Just received the Das Baum Tarot (the German Tree Tarot). It is a lovely major arcana deck, with each card connected to plants/trees. Does anyone else have this deck? What do you think of it? Have you figured out all the trees or plants associated with each card?
Thanks,
Bodhran

Tree Tarot (Das Baum) Review : Aeclectic Tarot
Review by Solandia
The Tree Tarot (or das Baum-Tarot) is a 22 card major arcana only deck. Based on a German book that translates to 'Madru - of the Great Forest', the creators of this deck have assigned a particular Northern European tree to each card, representing certain situations in human life - hopes, fears, desires, conflict, wishes.

The namess of the trees and plants are printed on the cards in German. My German is rusty but the ones I think I know are;
0 Birke - Birch
I Buche - Beech
II Erle -
III Linde - Linden
IV Tanne - Cedar?
V Pappel -
VI Heckenrose - Wild Rose
VII Nainbuche -
VIII Eiche - Oak
IX Haselnuss - Hazel Nut
X Walnuss - Walnut
XI Wacholder - Juniper
XII Larche - Larch
XIII Efeu - Ivy
XIV Kiefer -
XV Eberesche -
XVI Birnbaum -
XVII Kirschbaum - Cherry Tree
XVIII Holunder - Gorse
XIX Ginster - Locust
XX Weissdorn - Hawthorne
XXI Apfelbaum - Apple Tree
Perhaps, some native German speakers could fill in the rest.

I too have this cute deck, I bought it from the German amazon, where it can be bought very cheaply - so I bought the whole set book + deck for € 9,95.
A little extra - this set comes with a sachet of tree seeds too :)
The book tells the story of Madru's journey through the big forest, and the tarot helps him on his journey, and he has to protect the forest against the greedy king.
I haven't read the whole book yet (it is in German, after all ;) ) but if you want I can keep you updated on how the story relates to the different cards, but I need a bit more time to delve into it.
I am not a native German either but I found the following trees:
II Erle - alder
IV Tanne - (I thought) spruce
V Pappel - poplar
XIV Kiefer - pine
XVI Birnbaum - pear tree

I got mine from the German Amazon too but don't remember it being so cheap to the US. I don't recall getting seeds with mine either.

Gerbear and Wolfspirit, thanks so much for the "German to English" translations! Wolfspirit I would love to hear all about Madru's journey when you have the chance!

A friend of mine brought this for me from germany when he visited a couple of years ago. I love it ... especially the Hanged Man. Although my friend translated the information with the deck - verbally - unfortunately, I have forgotten it. He'll be visiting again in a year or two ... this time I'll ask him to write it out.... and post it here. My high school German (1960's vintage) is not up to the task, unfortunately.
