I have two tarot decks, Rider-Waite & Hanson-Roberts, and I'm interested in getting a third deck. I love ancient Egypt and would like to get a deck along those lines. Does anyone use this type of deck? What would you recommend for a inexperienced reader? I love the look of the Troth deck, but I know I will not be able to use them for readings.

I've heard many enjoy Clive Barrett's Ancient Egyptian for all the pictures on the 78 cards and the book that goes with it.

My symbolic art Egyptian decks from Da Vecchi with an Italian booklet by Laura Tuan and my favored Ancient Egyptian from Lo Scarabeo seem less popular among readers here.
Best wishes,

Greetings ~
I read with the Ancient Egyptian by Clive Barrett and love it.
It is RWS based but many of the images are quite different from RWS. The mythlogy is rich and it will help you to know the story of Isis and Osiris but that is readily available.
The one problem I have is with my sight :) When using this deck at first I needed a magnifying glass to catch all the detail. Now that I know the cards well that is not so much of a problem.
Strongly recommend this deck and it is relatively easy to find.
Thank you, Rusty Neon, for the link to the history of the Egyptian decks. Great reading.

i own:
Book of Doors Divination d/b
The Ancient Egyptian by Clive Barrett
The Eyptian bye Loscarbo d/b
The Ramses Tarot
Isbel's Temple of Isis Tarot
Tarot of Transition
and maybe a few others
i have used all of these to read with and i recommend any of them. But one must have at least a general knowledge of egyptian deities. If u dont know much of that then using egyptian decks will be difficult. i would suggest that u read up on egyptian deities and such.
just my advice

Thanks guys for all the suggestions! I've been doing a little research on the decks you have suggested. I really like the look of the Ramses deck.
I've loved ancient egyptian history since I've been a kid. I've read numberous books, watched many shows on the subject. I think I may need a refresher course but getting to know the deities won't be a problem.

Blackadder: I also had the RWS & Hanson-Roberts before I acquired the Ancient Egyptian Tarot. I am not familiar with other Egyptian-themed decks, but also fascinated with ancient Egyptian from early years.
The AET is a stunning example of Egyptology. It carries its theme with vibrant colours & intricate detail of the traditional Egyptian symbolism down to period dress. Its borders are hieroglyphs from the Egyptian Book of the Dead. A highly intuitive deck, it offers a unique reading experience. Its Majors suitable for meditative work.
