Anyone have this deck? What do you think about it? Would you recommend it for a beginner?

your bio says that you are 14 and that the Morgan Greer is interesting to you. I would recommend that one as a great beginner deck with books about it.
The movie style of the Cosmic Tarot by Norman Losche may be kind of old.
Are there other kind of themes that you like?

I've seen all of the cards in the Cosmic Tarot Deck. I feel this THING with it. I don't know how to explain it. I've been trying to go to Barnes and Noble but I haven't been able to. Every time I see the images from this deck, I get happy. I sort of feel...a connection. I felt like that for Robin Wood before, but I don't know what happened. One day, I saw all the images for Robin Wood, and the connection was lost. I don't know how to explain it..... I love all the faces in the Cosmic Tarot Deck.

Oh yeah...and I don't really like Hanson-Roberts. The images look a little bit... weird to me.

NYCTeen - If you feel connected with the deck, then I think you have answered your own question. I have the deck and I must admit it is not one of the top ones on my list, but if you connect with the imagery of mid-20th Century film stars, you will be OK with it. I feel it can be a good reading deck for someone just starting out. You may not find this one at your local Barnes, however. I very rarely see this deck even in specialty stores. There are a couple of metaphysical shops in NYC - you may want to look them up on the web and give them a call to see if they have it and/or can get it.

I have seen this deck at Borders bookstores. I assume you have those in NYC. This deck is on my wishlist actually.

Hi,
I have had this deck for about 4-5 months now. The imagery / artwork is amazing, in my opinion. I have a good connection with it.
However, please be aware that some of the cards deviate from the traditional RWS meanings. I "understand" that it leans more towards the "thoth" system.
For this reason, my Cosmic deck stays in it's bag in the drawer. I am a beginer myself (8 months) and I am sticking with the original RWS for the immediate future. At some point I "will" start using the Cosmic deck, because I feel that strongly about it. For pure imagery alone, it's my favourite deck.
I think you need to decide "how" you are going to learn, and "if" learning the "traditional / standard" meanings is important to you. If it isn't, I would say go for it. If it is, then stay as close as possible to the original RWS.
I don't want to start any heated debates about how to learn, but I think that decision is crucial to whether this deck is good for a beginner.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Ian

I owned this deck. I think the images are very clear and speak for themselves which would be helpfull for a beginner. I gave mine away to a friend because the readings I did for her with this deck were always dead on. It just suited her better then me and it is her learning deck now.
If you feel you will learn better with a more traditional deck then why not combine that with this deck? You can use online resourses to get info on traditinal card meaning everywhere but to personalise the meanings of the cards you're best of with a deck that you connect with.

Is the Morgan-Greer more similar to the Rider-Waite?

Yes,
The Morgan Greer bears the same pictures as the Rider-Waite, except they are larger and have no borders. It is probably one of the (if not THE) closest interpretation of the RWS clones.

I've had this deck for about a month and as someone who knew little about tarot before getting this deck I really love it. The only thing that does confuse me a little about the cards is thier design on the back as you can tell when they are reversed. Are you meant to use em for reversed readings?
But I think it is a great deck. When I first bought them I just thought - wow, these are gorgeous. The art work is quite graffic with strong, bold colours, which I really connect with.
