I had a marvelous reading today from a psychic who has been doing psychic work since he was 11...He really was excellent. He said his use of the cards is a tool, that he has learned them solely through intuition and that he is also a medium. Anyhow, he used a RW clone, that was borderless, had larger images, darkish rich colors. I have searched through our list of decks and I can't find it. I actually like it and have seen the pictures here in the past, but still can't find it.
Help!

Strangely I thought there was color inserts of the majors in the book...it's called Tarot Celebrations.
Joan Cole has a list of reviews and links to full deck scans.

I'm curious to hear what you think. Every once in awhile I think it would be a nice and different deck.

Morgan Greer is quite special terri,
I have it and for a while, used it all the time. We had some really good threads going on here for a little while. I think Sulis and Emily both used it quite a lot too!
I have a book which is illustrated with it (also Rider Waite and Aquarian) by Echols, Mueller and Thomson called Spiritual Tarot which is an interesting read too!
The colours are almost autumnal and the Queen of Swords is just wonderful.
Do look up some of the old threads if you are thinking of buying it, they were quite enlightening as I recall.

The absence of borders on the Morgan-Greer definitely gives a wonderful energy and vigour to the cards. More decks should have borderless cards.

And especially the book, _Tarot Celebrations_, written by Geraldine Ameral, one of my first Tarot teachers! She was writing the book while teaching my class, and field tested some of the spreads and exercises on us. Geraldine is an amazingly gifted teacher, and does some remarkable work with the Osho Zen as well.
Try out some of the rituals in _TC_ with the Morgan Greer cards (there is a color insert depicting the Majors. It's quite a beautiful book (both to read and experience).

It's a beautiful deck; the richness of the colors make it particularly attractive. It was one of the decks I bought in the late 80's, and I still have it. My big problem with the deck, as with so many others, is that the people portrayed in it are too pretty. No plain people, let alone ugly people, need apply. :joke:
Won't somebody ever make an Ugly People Tarot?

Thanks everyone! I really loved the deck when he started pulling cards today. In the first 7 cards of a CC, he pulled my Zodiac Card, my hidden teacher card and the Page of Swords (my ME card)...it was a fine reading!
I am already getting pricing info from tgarden....
Thanks for the book recommendation too, Asher...This deck could become my RW reading choice...I have been using the Radiant, but really like this.
Rusty, I agree with you about the borderless deck. It's lovely...

I do not own the Morgan-Greer yet, but have been seriously tempted MANY times to grab one!!! :D
I really LOVE the deep, rich colors and the borderless, "open" feeling I get when looking at them....very tempting indeed!!!

The Morgan-Greer is one of three decks that I use the most. The colors lift me up. And I really, really like the Tarot Celebrations book.
I don't know if I want an ugly people tarot--we're all beautiful inside and I like seeing an outer appearance to match :)

I am definitely buying it. Having a good psychic/reader use it for my reading yesterday was quite an experience. I have not felt that way when I pull any of my more traditional decks out.
I do love the Gilded Tarot for a whole host of different reasons, but Morgan Greer could definitely be the main RW for me.
Any relation to Mary Greer?
My friend just asked me that?

I have had the MG for a long time and recently, read some good reviews and threads at AT. It seems that hardly anybody has a bad word to say about it. The colours are great; the lack of borders mean they flow between each other beautifully; it feels so deep and feels lovely to use. I definitely recommend it and it is so nice that you got interested in it in that way. I think it is agood one for yourself and also for others to be read with.
Look forward to hearing your impressions when you get it; it's a real 'oldy, but goody', and one that never seems to lose poularity.
Best wishes
Yaboot

Ummm...well, I expect a lot of ruckus for saying this, but, the people in the Cosmic Tribe aren't particularly gorgeous...and well, some of them are a little ugly...but not all of them....
It is just normal people posing for the shots....it might be what you are looking for!

I bought this deck very early on in my deck buying career and have almost never used it. But this thread has inspired me to pull it out and give it a whirl. Thanks!

I know, the Cosmic Tribe is a nice deck, and I might get it someday; it is a photographic deck, and thus hard to keep from getting at least a few plain people in it. I was thinking more of a modern painted/drawn deck, where the artist has a choice about what sort of people to draw. In most circumstances, they draw the beautiful people.

The Morgan Greer is an amazing deck - I've been using it for months now and still haven't got bored with it, I don't think I've found a spread or a question that its not suitable for.
The colours are rich without being garish, and it adds an element to the cards that other decks don't have because on the Morgan Greer the colours do actually mean something. The Morgan Greer wasn't only based on the Rider Waite, it was also a based on the teachings of Paul Foster Case.
I like that the faces are so clear, you can even see eye colour on many of the cards, the Devil card is put in to shock - it wears off after a few readings lol, also they are just the right size and no borders mean you get a full image on the card and nothing to detract, just numbers on the minors on the top of the card. Some of the images don't mirror the Rider Waite at all, the Sun for example.
Its a deck that is very suitable for a beginner but also people who have been reading for a while - my tarot studies has gone forward in leaps and bounds since my Morgan Greer found me.
I'm very happy to have been joined by the 'one' at long last. :)

I hope to have the deck soon.
Thanks, Lee. I didn't think Mary and Morgan were connected.
Will check out Paul Foster Case, Emily.
I have one shot at getting it tomorrow at our local meta shop I patronize....If not in stock, I will order ...

