:( I've been several weeks away from the cards... even my beloved (and new!) Glastonbury. We went away for Thanksgiving, all of us catching some wee beastie while there, and I haven't wanted to pick them up since. I'm thinking a good cleansing might be in order but can't decide what to do. Ideas? That's the general help I need.
Now, for the specific.
I've read in other posts people say they primarily use their Glastonbury for spell work. I'm not great at merging the tarot and spell work... at least not yet. Would any of you care to weigh in on exactly how you blend these two and how the Glastonbury in particular works for you? Thanks!
cheers,
stephanie

Hi Etain
I don't do spell work, but I can understand why this deck would be used for spells. It's a gentle deck with images that are quite magical, particularly if you know the Glastonbury area. I never see anything harmful in the deck and even the so called negative cards and full of gentle meaning and make you think deeply.
Does your deck really need cleansing? I think you could try connecting to it by just shuffling it and looking at the images again.
I hope someone else can come along and help regarding spellwork, but as I see it, intent has alot to do with spells. Be positive about the deck, that may be a good start.

Hi Etain,
I use The Glastonbury tarot for spell work, for exactly the reasons that Moonbow* has pointed out.
The images in this deck use colour symbolism and I use colour a lot in magic so it fits very well.
The keywords are very positive too which, I think makes them very good for focusing the mind during spellwork.
I think you may want to know exactly how I merge tarot with spells.....Well basically I'll choose a few cards which portray the desired outcome of my spell. I use a glass pentacle for magic and I place the chosen cards (I'll choose a number of cards relevant to the particular spell too) under the pentacle and then I'll use them just like any other magical tool to focus my attention on the desired outcome.
For example in a spell to help my daughter to settle into school, make friends and gain confidence I used:
The Fool and The Maid of Chalices to represent my daughter
3 of Chalices - Celebration; which shows 3 children playing and 10 of Chalices - Happiness to represent my magical goal.
I chose 4 cards as 4 is a number of stability and completion.
This is how the cards were laid:
...........................(2) - maid of Chalices...............
.........(3)-3 of Chalices...........(4) - 10 of Chalices..........
...........................(1) - The Fool..............
There are a couple of books available on the subject:
'Tarot Spells' - Janina Renee
'The Tarot Spellcaster: Over 40 Spells to Enhance Your Life with the Power of Tarot Magic' - Terry Donaldson
'Tarot and Magic' - Donald Michael Kraig
I have the Janina Renee book but I don't use it and have only skimmed through it - I prefer to write my own spells.
Hope that's helped.
Love
Sulis xx

Thank you both!
I've been trying to work with the cards more routinely, hoping to get out of whatever rut I'm in. I don't know why it's been so difficult for me lately!
Regarding the spellwork, I think I understand, Sulis. Visualization is very important for me, and I can see (no pun intended) how the Glasonbury could aid with this.
Thanks again... maybe I'll be able to report some progress soon.
cheers,
