holding the mouth of the lion open while standing still. The other majors have distinct differences from the tradional RW designs. The cards have a definite mystical feel--Tao

Asher  04 Aug 2004
...so have been playing with it ever since (and will be taking it on vacation tomorrow).

I am not impressed with the book...sigh. I would much rather have seen Ciro give us his thoughts, his take on his _own_ deck.
(I had the same feeling about the Cosmic Tribe, even though I like that book very much!) I love to read what the deck creator had in mind when coming up with the images.

This book is written for the neophyte, and I found precious little in it for the intermediate or advanced reader. The exercises are, IMHO, not very interesting or insightful (much better ones can be found in Llwellyn's _Tarot for Self-Discovery_). The section on spreads is decent, however, and I do like the Daily Spread.

As always, your mileage may vary.

I'll let this be a nice companion when I return. Going back to work after a vacation, it'll be nice to have something so lovely. I guess the book is geared to help beginners and proivde a small framework to get into the deck. Maybe more a friendly workbook.

I'm certain that there will be great reviews--I like the words used such as 'mystical' to describe the paintings. They have that pretty otherworldly air, reminding me of my favorite 'Midsummer Nights Dream' scene from the Norwicki version of Shakesperean Tarot.

This is a deck that probably looks gorgeous in the large size. I took advantage of the ordering discount to get a strange in-print deck that turns out to have very large cards--I was thinking it would have been nice to see Gilded in larger format form.

I'll enjoy reading what further insights people discover.

Regards,

Cerulean

they cancelled my order for this deck at Amazon because they did not have it in stock. Grrrrrrrrrr. I had to go to Barnes and Noble and order it I paid I think like 2 bucks more but it is worth it. I can't wait to get this deck.

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy...got the Gilded in the mail yesterday though I didn't see it until this morning as I was running out the door for work! Now I have something to look forward to tonight though!!! Very exciting...can't wait to look through it and get a sense of it as a reading deck. :-)

I got mine two days ago :D and I've been getting acquainted with it since........ WOW - Ciro you are a clever man...

The colours are fantastic, they are clear and, well, just gorgeous! I have some favourite cards already:

Magician - WOW! I just love the 'diamond ring' above his head (the sun and moon eclipse) fantastic idea.

Lovers - Well, what can I say .... the earth is moving for them! :D

Hermit - I love the colours in this card and the narrow, jagged pathway........

Death - This is my favourite EVER death card.

Temperance - She is just beautiful, I love the way her hair and dress are flowing and the contrast of blue and yellow in this card

Devil - :D ;)

In the minors I think its the blue/green colours that seem to attract me, so:

Two of Swords and Eight of Swords (expecially the two)

I loose myself in this deck............... thank you Ciro :)

dreamy Moonbow*

Edited because - I meant to say (and it really was not an afterthought, but one of the reasons I wanted to post - I just forgot) that:

Larky......... you clever girl....... your spread is brilliant and to have it in the book and on a card of your very own, must make you soooo thrilled. I have been doing the different coloured pen thing since you posted it a few months ago in a different thread, I thought it was a good idea then and still do.

I just saw this post.
I'm so glad my pen trick is working well for you and that you like the spread.
Whenever I use the deck and see that spread card I still get a happy little feeling!
It must be so gratifying to actually create a deck or write a book and then see it in print...

I've used my Gilded at the Fair and it has become a big favorite.
If I give people a choice of decks they always pick it.
They are so stunning front and back how can they help it!
Reading with them is just a joy.
I know I'm gushing but the more I use this deck the more I love it.

What is this mysterious pen trick that everyone seems to be talking about?

I got my beautiful deck yesterday .

Although I had looked briefly through the cards, did a couple of spreads, and could not stop admiring each and every card I am yet to spend more time with it.

I particularly like the accompanying book; it is very 'friendly' and I feel that it speaks to me personally. There is nothing threatening or intimidating in either the book or the deck.

In fact I feel as if I am going to take a safe, but very exciting journey soon.

Thank you Ciro and Barbara.

I am a bit embarrassed :| :| that it took me so long to purchase this once it was released... especially since I have been pining for it since the day Lark first posted the link when she won the tarot spread contest....

But... (sigh) it did!

Today I saw it behind the glass doors of the cabinet at Borders and I realized it was time.... and I am not disappointed. The colors really are amazing... and I love all the little animal critters on the cards...

I am in the process of moving, so I won't really be able to devote adequate time to this deck until September... but I am so looking forward to it.

Thanks again, Ciro for a beautiful set!

I love this deck as I have previously said but that leaves me with a question.

Does anyone know if the artist is planning on producing anymore tarot decks in the future ?

Asher  21 Aug 2004
This deck has become quite the favorite around these parts. Today, 5 people brought it to our weekly Tarot Circle (2 of whom had just purchased it before coming to the group and were unwrapping it during the meeting!)

It's just beautiful and reads so well!

