Hi,
Does anyone here use the Cosmic as their main reading deck? Or if not main deck, a very close second?
I bought the deck yesterday and absolutely love it. I love all the images- some more than others. But I am conscious that some of them deviate from the "typical" RWS meanings / images. I am currently trying to learn the RWS "system"- can I just use the general meaning of the RWS for the Cosmic? Or do some of the cards stray away too far?
Would love to hear your experiences, thoughts and comments
Many thanks,
Regards,
Ian

IDN,
I'm currently exploring the Cosmic Tarot for my daily inspiration. For the last several days I started doing a single card read nightly for the next day. To begin I started taking one card from all different decks then doing comparisons with same card of other decks. The last ten days or so I settled on the Cosmic. I haven't found a study group thread for this deck yet, so I thought I chime in here. The images are very attractive. I was looking for a deck with some diversity in the characters and this one definitely has that. The card for today was Temperance! A brighter card than most; a card of transformation. A beautiful lady blending the liquids of the two cups with a slight smile. The mixing, the giving back... inspired, yet grounded. Fusion. She looks contented with the process. A bright sun partially covered by clouds over a blue sky. Temperance is one I look for in any deck I meet. Sorry. Got carried away. Hope to watch this thread develop. :TTEMP

The Cosmic and the Rohrig are two of my favorite reading decks. I also have the Cosmic in the original German version. Perhaps I connect with this deck because of the familiar faces. I'm madly in love with the Kelch Prinzessin (Princess of Cups).

Hi IDN
I have just started using the cosmic tarot and thinks its a wonderful deck to use. I did 6 tarot readings yesterday and for 4 of them i used the cosmic tarot and found it so easy to use and i just picked up so much from the cards. My main deck at the moment is the ancient egyptian tarot, but the cosmic tarot has proved the best one so far to use when doing a bulk of readings in a short space of time, so at the moment i have to say that i have two main decks.

I too love the Cosmic and the Rohrig decks. I always have great readings with the Cosmic. I like it better than the RW.

My Cosmic deck arrived just 3 days ago. I absolutely love pictures but sometimes i do not know how to read the cards - some of them look sooo different from my RW. I did a reading for my future exam and was unsure about the results - 7 of pentacles. Using RW, i would take this card as a good omen but in Cosmic it looks just as a complete failure. The second resding with RW gave quite optimistic results. I really do not know fow to interpret Cosmic.

Yes, some are the cards are quite different from the RWS meaning. I understand they are more closely associated with the Thoth meanings?
If you can get the book on the Cosmic Tarot, by Jean Huets- I would recommend doing so- it really helps.
The Cosmic has quelled (over night) my desire to buy any more decks for the foreseeable future!

Ian

I'm of the opinion that if you want to learn the RWS system, its good to use a deck based on RWS. My favorite is Robin Wood because I think the images are nicer than that of the traditional RWS. When you get a grasp of this you can branch out to non traditional decks, using the knowledge you've already gained with the RWS system.
Just my opinion. *sheepish grin*

There have been periods when both the Rohrig and the Cosmic have been my main deck. It is quite possible to read well with either. In fact, one of the best professional readers I have ever met uses the Cosmic as her only deck. In terms of quality, the Cosmic is a well produced deck. It is also easy to read with, with pictures that fit in well, and that 'feel' right.

It is quite possible to read well with either. Oh, i do not doubt that! Just wondered - if i will automatically transfer meanings from RWS to Cosmic, would it work? Now i see that, probably, not.

It is possible to transfer meanings over...but that would not really be the right approach. The reason is that each deck has a unique interpretation of Tarot. For example, my main deck is the Tarot of the Old Path, but, due to the composers of it, I find that the emphasis of the 3 of Wands is different than, say, the RWS. Neither is wrong, and it would be possible to know RWS, and see that in the TotOP. However, to do so, would be, in effect, forcing one deck to act as another. To use the RWS as an initial guide, until you learn a new deck, is quite feasible though.

The Cosmic Tarot is one of my favorites, slight modern touches such as denim pants, phones, cars, tanks, and planes as well as very familiar faces from the pantheon of movie stars. I have made several Cosmic Tarot threads in the General Study group just do a search for "cosmic tarot,"
