Lovers' Path Tarot arrived today!

My limited edition is sitting on an antique chair in the hall, in a priority mail box.
Which means that if you pre-ordered, yours (limited edition or not) should be showing up any day now. Get excited!

My only quandary is this: Do I open it now, or wait until Christmas?

Please post your reactions and initial impressions when you get yours!

Asher  17 Dec 2004
It is just beautiful!

A large dark red box with 2 velcro closures to begin with...

Upon opening the box, you will find:

* A signed and numbered certificate of authenticity, full color, depicting Cupid and Psyche
* A burgundy bag containing a signed and numbered card XXII, Artistry, depicting the lovers Filamena & Angelo, along with a explanatory leaflet
* A signed and numbered print (of a pencil drawing) of Amor & Beatrice, size is 7 1/4 x 8 inches
* The companion book, signed, 7 3/4 x 8 inches, illustrated in full color
* The deck itself, in its own box, set into a shadow-box-like well
* To the left of the deck well, a (according to the box) "custom scroll spread sheet, tied with red ribbon" (I haven't opened this yet)

A stunning presentation, to say the least.

And then there's the deck...beautiful artwork, readable right out of the box (although I will use the book to refresh my memory of some of the pairs of lovers depicted on some of the cards). Suits are Cups, Staves, Arrows and Coins.

I am glad I also ordered a regular edition, so I can keep my limited edition pristine. There are only 400 limited edition sets to be made, including all of the above.

What a gorgeous early Yule gift!!!

SongDeva...
I would open it now of course...
But don't wait for Christmas anyway... Tuesday is Yule.
Hey, I'm looking for any reason for you to open it sooner...just trying to help. :D

162 pages long, and I am very much enjoying reading about the pairs of lovers chosen for the deck.

Interesting about the Minors - each suit represents a particular love story and the cards show the progression through the story (like in the Mythic deck).

The stories are:

Cups = Tristan and Isolde (The path of emotion)
Staves = Brunnhilde and Siegfried (The path of action)
Arrows = Cupid and Psyche (The path of wisdom)
Coins = Danae and Zeus (The path of manifestation)

I must stop reading these "new deck" threads. That sounds really cool how each suit is a story of a particular couple.
You know...I wish I smoked, then I could quit and use the money I'd be saving for tarot decks!!! At least it would still be spending the same but on a healthier habit.

I just ran downstairs to see if the mail has come yet. Feh, it hasn't.

I have errands I need to do, but am tempted to sit here until the mail does come. It shouldn't be more than an hour...or so...and an hour or two to look over the deck. Let's see. As long as I get out the door in time to pick out a Yule tree before sundown, I can do all the other errands in the dark...or tomorrow.

Or if you want to wait a bit to sort of highten the anticipation open it on solstice. That's when my family celebrates Christmas anyhow. I want that deck now you horrible, horrible people. ;) *rages at being poor*

Keslynn  19 Dec 2004
It really is lovely. I wrote a glowing review of it because it's so beautiful. Even the packaging is gorgeous.

Why wait?

*scratching her chin*

You people do present some very persuasive arguments.
I think Yule is a great time to look at a new deck, though I'm not even done exploring my Ironwing yet.....

We shall see! Looking forward to further reports from the Path.

....as she packs her saddlebags on her trusty blue roan (bicycle), peering over her shoulder every 30 secs and wonders...did the former trusty postman do a 180-degree-simon-legree-turn and deliver the precious goods to his own beloved tootsie? Especially since she is nearing the time she has to ride off in the sunset, for the snow countries, for that final year-end-round-up....

...she heaves a sad sigh and sings, "as I wok down in the streets of Laredo..."

...maybe the treasure box will be faithfully awaiting her return...

Qh well! I will be glad to return and hear stories of your beloved treasure finds.

My Lover's Path deck arrived today. I think it took longer to make it's way to Canada, as so many people seemed to have received it weeks ago.:-)

The best part is that although I ordered it months ago, it just showed up in time to become deck number 6 for me. How cool is that??? :-)

SongDeva  30 Dec 2004
Very cool indeed. The tarot angels planned that one. :)
Cerulean, did yours ever show up??

Cerulean  30 Dec 2004
and am tucking it into my New Year's treasure ship wish-box...

Joy to you all! Happy New Year!

I purshased The Lovers Path tarot as a New Years deck for my wife and me. After a fire ritual in our chiminea we did a reading from this amazing deck. For heterosexual couples this is a great deck. Very meaningful. Anyone else out there into this great deck????

ros  02 Jan 2005
Not yet but I'm considering ordering!
It's beautiful.

mzoltarp  02 Jan 2005
Go for it! The artwork is evocative and the spreads suggested are creative and quite intuitive.

A question for those who've received it...and who have the Goddess tarot. How does it compare in size? Is it bigger, smaller, or about the same size as the Goddess?

