Anyone got it? I have one on hold and will pick it up on Friday. The deck intrigues me and I think it's such an original idea :)

Love to hear any comments!

TA -

Is this the RWS version viewed from the rear angle?

If so, I have it and I find it mildly interesting - a good study deck and a novelty, especially for those of us who know the RWS by heart.

However, there is no way I could ever read with this deck. I have owned it for several months and very rarely pull it out.

Where ya been, Dan!?
Welcome back. Say hi to Laura.

TA, I have it too, and there are several threads on it...as Tarot of the New Vision.

A search will enlighten you immensely, I'm sure ...many people weighed in.

I think it's really neat, but it's way down on the food chain of decks I'm playing with right now.

I have this deck- I have no RW -
I have not read with it much, but find it rather amusing. The few readings I did with it where also very interesting in the way they speak. I found it to work real well for a "behind the scene" look at an issue.

I have it, but, sorry, consider it no more than a novelty. I only have it because I did a strange trade with catlin last year and for that reason my copy is called Vice Versa tarot: same deck though (sidebar, why do several decks have different names if purchased in Europe??)
I have never tried to read with it, so as luna has had a good experience maybe there is some value. Personally I have just looked through it a couple of times. A certain amount of humour in it though. :)

I bought this when it came out last summer and although I don't use it much to read with I find it really beautiful and intriguing. It's become an essential partner to my Rider Waite decks and I wouldn't be without it.

For the artwork itself, the use of colour is really clever - In spirit it's true to the Original Rider Waite but you really get a feel of the image having expanded - like the difference between an old and faded colour photo and a new crisp one. Both have their own special qualities.

Overall, this deck helps me to stand inside the Rider Waite images. It's one of those rare instances where you are actually afforded a glimpse of what's there if you peer around the corner.

Thanks everyone for your responses!

I don't think I had it in my to use it as a reading deck, but at the same time I did wonder (having used RWS for 15 years) if it would give a different out look to the reading...

One never knows.

I do have to say that curiousity has got the cat for me re: this deck :)

I received my New Vision deck some time ago and just seriously worked it this past week. I was very surprised. I had thought of it as a novelty deck, figuring that it would read no worse, but certainly no better than other decks I consider "fluff". What a surprise. One day in particular practically forshadowed an event that happened that day - and it wasn't the way I wanted the result to come so this was definitely a case of NOT reading what I wanted to happen into the cards.

Mostly, the RWS interpretations hold, but the added dimension of the new point of view really added a lot - especially in the card that gave me the not-so-wonderful news. It actually gave me time to prepare and reflect on why things had gone as they had and what I could do to start over. Having a new direction to go certainly kept me from developing a case of the "poor me"s.

I wish it had a book as a lot of the symbolism is new due to the 180 degree turn and I would like to know what the artist had in mind for these things.

i have this deck and I think its great for reading!!

I got it as a novelty and was really surprised to find it sharp accurate, direct and right on. It's especially good when the "seeker" is asking the same old question for the 10th time....it really gives a different point of view, one that was perhaps always there, but never noticed. Wonderfull for "stuck" people and situations.

I don't think it's really an 180' turn from the Waite deck, it's sometimes that, but more often just enough difference to get you really thinking. Like, why does the King of Cups have all this fishing gear and tools behind his throne? Is that an Ark that he's looking at? The deck, because of it's differences gives a lot of depth to the imagery we all know pretty much by heart.

And it is very interesting to compare the cards from the 2 decks side by side, or re-do a reading done with one again with the other. Combined, they are an amazing amount of information. :) Enjoy your new deck!!

I have had this deck for awhile. I use it with expanded readings. Sometime it gives a better explanation of another reading. I consider it to be helpful.--Tao

This I thought would be great with the two decks :D

I just got this deck as a gift last night (mignon version), and it really blows me away. TA, now that you've had your deck for a while, what do you think of it?

I don't consider this deck just a novelty--it seems like it would add some interesting angles to the reading. Now I'm going to have to buy a regular RWS in order to do some side-by-side spreads! :D I have a couple of friends who are involved in local politics, I would think that this would be a great deck to use for them--what's really happening behind the scenes?

I ended up expanding mine, by getting a thumbnail-size RSW deck, and glueing the matching card on to the New Vision. Instant Comparison! It makes for a very thick deck, but I put the RSW cards in different positions on the NV, so it wouldn't all be in one great clump. It does shuffle, with patience.

A little different from "trimming" the deck, as so many people are getting into lately...stilll, a customazation. :) For me, it expands it's usefullness, especially with some sitters who seem to need to see to believe.

It's easier than hanging them from a tree by their heels..........a la the Hanged Man......:D

Stregaverde  22 Feb 2005
LOL! Especially now that we've seen the angry mob that is facing the Hanged Man!

LS has their Universal Tarot in a mignon version, I'm going to probably pick that up this week--didn't plan on adding THAT to my collection this month, but I really want to have decks of the same size in comparison. I like your idea of the miniature RWS, but it sounds a bit ungainly. Still, not a bad idea...I'm thinking that one could do a spread with the New Vision, then pull out the corresponding RWS cards to show "what is visible/what is hidden", or something of that nature.

Oooh, the possibilities! :)

I thought of getting a same size RSW, and glueing then together back-to-back, and have not completely discarded the idea. I think it would shuffle smoothly if laminated, and it would be interesting which version would come up, in a given position. For comparison, just flip over!

It's a terrible thing, what an idle mind can come up with......:D :D :D

Actually Magpie and others, if you are going to experiment, I wondered if you also had the 1993 U.S. Games "Original" Rider Waite Smith with the green instead of blue skies and somewhat thick lines.

Because of it's period feel of elderly illustrations and grainy coloring, it is a closer color match to the Lo Scarabeo New Vision in terms of backgrounds...and so the reversal feel comes out stronger when I look at both decks. The "Original" has the blue and white "Lilies & Roses" back, a prettier one than the plaid ones usually associated with the U.S. Games produced Riders.

I think Chris might have originally posted elsewhere of liking the green sky, which reminded me when I was looking for a 'closer' color match to the New Vision. I did an experient last night with my previously unused Vision and recently rediscovered my U.S. Games "Original"...side by side, yes, I got the 'turnabout' feel and being inside the cards.

This thread had the most interesting ideas, so I posted them here. I may take these decks on a family trip this weekend!

Regards,

Cerulean