Yes he is sassygirl3124.
He should have something up on his web site very soon about it.

great I can't wait to see it.

I am really enjoying my Gilded Tarot deck. It is filled with beautiful imagery and colors. I have connected well with it and have been getting to "know" it over the past week.

ONE thing I am curious about: Does anyone else see the face of George W. Bush in the Fool? It is a dead wringer for him. How about some insight Cirom?

Thanks for a beautiful deck, Cirom.
Blessings,
Indigo Rose :)

Interesting observation, and I have to admit you're not the only one to ask, but no its not based on or meant to be George W. Bush. As they say in the movie credits, any resemblence is just a coincidence.

Glad you're enjoying the deck.

Thea Lynx  22 Aug 2004
I found I could not resist - I have ordered the mass market version of the Gilded -

I love my special edition - finally stopped being afraid of damaging the cards long enough to work with it a couple of weeks ago & it was wonderful!!! But, then again, how could it not be?

I imagine that once I have this new deck, this will be the one that I will mercilessly shuffle (sometimes my mind wonders as I shuffle & I find I have been a bit heavy handed with my cards) and then pull the corresponding cards from my special edition deck - this is going to be such fun!!!

The longer I have my deck, the more pleased I am with it. If only the rest of life could be this way!

I love the deck. :) I just bought it a week ago, at Borders. My only issue with it is the 6 of pentacles. I've always thought of this as a positive card of giving and generousity. But this card is depicted as someone giving but carelessly with no heart or thought behind it. So now if I get this card in a reading, what am I to think? That the person/situation isnt giving with heart and only because they feel obligated? Because that seems to be the meaning behind this deck's card. Any feedback? I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks for answering the question about the Fool card.

Thank you also for lending your incredible talent to making a deck that communicates so richly. By the way, I am especially impressed with the 10 of Swords card. This lends such a new dimension to it's original meaning.

Thanks Again.
Blessings,
Indigo Rose :)

I have to say I am very impressed with this deck. The artwork and colors are exquisite, and the book is an excellent tool for newbies to tarot. A lot of insight and thought went into this deck/book set, and it really provides newbies with a new option to the RWS as a starer deck. It is also great for those with Tarot experience that like RWS type decks.

Congratulations Ciro, I think you accomplished what you set out to do, and I for one am grateful to all the hardwork you put in, and for your research into what tarot enthusiasts like. In the book you mentioned that your research told you that tarot enthusiasts use tarot for divination and for collecting, I would like to add that there are some of us who also like to use the decks for self exploration (several good books with excersises on this), for story telling, and also to explore them in an academic manner.

If you every decide to take on another venture like this one, it would be great to see a new Toth based deck!

Thank you all for the feedback and comments to date.
Jewel, the point you made regarding self exploration etc is very valid one, and something that became apparent when reviewing the various posts from the Gilded Daily readings and study groups started by Lunakasha. I had previously underestimated this issue, and have specifically aimed to address it in the new project that I started some months ago. Hopefully by tomorrow I will have updated my web site with image previews and information.

Oh goodie!! More images to drool over for months and months building our anticipation of actually holding the real thing in our hands to a fevered pitch!! I'm camping out to be one of the first to catch a glimpse...

Ciro thank you so much for addressing this. Tarot is very versatile, allowing something for everyone that is interested in tarot in general even if not for divination purposes. I think we are starting to see more variety in uses in the uses of tarot, and the more decks that acknowledge this the more marketable they will become.

If you are interested in exploring more about the different uses of tarot, and the types of exercises some of us enjoy diong with tarot, a couple of books I would suggest browsing through include:

- Tarot for Self Discovery by Nina Lee Barden
- Tarot Shadow Work (Using the dark symbols to heal) by Christine Jette

Thanks again for your reply, and for such an excellent new deck and book.

I just received my "back up " Gilded deck. So, now I have 2. Just got this one from Amazon for (ummmm) $16 plus free shipping because I also ordered the book Tarot for all Seasons. It's a rather unique book on using the Tarot for anyone into the earth religions.....wicca.....etc. I plan to try some of the spreads they recommend for the sabbats. It's a good book worth checking out.

Lianne  27 Aug 2004
I have both the limited edition and the trade edition of this deck, and I think it truly is beautiful and captures so many of the essences of the cards so well, but I just can't seem to read with it. Very frustrating, since I'd love to make this a primary reading deck. Oh well, I can still take it out and meditate on the images.

sunflowr  28 Aug 2004
why do you think you can't read with it?

cirom  01 Sep 2004
I don't know which would be the most appropriate forum thread for this but, to all my fellow aeclectic members in the south east of the US, and especially here in Florida. Good luck over the next few days with Hurricane Francis, it looks like its going to be nasty. Don't worry about the wedding albums, birth certificates, family jewels or even your mother in law if she lives with you, just make sure you keep your copy of the Gilded close and well protected :-)
No, seriously, stay safe everyone.