I'm saving my pennies and hope to own it soon :).

Lurea  03 Jan 2005
To my untutored eye--the LP is about a quarter of an inch wider, and an eighth of an inch longer than the Goddess Tarot.

Beautiful, beautiful deck. :)

[quote=mzoltarp] For heterosexual couples this is a great deck. QUOTE]

This statement bothers me. Does this mean that heterosexuals cannot enjoy and use the Gay Tarot, or that men cannot enjoy and use the Daughters of the Moon or other feminist decks??? Can a dog-lover not enjoy and use the Baroque Bohemian Cats Tarot? Etc...I don't believe that tarot is as limiting as that.

As a gay man, I happen to _love_ the Lover's Path deck and get amazing readings with it. (And I happen to dislike the Gay Tarot, as I find very little "gay" anything in it... but that's for another post, perhaps).

The Lover's Path is a great deck which, IMHO, has great appeal for many people.

My Lover's Path arrived Dec 30th. Yes it is bigger. I am sure you will find it worth all the pennies you can save up. It's just stunnning, from the way it is packaged, to the beauty of the artwork, to the stories behind them. I am actually finishing off a reading with the Goddess deck. Then I can't wait to try out the Lover's Path.

Asher,

Clearly the imagery of the deck is biased toward heterosexual images, but to bristle over my statement of that fact is just surreal. First of all, the couples and hetero-orientation by the author of the materials is readily apparent. Thus, the deck may not be as alluring to some same-sex couples. If you find that it speaks to you, that is great. I never said that same-sex couples could not enjoy this deck, but it also does not take a rocket scientist to realize that same-sex couples may not relate to this deck as easily as heterosexual couples may. Therefore there is no need to place a value judgment one me and put words in my mouth. My comment "For heterosexuals this is a great deck" must be viewed within the implied context of my original post and from the artwork and materials that accompany the deck. To summarize that context: This is a deck that my wife and I can share jointly and it is one that can be "owned" by two people. I'm sorry if you took offense to my post because clearly none was intended.

It's great that Asher is open-minded about this deck. Some people might look at it and dismiss it since the imagery *is* very heterosexual, but I think the emotions involved in the stories transcend gender. And open-mindedness is always a good thing. ;)

That's an interesting concept. So you find that the LP works equally well for you and your wife?

gypsy_morrigan  05 Jan 2005
Well, I did it: I finally ordered it! I can't wait until it arrives; I've wanted this but had to put off ordering it since October.

SongDeva  13 Jan 2005
Well, I'm the proud owner of LE #33 and finally opened it last night.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

I'm not generally blown away, and I don't wax overly poetic very often.
But this deck and it's attendant trinkets and packaging...is like opening a ripe pomegranate while floating down river on a barge strewn with velvet pillows, swaying willows on the banks, under a full moon on a steamy August night.

Delicious, succulent, and capable of carrying you away!

:D

I just received my standard "deluxe" edition today. I can't believe it was only $30 Canadian, it really is deluxe with high quality printing and materials. Just opening the packaging and then the deck, book and scroll was a sensual experience. The cards are goosebump inducing and the book is really classy. This really was a beautiful birthday present to receive from my wife (see [thread=36231]this thread[/thread] for details).

So, anyone interested in a study group? I'll post an opening thread in that section and see what happens.

Happy Loving!

Now ya'll have made me go and order it. See what you do to my wallet???

LOL, :D

I can't wait. I love the Goddess Tarot so much. I'm hoping this one will grab me the same way.

R :)

Well, there are no perfect decks, but if you like the Goddess Tarot I think you will probably also click with The Lover's Path. One really intriguing aspect, which may be unique, is that almost every one of the Majors contain both genders. I actually prefer Kris's art work in The Lover's Path. You are more than welcome to join us in the study group.

There's a study group? Oooooo....

(I'm new here, you understand. ;) )

I just ordered mine tonight! *wiggle*

Hi Elizabeth

Welcome to the community! This link will take you to The Lover's Path [thread=36978]Study Group Index.[/thread]

Me too. I really love both decks, but the artwork is even nicer in the Lover's Path. :-)

Just to echo the enthusiasm so many feel about this deck. The Romantic in me who ordered the limited edition was almost in tears when I took it out of its package-it is just so beautiful. ALL of it is beautiful-the cards themselves most of all, but also the book, the scroll, the black-and-white print. I never feel very far away in sympathy from mythological stories, and this deck has sent me right back to them!

Thank you, Kris Waldherr, if you are reading this. Your baby daughter-when will she be born ?-has a very talented mummy ! :) :)

Elizabeth Genco  11 Mar 2005
My deck arrived today. WOW. It's simply gorgeous -- mere words can't do it justice.

I can't wait to dig in with it. I've recieved three decks this week and this is by far my favorite, and probably will be my favorite for some time to come.

ps: thanks for the study group link!
