I recently aquired the New Century Tarot.

Very interesting cards! :) Not sure how well I'll get to read with them though. I'm just getting to know them so maybe I will use them in comparitive readings for awhile 1st. And maybe a study group here?
My question is.. for those who own this deck.. what's up with the Seven of Swords? I don't understand this card. I don't see stealing or betrayal or deception going on here. The only thing the LWB says is that she is pretending to be drowning even though she isnt. But what's up with the bird of hope on her head??? I hope someone can shed light on this so that this card makes more sense. Thanks. :)

This is truly a beautiful work of art ,as well as a Tarot deck, with its sequence of symbols. The artist blends patches of color in original ways.I'm not certain of the artist's intention with the Seven of Swords, but it seems to be a soul in negative self-perception'"drowning" in self-condemnation,possibly from misdeeds or from melancholic exaggeration. The two swords attacking from above may be her own troubled soul, and the tapestry of meshed swords above her are her mental prison.Still, her imagination can release her from self-torment--hope springs eternal.I hope this might spark your own reflections.

Congrats on your new New Century!
I love the bright artwork on this deck and Eichelmann's attention to symbolism. I've had it for a few months now, but also haven't spent much time with it due to a little confusion reading the cards. Seems to have lots of potential.
And just made the commitment last nite to study this deck seriously and use it as my primary deck for awhile to get better acquainted with it!
So... Yes! to a study group!
About the 7 Swords, I've read this one as the problem of illusion, as if the suffering is primarily in the mind. As Frank Hall discusses, the bird is a phoenix, I think, so it represent the hope of reconstruction. What I like about this card (and the deck as a whole) is the more balanced symbolism of positive and negative.
Anyone else for study? :) :)

When I first got this deck I paused to wonder, what if
this was my first, even my one and only deck ever...?
And really, I think it would be fine. Interesting, but fine.
