Hi, welcome to AT!
Your question is tough to answer.
It's like asking "what's a good car to drive?" There's way too many kinds and styles, depending on where you will use the car and how, to give a simple answer. Each of us will have different answers for our favorites.
What kind of deck do you have, Marseilles or RWS or Thoth, or a clone of one of those styles? Do you want to branch out or stay in the same style?
Do you want to apply knowledge of astrology, runes, kabbalah references, or just go with keywords and images? How many books and/or threads here do you want to read?
Give us more clues about where you are in tarot study.
For prices, check tarotgarden.com or Amazon.com (for starters). They'll give you one range. Many decks are available in the US at bookstores, too.

Hello,
Well I love the Gaurdian Deck and the Arthurian deck, the art work is lovely and I have a great connection with both decks, but like Imagemaker said, it really depends on you and what you like. What tarot deck do you have now? What are you interested in Vikings, Vampires, Angels? Good luck in your tarot hunt.
Blessed Be
Isis

Like Imagemaker,
I think its what appeals to you the most. Some people on here will swear by the Marseille or Marseille style decks, I don't find this style of deck easy to read with.
I like Rider Waite clone decks - my favourite being the Morgan Greer. Also the Universal Waite and the Radiant Rider.
The Thoth is a good deck to get started with if the symbolism and artwork of the Rider Waite or the Marseille don't appeal. But there are many styles of deck some traditional others not so traditional.
What deck are you using now?

hi im at school right now so i have to make this one quick! ok i have a hanson-roberts deck (the smaller size) and i bought it cause it was cheap and i just wanted one asap. so i bought it. i just want to get anouther good deck. im looking for a deck that is easy to figure out the meanings by the backgrounds, yet it looks cool... i live in eau claire wisconsin and where we can buy our decks are either at the Walden books in the mall here or at the Borders bookstore here (at least thats all ive heard of...). they are EXPENSIVE in my eyes.... the highest deck though is about 40 bucks i think. and then the lowest deck is like 15.... and then theres another place (comic store) that has a LOTR tarot and game. its kinda cool but its 15 too... it sucks. so if i want to spend that much on a deck, i want to get a good one. just a good beginner deck. thanx :D

The Robin Wood, IMHO, is a good beginners deck as you describe it, and not too expensive (about $20, but A GOOD DECK and worth it!) A good deck that you can live with, will last you years if you care for it well. See if you can look at several pictures of decks, and pick one that you can understand the meaning from the pictures you see. (The Forum home page index lists a large number with at least a few pictures, start there.)

Morgan Greer or Aquarian are a couple of longtime popular decks....

The question was unequivocal...so is my answer....
Thoth is the best...except Tarot of Prague, it's the best too!!

This could turn out to be a touchy subject, and I have attempted to reply to you twice now, trying to avoid controversy. But I think that aint gonna happen so I am just giving my point of view...... looking through the eyes of a 14 year old. (I vaguely remember this and when I forget I have a 13 year old daugher who comes close!)
I love marseilles decks, and the Thoth and RWS.
But....... for someone of your age, with very limited funds, and possibly trying to get something easily readable (before being put off Tarot altogether.) I would say follow the RWS tradition (because it has pictures to help).
Then I would think about what you are particularly interested in.... Lark's idea of the Gothic is great if you are into fantasy, Goth, Vampire things.
I would agree with Robin Wood, Spiral, Mprgan Greer.... there are many RWS clones. Try and think of what your interest is and then we can help you further.

Best deck in the Rider Waite tradition, bar none...
Tarot of Prague!!!! Don't bother with books, let the images teach you. This deck speaks to so many people, and always says something worth listening to.

Hi there!
I feel that your eagerness to find a quick answer, fast, will take away one of the most important thing Tarot has to offer... and that is variety, and the ability to "click" with a deck personally...
Instead of adding more names, you can start browsing at the AT decks section. A glance at a few cards is all you need to know if there is a reason for you to look at it further... So, identify what attracts you, and then shop around for it... Believe me, don't see this as a hassle, but as the "joy of shopping".
Good luck! :)
