It's all your fault. LOL

Thread originally posted on the Aeclectic Tarot Forum on 09 Dec 2004, and now archived in the Forum Library.

Ok, when I first got here I was going to be all happy and content with my one deck...the Gilded.

Well...then I start reading thread after thread of cool decks, and why people love them, and how different they are. And seeing pictures of said decks.
I have very little impulse control as it is...and I have to go to the bookstore to Holiday shop and you know what they have? Tarot decks. Ahhhhh!

So see, it's all your (ATF members collectively) fault that I'm getting addicted. I just know I'll be buying something when I shop this evening.

I just hope you are happy with what you've done. LOL. I guess you've inducted a new member successfully, and turned me into a tarotaholic. My only saving grace is I'm realatively picky...only 10 or so decks are on my wish list...and my pocketbook won't let me go Crazy.

So where is the Tarotaholics Anonymous thread? 12 step program anyone?
SJ

Note: this was of course all in good fun (just in case anyone wasn't sure)

Imagemaker  09 Dec 2004
It's a virus that spreads through the blue and purple screen. A year ago I arrived here with 4 decks and now I happily splash, leap and plunge through my piles in total delirium!

Isn't it fun?

You name it, you get it, here is the thread :D

ferrous  09 Dec 2004
There's a good de-enabling thread around here somewhere, but mostly it ends up making people see more decks which others are trying not to buy & they end up wanting them for themselves. lol! :D

To give souljourney more reasons to blame us :D

Yeah..yeah.. yeah... I only wanted 10 too :D

(come back to this thread in a year.... )

souljourney  09 Dec 2004
You all are evil I tell you, evil...
I was relatively good. I bought one deck...cuz, um, well, it followed me to the register, yeah that's it. Kinda like a puppy follows you home.
It's the Gendron deck. It was one I didn't post in my "wishlist" because I thought the wish list was long enough...but it is one I've wanted. :D I'm just glad I didn't go shopping at the local "new age" store...I know I would have come home with the Fey Deck and maybe Quest or Cosmic Tribe too...
*skips off to go look at it, and do "the new deck" spread*...

Keslynn  10 Dec 2004
The Fey deck is indeed wonderful. Maybe that one will follow you home as well? Poor things, they're so obviously being neglected on those hard store shelves. It's only humane to give them a good home and take good care of them. ;)

Welcome to tarotholism.

:) Kes

Clau  10 Dec 2004
I sooo agree!

I came to At with only three decks, a week since I signed in I got the ToP....And now I want so many decks!

Fortunately I'm in a really tight budget now, otherwise I don't know where i'd be by now!

Of course this does not enable my whish list to keep growing and growing....

Maggie Bell  10 Dec 2004
Yep, it's an addiction!

Maggie who has three must-have decks on Santa's List ...

Majecot  10 Dec 2004
Hehe.. welcome to tarotholics :D

Sooner or later the bug bites us all. Some of us sooner than later, I think DeadStar held out the longest :D.
I came here with the mood of I am going to be using only one, so therefore I parred down, but very quickly went into the reverse.

All for "study", yay.. thats it... study.

A tarot budget helps.. if you can stick to it.

Tarot Sparrow  10 Dec 2004
Well this is what we do! We lure unsuspecting prey into our web and feed them subliminal tarot messages :) Didn't you know?

And to think I used to be like you once. lol... "I only need one deck!" Yeah, right Dead Star...

Lurea  10 Dec 2004
Heck, I can't even call myself a Taroholic anymore--I'm getting downright slutty! :D When I was first checking out decks, I found oh, ten or twenty that I really liked and had to have, and rejected many more.

Glastonbury? Too primitive.
Halloween? Too novelty.
Enchanted? Too frou-frou.
Ancient Egyptian? Too egyptian.
Goddess? Too militantly feminist.
Marseilles? Just yuck! Icky wood block images, who would want that?

Ahem. Fell to the Goddess first. It's gorgeous!! Glastonbury? On my Christmas list. Bought the Halloween and the Enchanted. Ancient Egyptian came in the mail yesterday. And I was slinking around the Let's Marseilles forum today--hey, honey, you don't look so bad, want to come home with me??? ;)

Well, you should have said, Souljurney, cos I've got a copy collecting dust that you could have had! Glad you like it - I've just never taken to it.

Emily  11 Dec 2004
Ahh yes I remember Dead Star bravely holding out lol.

I came here with one deck - that didn't last long. I spent months denying that I was a collector even when my decks started to rank over 30 plus.

