The Great Greenwood Tarot Price Collapse

A Greenwood Tarot book and deck set just sold on eBay for a high bid of $233.50. A few weeks ago Scion's went for $293.00. In the eBay auction before that a set sold for $401.00.
The moment of the Great Greenwood Tarot Price Collapse draws near. Soon (well, maybe not real soon) even you and I will be able to afford one. When that happens, will we still care?

Skydancer  22 Feb 2005
I thought I saw one go for $695. with $7. shipping.

No?
Even so, I saw that this latest one went for the measly $233 . plus only $3.50 shipping! I was thinking the same as you; one day I can possibly buy one!!
Although frankly, I don't much care for it. Oh well ~

Thankfully, I got mine about a year and a half ago at a "measly" $120. I think someone got one much cheaper in the last six months because the seller spelled Greenwood - Geenwood.

Since I was one of the bidders I had hoped the same but in the last few minutes the Lurkers at The Threshold of Time Ending Soonest spotted it and drove it way out of range.

I'm told that one of our members recently got one for a $20 Buy it Now and resold it at 15 times the price, but who can believe such stories ;)?

hi fyreflye!
i also placed a bid for the deck but as i am in the UK i couldn't stay awake until 3am to await the result! and sadly, even though i ummed and ahhhed about whether to place a bid at all, i figured that maybe paying over the odds is the only way to get one of these decks nowadays so i went for it.i think the winner bid about 5 dollars more than my maximum and snuck in about 30 minutes before the end.
so the greenwood continues to elude me- i wonder how many of these decks are actually out there........why don't US games just reprint it! i know this has been under discussion before but honestly, i know tarot is subjective but some of the decks out there at the moment aren't half as good as chesca potter's artwork and just don't have the same magical quality.however, i still think if it's meant to be, one will come along.....(tarot gods permitting! LOL!!)
so the search is still on!
and anyone who has a "spare" greenwood in the meantime, feel free to pm me!

Ah, I was watching that same auction. I'm beginning to figure out what it is that we all do when not posting on AT...we're all over on eBay, bargain-hunting. :D :D The Greenwood will have to drop wayyyy below $255 before I can afford it, though.

I have a question, not having actually handled a Greenwood deck.

Is it worth it? I mean, REALLY worth it? Is it THAT much better than so many of the decks out there available for far less? I'm curious, because it seems to be, but no one really ever says why

tinkerbell  01 Mar 2005
very recently, a dear friend of mine LOANED me her greenwood tarot deck- i cannot tell you how wonderful it felt to hold those precious cards in my hands-the same cards that i had DREAMED of holding and studying for such a long time.
stregaverde- i understand you wonder what all the fuss is about and i can only reply by saying that in my case, i am such a huge fan of chesca potter's illustrations that just looking at the images in the cards makes me feel inspired (especially her majors). i love the lushness of the nature and the innocence of the animals depicted in the court cards.
my favourite card is the moon- simply stunning.
of course i realise that everyone is different and others may prefer other decks over this one-however, it's clear that i am not the only one desperate to get my hands on my very own deck!!!!
incidentally for those of us who are consistently unlucky in our pursuit of the greenwood, i have been e-mailing US Games and begging them to reprint!
don't they realise how much of a popular decision this would be!!
reprint and give the greenwood back to the masses i say! (and to my special friend who loaned me the deck- i am cherishing every moment ! bless you!! she is also an aeclectic member!!)

A Greenwood that showed up on eBay four hours ago with a starting bid of GBP 60.00 and a "Buy it Now" of GBP 120.00 ($230.54 USD) is already gone.

Rusty Neon  01 Mar 2005
I guess there's a pent-up demand that needs to be met at higher prices before the going price can descend.

HudsonGray  01 Mar 2005
Half of it is the artwork, Stregaverde, you can see all the cards over here: http://www.herebedragons.co.uk/chesca/cp/green.htm Click on the left, the cards come up in the center section.

tarobones  01 Mar 2005
WHy doesn't the deck get republished and end the horrendous price gouging??? Seems that something should be done. Those prices are outrageous................Michael

I had e-mailed USG a year and half ago, I think, about reprinting it and the response was that they were only interested in new projects. When I asked the same question in another thread another member told me it was Harper Collins who published it. I guess USG just did the cards and distributed it. I'm going to look for that other thread.

TygrEyes  02 Mar 2005
Here's a thread where Jeanette from Tarot Garden explains why they most likely won't republish it. It's the 2nd page of the thread & here response is at or near the end.

last time i e-mailed USGames, i got a response from bobbi at customer services. i made sure that i included the ISBN from the US games printing- (apparently, harper collins did the first printing, then sold the rights to USGames, i'm sure i read that somewhere). anyway bobbi went off and checked the details and said that yes, the ISBN was one of theirs but she could find no record of it!!!
perhaps this explains why USGames won't reprint!!!
perhaps we should all start e-mailing them on a regular basis..........then they've GOT to listen!!!

I received my Greenwood as a Yule present a couple of years ago, and since my partner was bidding on ebay for it, I know we won it for a very lucky $75.00. Perhaps this was because the box was trashed and the scans of the cards were blurry, but the cards were perfect. Several of us banded together and bought one for a friend about a year ago and paid $125.00 (ebay again). Thank goodness my friend wanted a Cosmic Tribe this year....LOL

I absolutely think my Greenwood was worth the wait and the hassle and the money. The pictures are powerful and the deck gives equally powerful readings, IMO, especially for emotional/spiritual issues. I dislike the book that was published with the deck, though--I use the online explanations by Chesca Potter instead, and I hope to one day buy the book she published on the deck. Does anyone have that book? Do you find it helpful?

I also love the Moon card, and Death. And the Guardian (traditional Devil) helped get me past my lingering discomfort with card XV. Since then I've made friends with my "Devil" in several decks, and otherwise. ;)
