These are fun!
I've sometimes thought about a pop-up or pull the tabs deck - but can you imagine the cost? (plus no good for readings really). Still, one day maybe something animated like this will be possible, when screens are tiny and inexpensive and flat - can you imagine?

That's a cool site, Diana! This is another one that has animated cards, but it isn't as nice as the one you linked to...
Tarot cards that move like the paintings and photos in the Harry Potter-books, that would be wonderful!

spoonbender: I also got to thinking about Harry Potter kind of moving cards when I saw that site.
That criptkabbale web-site I often land up on when I'm looking for information. I can't make head or tail of it most of the time. I wonder who it is that owns that web-site. A most interesting person, I would think.

Haha.. Harry Potter was exactly what I was thinking of... maybe someday such a thing will happen. ;)

That would rock - I want to teach Tarot at Hogwart's, and maybe they would have decks that move there!
(I'm in the early stages of looking at both sites but I'm a little worried about what the Lovers must be doing...):|
edited to say: Aww, nothing dirty!
The figures on Le Diable are doing the macarena...now I've seen everything...:D

I'm sure the Harry Potter tarot, when it comes out, will have pictures that really move about -- afterall, every picture, portrait and photo shown in the three movies so far move as if alive. Now where can I pre-order that tarot? Dave.

I must say that the little dog's rubbing of the fools thigh was what bothered me the most, lol

That first site is a great find! The designs are great, and the movements are so subtle -- not at all as extreme or grotesque as they *might* have been. My favorite: The Hermit.
(One time I had the idea of animating the tarot: following the Fool's Journey, in which one card slowly changes into the next card, and making a short film in which The Magician card eventually becomes The World. hmm... maybe I need to keep thinking of that idea.)

The devil's dance...very funny.
But that poor Mat gets bitten a lot !
There are those 3D cards that you have to look at from a different angle and then the picture changes. I had them when I was a kid, I had a picture of an owl who opened and closed his eyes. You had to move the card all the time to see movement.

That sounds very cool!

As some of you may know, I have been working on a new tarot project for some time now, as a follow up to the Gilded. Lee Burtsen is assisting me with reference material, advice, feedback and he will also be writing the companion text.
I had planned to keep this project confidential for a little while longer, but after having read this thread, I felt that the coincidence was too much. While the backbone of this new project will be of course the deck itself, one which will be more detailed in its illustrative style, and deeper in symbolic content, the material which will accompany it will include animated features that I believe will add a unique and intriguiging dimension to the tarot genre. No, we're not talking Harry Potter, but there will be more to it than in the examples shown on the web sites indicated in the earlier posts.
I will be updating my web site towards the middle of this week, to show sample images. I'll then also provide more info probably via a new thread.

I'll really look forward to seeing Ciro's animations - They sound very intriguing. In the meantime, the ones on the site Diana mentioned are quite witty. I must admit though, I can't take the Pope very seriously. He looks as if he's suffering from a bad migraine !

I can't wait to see Ceiro's (did I spell that right? I apolijize if I didn't), but I don't think that I'd want a tarot deck that moved on it's own. The Harry Potter moving deck would be cool, but the cards would be empty half the time! It would be really hard to work with cards that only had empty backgrounds on them. I think the flat screen nano-technology cards might be better, although, insanely expensive.

Not sure I'm keen on the idea of a Tarot deck which can be hacked, though! Imagine being in the middle of doing the classic "actually, Death can be a good card" spiel when the entire spread suddenly starts flashing images of the Grim Reaper at your now v. worried Querant... while someone nearby with a laptop sits sniggering to themselves.
