Talk Me Out of It

I'm about to buy the Tarot of Prague, The Animal Lords, and the Fey. Can anyone talk me out of it? :)

FantasyWorld  09 Jan 2005
:D
Do you know anything about Prague??? Do you really want to??? Do you want to study it??? Will you actually use it?

How familiar are you with animals??? Do you connect with them, all of them?? Some are strange and not native to many areas. It is a strange deck. Can you read with any deck especially ones with animals? Do you really have the money, a place to keep it, will you really use it or will it just sit on a shelf???

Do you feel a connection with the Fey folk??? Do you want to? Again, will you use it, do you have the money???

:D
How was that?

RedMaple  09 Jan 2005
I do feel a connection with animals and with the strangeness of the Animal Lords deck.

Hmmmm -- the Fey. I keep hearing such good things about it. I like building fairy houses.....And this seems a strange deck, too.....is there a pattern here?

As for Prague -- I know nothing about Prague. Of course, I want to -- it's a magic city, is it not?

And of course I can't afford it :)

I appreciate your efforts...thanks. Deep breath.

Hi Redmaple, why buy them all at once? Why don't you just buy them one at a time and enjoy each one for a while before making the next purchase?

Ok, I confess, I LOVE my Fey!!!
I've only done a new deck spread with my ANimal Lords. I really like my Tarot of Prague but don't know much about Prague.
If you must by all 3 shop around for the bests prices!!!
Amazon has good prices and free s/h over $25 which is EASY to reach!!!
I like strange decks too;)
I have soooo many decks though that most never get used:(

Here's the main question to ask yourself:
If I buy more decks will the others I love and use still get used or collect dust???
It's so easy to buy buy buy but not as easy to use use use especially with work family kids daily life and when you have lots of decks it's hard to really connect with them if you use one 1 day and then not again for several months. At least for me...
I have so many decks I really like but don't have time for...

DO you have TIME to use and love more decks?

Cerulean  09 Jan 2005
because it is from an independent publisher and it's beautiful deck has animals and magical beings...you can see all the cards beforehand and check out meanings as well.

Then as time goes on, Animal Lords and Fey will come in their time...seem more like Spring decks to me. Prague is a rich feast, you'll feel that you are in a luxerious tour of a magical aspect of the city...

Regards,

It's easy RedMaple. Just sit back , ponder the foul state of the world and its' inhabitants, breathe deeply - exhale all desire and striving . Sink as far down into apathy as you possibly can , relax totally . Clear your mind and know that nothing matters. And that you are an integral part of the greater nothing.

Apathy..
means so much to me ...

And then , in a week's time there will be no awful credit card bill, no annoying waiting for the postman to deliver , no growing horror as you realize there are things you deeply dislike about these decks that you didn't notice before .

The Animal Lords is a strange deck. I didn't get anywhere with it till I started reading with it like an oracle deck, just used the pictures & went with that. THEN it turned right around and worked fine. My copy, though, had a horrible acrid smell to it when I took the plastic off, very much like acetate, which took almost 2 weeks to disperse. But it doesn't smell now. I think it might have been from the plasticized coating on the surface of the cards.

They shuffle good, resist bending, and they've connected well with the people who've handled my deck (they also gave it a go as an 'oracle deck' and had an easy read of it).

firemaiden  09 Jan 2005
Nope. I am sorry. I cannot talk you out of it. They are all important wonderful decks. The Animal Lords is one of my favorite reading decks, the Fey is wonderful, wonderful, and a must have. The Prague is also a must have. So there you go. Of course... you could buy them one at a time. Although... I have often bought decks two at a time. Something about the number two. :D

RedMaple  09 Jan 2005
Thank you all! I didn't know there were so many fans of the Animal Lords! That marvelous tortoise is on my mind....

Yes, Cerulean, I am ready for the feast and the luxurious tour through the Magic City.

And oh, the Fey! Perhaps, just perhaps, they can wait until Spring!

Yes, I would like to be more disciplined, and just read with a given deck until I am really tied into it -- and I do have some decks like that (my RWS, Hanson-Roberts, Morgan Greer, for example) but these decks have been calling for awhile now.

As for having time for them --- my Golden and Buddha don't get all the study they deserve all the time, but I love knowing they are there, and the readings and study I have done has been really rewarding. It is nice to have a new deck tucked away awaiting its time...or three or four.LOL

Oh, I want those too! Well, hmm, the best way I know of to talk you out of it would be to persuade you to buy them for moi instead. No? Darn! :D

Er, well, I have all three decks (kind of obvious statement on Prague isn't it!) and I have to say that I find it hard to talk you out of any of the three. I find the Animal Lords the least serious of the three as a reading deck - but on the other hand, it's lovely, it's fun and personally I wouldn't part with it. The Fey I only bought last year because I wanted to see what everyone was raving about - then I really surprised myself by coming to like it a lot - it has some REAL depth.

The Prague? Well, yes, I do occasionally read with this deck LOL...

NightWing  11 Jan 2005
Well, you asked, so...

1. Get the Prague. Don't even think about it. Don't wait. Order the Prague yesterday. No Tarot collection IS one without the Prague. Did I mention that you should get the Tarot of Prague?

2. Wait until spring if you wish, but seriously consider getting the Fey Tarot. At first view, it is cartoonish, colourful, and maybe little else. Further study reveals an amazing depth to this deck. I was very pleasantly surprised.

3. Animal Lords? By all means, if you are wealthy, and have vast storage space for decks you'll toy with, then quietly rebox and file away. The concept was interesting. Its execution was flawed. I find it "cute", but little more. If you like "cute", go for it. Otherwise, save your money for a better deck, and there are a lot better out there.

Cheers.

This is a place of Tarotholics. We tend to enable instead of talking people out of buying a new deck. The Tarot of Prague is one of my favorite decks.--Tao

I have no shame and no regret. I met with RedMaple personally and she fondled my Prague, Fey, and Animal Lords. Over and over (chortle). I left her muttering about going straight to Amazon and clicking the buy link.

(She really liked my Spiral, too.)

*spreading the addiction*

Imagemaker  12 Jan 2005
And she let me stroke her Celtic Wisdom . . . gotta have it . . . the addict gets a new hit . . .

RedMaple  13 Jan 2005
Yes, I have succumbed. No shame, no regrets....and I added the Spiral. :) That uses up my allowance for awhile, and will keep me busy during hibernation season here in the north.

Meanwhile, I've been giving a couple of my decks a makeover, also inspired by Imagemaker's Spiral.

I thought I had a Gilded coming, but I've been hit by the out-of-print monster --- Aaargh! If anyone would like to get rid of their Gilded, just let me know! :)

And thank you all for your valiant (LOL) efforts. I'll be happy to help you out in kind.

They had a Gilded at Borders before Christmas, don't know if it's still there.

I thought I'd check there for the Celtic Wisdom before I pay shipping. They have lots of decks.
