Hey folks,
Just a brief update, The Stygian Darkness Tarot has been changed to the Archeon Tarot.
It also has a new website
www.archeontarot.com
As before you can still view the entire deck by visiting the site.

But I liked the OLD name! Archeon, to me, is a prehistoric turtle (for real, they call it that).

The turtle that holds up the world? Which myth was that?
Seems like a very appropriate name for a tarot deck!

Not myth, a real one from the Cretaceous. But it turns out that I got the spelling wrong, it's archelon. I remembered it from an old book we had on prehistoric life.
Here's a pic, it was the biggest sea turtle recorded so far for North America, was 16' long and lived in the North Dakota area when we had the inland sea here. (Cool stuff!)

The new name brings forth interesting sense of revitalisation.
Was the revision prompted by the new owners of USGames?

it's archelon.
He..he...
That discussion made me laugh!
HELONA in Greek means turtle... and Archeon means ancient.
so I guess this is how the archelon is the ancient turtle?
I'm not so sure myself about the name change, becasue i also liked the old one, but I guess it's natural for people to like the new or like the old.
I guess Tim feels it's more with his signature, since the name comes from him?
Maybe it can be a subtitle?
and yes, it's interesting to knwo whether the name change came for you or US games...
Anyway, I really like your work Tim, no matter what you call it!!!!!
Nice navigation in the website...
Good Luck!

The name change was a result of discussions in this forum and elsewhere. It was my decision, it was nothing that was forced on me, and had I wanted it to remain "Stygian Darkness" it would have.
I had so many people all telling me the same thing... that they wouldn't even look at the deck initially because they felt the name implied a dark art, goth, or vampire style deck, but when they did look at it they were surprised to see that it wasn't that way at all.
Initially, and I think I laid this out in another thread, I chose stygian darkness as an homage to mythology and symbolism, but it was becoming clear that the name conjured up a different image for a lot of people.

I think this is generally one of the best decks ever, and of the photomontage style probably "the" best. A great inspiration for tarot creativity.

to be one of the more creative decks to be in the to be published category. The title change does not change the mystical qualities of the cards. Still anticipating these cards!--Tao

Archeon, I keep sneaking back to your site to look at the images. They are so POWERFUL. I have a feeling that no-one is going to be neutral about your deck ! I will definitely be acquiring it in due course. I've seen that it's due to be out in "Spring 2005." Do you have a more exact date yet ?-which month, for example ? Just wondering.
thanks again for this great artwork

Thank you for the kind words...
It looks as though April is going to be the release date, but I still haven't been given anything more official than that. Amazon.com has it listed as March 30, and that sounds right with what I've been told, so hopefully that's accurate.

I hope the cards will be big enough to do justice to the artwork :)
I am happy the release date is coming closer now. It will be great to see this deck in real life.