Hi Terry,
Glad you found a RWS deck you like.
I love the Robin Wood deck and I remember when I first saw it, here on Aeclectic in fact. It was the Death card that grabbed me.
Now that I've been looking at other decks and really, since I've been using the Whimsical (and this cracks me up because NO ONE apparently uses the Whimiscal; at least no one laughs at me for using it-to my face anyway) I've noticed my tastes are changing.
Of course you know I'm considering the Marseilles, but you already have a TdM and now are working toward a RWS. The decks that I'm looking at and some of them I'm buying are the Fey, The Fairy Tarot, Songs for the Journey Home, World Spirit and Wheel of Change. Of these, right now, I'm most excited about World Spirit. I understand it is a cross between the Thoth and the RWS. I just love the woodcut look, and I'm wondering if anyone uses it. I also got a great deal on the Wheel of Change and can't wait to get it.
I find it interesting to look at the list of Study Groups. It sort of shows the taste of people here on the forum. You have hit a real nerve, and are getting some great responses about the Morgan-Greer. Good luck with it. I'll line up for a reading from you once you get comfy with it or for you to practice with!
Take care!

Thanks, Bob...saved site and already ordered PFCase's book on the Tarot, used at Amazon.com
Thanks, elf....I have several RW decks...have been using Radiant since day 1, but think I will really like Morgan Greer. I have perused hundreds of decks. For some reason, only a few have hit me in the solar plexus...so far, the TdM (Hadar and seconding, Camoin)
and then the Gilded Tarot, the Radiant to always have a traditional RW (I also have the Universal...) and now, Morgan Greer.
So, I can't wait to get it. It was its use in a reading for me that turned me on to it...
There are certainly many beautiful decks I have seen that I probably will never purchase. At my stage in life, I need to really zero in on those that resonate with me.

If only I could zero in on fewer decks that resonate with me I'd be saving some money right now!
LOL!
It's funny, because I'm not sure what I'm looking for, but I somehow feel that there is a deck for me out there....One I can really snuggle up to!
Right now, still looking...

That's a good point, elf. What was so interesting about "discovering the Morgan Greer" for me was the fact that someone used it for me in a live reading. In other readings, I've basically seen the universal RW's mostly.
I think that's why this one had the impact. The reading was live and, I found the reader to be quite good.

Hi tmgrl2,
I think the Morgan Greer gets you like that - I first saw this deck 15 months before I bought it. I remember searching for it on Amazon and it either wasn't in stock or the wait was too long and I forgot completely about it. Instead I bought decks that I really didn't connect with and kept going back to the Universal waite.
Then late last year, I think (it does seem like I've had this deck forever) - I saw a programme on tarot and for a few minutes a lady did a reading, I was on my knee's in front of the tv but there was no need I recognised the deck right off - the Morgan Greer. Before the day was out I had ordered it and as soon as i held the deck I knew it was special.
Hope you get your Morgan Greer soon :)

I agree, Emily!
Today, my friend and I went to our local Meta shop and there on a dusty back shelf was ONE Morgan-Greer.
Now I found out that Bill Greer did the illustrations under the direction of Lloyd Morgan...I thought that it was a single name. I did order a used copy of Case's book on the Tarot.

Hi tmgrl2,
There is a book for the Morgan Greer too, its called The Book of Tarot by Susan Gerulskis-Estes. The only problem with this book is that its only 94 pages long so is a small book compared with other deck books.
It does give good information on the cards though and is the one you get when you buy the book/deck set. I like this book but wish it was about 4 times as long. :)

Thanks, Emily! I was able to get the book at Amazon. com for $1.82. Put it in my cart to wait till I have a bigger order. On the used books, it often costs more to ship than to buy the book, but some good deals.
Thank you!
I also glanced at the LWB. First one that looks practical.

I had a reading once from a woman who refered to herself as the "witch at the corner of town".
she read for me using Tarot of the Old Path. She told me not to buy it as i wasn't ready for it yet, and when my sister (my younger sister, the sister I really, really, really, adore, love, appreciate) travelled to England she bought it for me. She had no idea I'd had a reading with it! Funny how things happen.
Now, I've been using it again, and I really appreciate it in a whole new way.....

Aaaah, the Morgan Greer,
I do so love it when someone starts a thread about one of my two favorite decks :)
Like Emily I almost bought this deck when I first became interested in tarot but didn't, I got it about 18 months later after seeing it on TV (I think Emily and I may have watched the same programme as it was around the same time).
I love this deck - I haven't got a bad thing to say about it - the colours are beautiful; bright but not garish, the cards are just the right size, it shuffles like a dream, it has an aged look which I really like - gives it the feel of being an old classic. It has a wonderful, retro 70's feel to it. I even like the back design which I know puts some people off.
I hope you love your deck Terri, I have a feeling that you will :D
Oh and I DARE you not to fall in love with the Queen Of Swords :D
Love
Sulis xx

What's really odd, is that I have looked at som many decks in our store and online and never "noticed" it till Saturday.
Re LWB...in general, it has a more positive take on more cards than some other RWS based interpretations...but Three of Swords is still Sorrow...I don't use LWB's. I just read them through once to "review" them. I'm going to get the books mentioned in above threads...
It's good to get all of this feedback. I would have loved the deck, anyhow, but it's nice to hear others feel same way about it. It's definitely in my small group of reading decks.
