The smell of a brand new deck???
I received my WorldTree Tarot today. I was so excited when I went to the mail box and found it there that I practically skipped back up the drive.
But I somhow manage to keep myself form opening them until now. I had company, and I was being selfish, I did not want to share my new deck just yet.
Now that I have them in my hands, I see they are even more virbant and beautiful than I first thought. And altho I did see some resemblance to Quest initially, (or visa versa- since I found these on the web first) now that I have them I really do not see it. Astra definately has a style of her own!
So I am sitting here at work, hoping for a quiet nite so I can peruse my lovely new deck.

Yes, there's nothing like the smell of a new deck, especially new non-metallic decks, e.g., the Liber T. It's too bad that that smell fades away. Is there some way to extend the 'new smell' life?
But I find that the new decks sometimes feel greasy and slippery, from the varnish I guess, including the Lo Scarabeo. The US Games Gareth Knight Tarot deck I just acquired is extremely greasy and slippery.

I love the new scent of cards. Some keep the scent longer than others. My World Tree Tarot is in the mail. I can hardly wait! --Tao

mmmmmmm... my deck didn't start to smell like "just" new cards until I'd had it for several days; the store where I bought it always smells like incense (they have lots on display, and I suspect they burn a stick of nag champa after hours or something), so the cards had that sweet smell for days, from sitting in the store for however long they did before they got to me.
It added something, I think - I'm an incense fan, so the smell takes me back to meditative moments. :)
speaking of smell... i have bread to make :D

Wouldn't it be great if there was a "new deck' smell in a spray like they have "new car" smell?

I love the new deck, hate the new smell. My Thoth deck had a stench of paper, ink and a little like glue. So I took about 30 minutes last night to go through each card, and let an incense cleanse it of its nasty scent.

No!!!
I am with TaranRavenFrost on this one...new decks smell all chemically...it's icky, and hard to get rid of.
I prefer decks that are broken in...a little worn...where the smell of ink and plastic lamination has disappeared.

I usually like the new deck smell, unless it is REALLY strong and chemically, like the Radiant RW for example....I kept it in a sealed contained with sage for a couple of weeks to dilute the smell....
I also love the "feel" of a new deck....it is so pristine, and love knowing that I am the first to touch it when it first comes out of the package....all mine!!! :P
But then again....I also love a nice, well-shuffled deck too, and especially having received some used decks as gifts from some of my dear friends here...having that person's energy in the deck, and their history of having used it, makes it very special to me! :D
OK....so what I am really saying here is....I LOVE CARDS!!!! })

:) Luna lol, you said exactly what I was going to say. :D :D New ones, old ones, in-between ones. Like to touch them, look at them, read with them and generally have them around.
Sometimes I do find the 'new deck' smell a bit strong. Seems to vary.

I agree with Lunakasha. The Radiant Rider-Waite by US Games is the first new deck I've encountered that has an unpleasant odor. I guess that US Games was experimenting with a new coating. I hope it failed, because the deck smelled horrible and the cards were hard to manipulate until I used talcum powder.

I like the smell of incense from the store.
The one bookstore I buy from, all you can smell is the incense. At first it is strong but it's o.k. I don't use it but this way is o.k.

My Eniol Gavat was already used when I got it; had strong smell of incense and still has; I think that is the main reason why I like it. I have asked this before, but does anyone work with that? Have had mixed responses due to lack of colour, but I do quite like it; not completely sure why though.
