Hello,
I´ve started to wonder if there would be any pacifist tarot decks - ones without swords or anything like that - do these exist? How are swords replaced? What kind of solutions have been done?

I have mixed feelings about Rachel Pollack's Shining Tribe Tarot, but my favorite thing about it is the suits, which in this deck are Stones (Pentacles), Rivers (Cups), Birds (Swords) and Trees (Wands).

P.S. You might want to stay away from the Victoria Regina Tarot. The Swords suit is still called Swords, but on the cards, guns are used instead of swords!

In the Halloween Tarot, the swords are bats. In the Inner Child, they are still swords, but with MUCH more positive meanings--in fact as a whole it is one of the least violent decks. I have a little niece who gets nightmares easily but she loves this deck.

In Vision Quest, and others, suits are Earth, Air, Fire, and Water.

Funny, until mentioned here it had not occurred to me about "pacifist" Tarot decks but an interesting point.
I like the Halloween Tarot for the lack of the usual representations. & perfect for the month of October, too!
I think the Osho Zen could qualify: if I recall correctly, its Air suit is Clouds; Earth is Rainbows (though I tend to associate rainbows with either or both Air & Water).

Two untraditional decks:
The Shapeshifter tarot has instead of a swords suit a Fire suit, other suits are: Water, Earth and Air.
The Animal Wise Tarot has types of animals for the suits. Swords are replaced by Winged Ones. Other suits are Four-leggeds (pentacles), Shapeshifters (cups) and Ancients (wands). It works for me :D

Tarot of the Spirit by Patricia Eakins has the suits of Fire, Wind (istead of Swords), Earth and Water.
It is a beautiful deck and comes with a comprehensive handbook.
You might also consider the Buddha Tarot by Robert Place which also completely rebadges the suits.
Some people have used these decks from the beginning of their Tarot lives. Others say it is better for people to learn one of the traditional frameworks (eg Golden Dawn) and then diverge to others.
That is a personal choice.

The Tarot de Paris also uses Earth, Air, Water, and Fire for the suits, however it does not have a particularly pacifist feel to it.
The Angel's tarot by Robert Plaice has some cards in the majors that could seem un-pacifist. One shows an angel hung upside down in chains.

The recent thread on the Voyager deck made me realize I'd forgotten about that one. Voyager would be the perfect pacifist deck -- the Swords suit is replaced by Crystals, and the deck as a whole is very environmental and multicultural.

For example, the minor cards have a color-coordinated border according to their respective suit. Each suit has a specific cardinal direction, element and human function: vajras (symbolic thunderbolt or diamond symbol) in blue represent east, air and thinking to replace swords; jewels in yellow represent south, earth and sensation to replace pentacles or coins; lotuses in red represent west, fire and feeling to replace wands, and double vajras in green represent water and intuition to replace cups.

Songs for the Journey Home Tarot is a wonderfully peaceful deck. From the soft colors to the round cards - yet it is still a deck which reads with great depth and insight.

Suits are renamed:
Earth Songs (Pentacles)
Flame Songs (Wands)
Wave Songs (Cups)
Wind Songs (Swords)
Blessings,

What a great thread! I'll have to check out some of the decks mentioned. Thanks.
I love the Buddha Tarot for both readings and meditation.
Tarot of a Moongarden replaces swords with dragonflies.
The Inner Child is also a terrific deck which I let my grandson play with. It does have swords, but there is no violence. I'm not sure though, that I would agree it is a pacifist deck.