Who was I trying to kid - I am a deck collector and proud of it. :D

souljourney  11 Dec 2004
Scorpion, that would have been great. Shipping it probably would have cost as much as the deck...well almost. :D. But that was sweet.
So, do I dare ask what anyone else has that's collecting dust and needing a good home? I need my fix guys...poor little me with only 2 decks.
OMG...what am I saying??!!??
I will say it really is tough not to put lots of stuff on my wish list. Like that new "Housewives Tarot", kinda '50's retro and seems like people think it's actually kinda "readable" and only $15. The Garden Path deck by rabble...mmm just waiting for the 78 card version, probably more than I can afford though. *sigh*
I'm hoping my friend gets me the Fey Tarot...that seems to be the one calling me lately of the ones on my wishlist. Also I'm really wanting something Pagan/Wiccan/Druid/Naturish... Sacred Circle or Druidcraft.
See what you all have started!
Must log off now...

I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't like the Fey tarot :D

Little Baron  11 Dec 2004
I don't really buy decks anymore at the moment, as have enough to keep me occupied and working with only a couple right now. But .. have always loved the artwork of the Fey tarot. I can understand why it is special for a lot of you.

Yes, it is special alright. I have found these fey so enchanting. They call for attention and get it.

And then there is a chest of drawers filled to the max with other decks and books that have caught my fancy at some time or another and they all clammor for the attention they rightly deserve......and there is just not enough time!

And even knowing this as well as I do, my wishlist grows......*sigh*

BTW, Yaboot, I noticed you moved to Smurf village!! How do u like it? Do u live in a mushroom? And are there any other mushrooms for sale?

Little Baron  12 Dec 2004
It is the same with my decks, Pook. There are many there that I appreciate and love for the artwork, but only a few that stay oout for readings and study. To be honest, the majority that I own never see the light of day. They live in a cupboard in my bedroom; I have the Ancient Italian and Marseilles by my bed though, at arms length, for use when I am at my laptop; and also that they can easily be plonked in my bag if I am going somewhere.

It is a nice feeling when you have a strong relationship with a deck or two, like you have with the Fey; it is nice to have a close 'mate' to wander through the journey with.

And yes, I have moved; got a nice little house inbetween 'Jokey Smurf' and 'Smurfette'. Very happy there. Got to get ready and go gather smurf-berries in a bit.

I arrived at this safe haven for Tarot lovers with only two decks....I thought that would be more than enough,- I mean,- it's all more or less the same, isn't it?! :D!!! Duh!! Was I ever wrong....I never in a million years realized that there even existed that many different decks, and of course, I had to order a few more....Right now I have 5....but then, I keep reading the boards here and I feel so incomplete (*LOL* it IS all your fault!!!!!!) for not having the Thoth (yes, I'm ashamed to admit, been here for a few months and I still don't have it!), so that will be next on my list....and now with all the discussion on the Marseille....ohhh, what am I going to do?! Shouldn't I have one of those as well to at least try to figure out what the fuss is all about?! Ugg.........my dear and darling husband is coming to realize a very basic and difficult truth lately: Amazon.com + my credit card make up for a very explosive combination............:)

Blessings to all,

Cielo

I just started here, but I've been on Aeclectic often before and I've got 34 decks on my wishlist. I can't spend any money on them because I haven't got any money (Yay for being a student). Luckily Christmas is coming up and everyone else in my family has a good job... My Christmas list is starting to look like my Tarot wishlist.

[quote also i'm really wanting something pagan/wiccan/druid/naturish... sacred circle or druidcraft quote]

Still can't get this quote thing right.

Hi SJ, I just knew you were going to cave LOL :) Have a look at my Tarot of the Old Path, they are pagan/wiccan and beautiful.

I am being VERY VERY good. I still only have this one deck hee hee. Willpower, willpower, willpower, I am luckily very busy at work so am not getting the chance to look at any other cards at present hee hee. See how long I can hold out, after all I have put two decks on my wishlist!!!!

Hehe.. Tarotaholics Anonymous. That is the same thing I thought of some time ago, meeting so many other tarot addicts. We did start a kind of Tarot anonymous group on a mailinglist, but I am afraid we are only encouraging eachother to buy more decks and tell where we can get them *grin*

You better face it, once you are hooked, you are hooked. But there are worse addictions :-)

Ditto! Though thankfully it looks like it's gonna go both ways... Suddenly my entire family (which borders on the pagan as it is) wants decks of their own so our entire Christmas may be the 22 Days of Tarot. I'm trying to match the person to the deck... And as I'm trolling for gift decks, my own list is waxing.
It's making the whole shopping for gifts things WAY easier!

:)~
