Perhaps this has already come up in a thread, but I thought I would mention it. We just finished watching the DVD of the 3rd movie, and I was wondering if anyone would like a Harry Potter Tarot made? Not some cutsy, fluffy thing, but a very well-made deck. Characters, animals, familiars, situations, even the Whomping Willow, could be cards. Anyone have any fun thoughts or know how to put a bug in someone's very talented ear? Voldermort could be the Devil, The Dementors could be Death, or something, even Hermoine's time travelling piece could represent a card, (Wheel of Fortune?) Those of you more familiar to the arcanas would know best. I would love something nicely made, with the back cover perhaps being a deep blue, with the floating lit candles on it, like in the great hall! Might be fun to toss this idea about and see what everyone comes up with. Professor Lupine could be The Moon! Even Qidditch could play an interesting part. Thoughts?

I think that would be an excellent idea. It would have to be very well made.

There was a discussion about June or so on how a deck that they'd actually USE at Hogwarts would be even better! even though the divination classes taught by Trelawney didn't show any (not sure if she used them in the book either). Nobody's done it though, and J.K. Rowling is too busy with the next book & supervising the movies to make one.

I thikn it was said in another thread that Stuart Kaplan had declined to make the deck because it would be too expensive to license. I think it's pobably best not to have any occult products officially linked to the books.

A Harry Potter deck would be fun, but in truth, theme decks are not the issue. A deck could be based on anything, and be good, it's down to the artist and writer to devise the deck with depth, understanding, and userability. Still, a Harry Potter deck? Cool!

I agree, the copyright issues would be difficult to overcome.
HOWEVER. . .Dumbledore could be the Hierophant, and Professor McGonagall would be good as the High Priestess. But what about the Empress and Emperor ? Harry's parents ? (I know they are dead, but they are an influence.) Or perhaps Mrs and Mr Weasley would be better in those roles. Interesting. Hagrid would make an excellent King of Cups-all that mature compassion-but as he's such a pivotal character he probably deserves to be one of the Majors. Which, though ?

I am sure the rights would be very hard to get, but when the books are done, and the movies complete, it certainly would be a possibility. I like the idea! Hogwart's Express could be The Chariot. Hogwart's could be The World. I haven't decided where Hagrid, Snape, Ron or Hermoine would go. Harry might make a good "Star." I am looking at my Robin Wood deck booklet. It says hope and faith, blending of the best of the past and present, mastering the occult arts. Of course, it would also depend on the direction the last few books take. Neville Longbottom for The Fool, perhaps? And where to put Draco Malfoy. Oh, the possibilities! Harry's home, where his parents get killed and he receives the scar, could be The Tower. The Sorting Hat as Judgement, maybe?

There is a Tarot deck made with LEGO at reasonablyclever some of the cards were designed using the Harry Potter LEGO collection, I wonder why most of those cards are in the Wands suit? :D

Kiama, thank you for the link to your site. I think I would make The Tower-Azbakan, itself. I love many of the choices you made, and how you explain why you chose them. The Burrow, as the Sun, is perfect! Very good thinking! I hope to see you add more to the minor arcana as well! Fun ideas!
