I had said to myself that I wasn't going to buy any more decks for the foreseeable future. I have about 10 decks already. I don't want to buy decks just to collect, I want to buy decks because "I" want to get something out of them.
For quite a few months I have been reading about the Haindl on line. I have looked at scans of all the cards. Something about the deck just intrigued me. I kept on thinking about it on and off.
Today I visited my local new age shop, in town. I asked if I could hold the Haindl Tarot box. I wanted to see how big the cards were- by how long the box was. Well, that was it. As soon as that box was in my hand, I knew it was going home with me. Part of me wanted to resist and say "I don't NEED another deck right now"- but I couldn't help myself. I'm sure many of you have been there?!!!
Well, when I got it home and opened it- I was so glad I had bought it.
It just feels so "right", to me.

There is so much depth to it. The PERFECT balance between abstractness and definition. It gets your mind working and then leaves it to wander!
The cards don't jump out at you- they recede away from you, drawing you in as they go.
I have a nice, "comfortable" feel with this deck- as if there is no rush to get to know it- I have the rest of my life!
Just wanted to share my enthusiasm with you. I am so excited and thrilled with this deck.
Regards,
Ian
PS: This time I really do mean "No more decks" ;)

The Star in this deck is one of the most beautiful star cards I have ever seen...
congratulations with your new deck :)

I recently bought the Haindl deck as well and I got a similar feeling -- that it was going to take me a long time to really "know" this deck, but that there's no rush and I've got all the time in the world. It's a very deep deck, one that invites you into its depths. I don't immediately feel like reading with it. I want to get to know it better...maybe do some simple 3 card spreads but that's it. I'm also going to get the companion books, too.

Congratulations to those of you that recently got the Haindl Tarot! It is one that I consider "must have", though it is not necessarily an "easy" deck. A good idea are Rachel Pollack's writings on the Haindl, published as two books (Major Arcana & Minor Arcana) awhile ago, and now in one volume, I understand.
You may want to do a search here in the forum, as well.
May it give you much joy and insight! Peace be upon you and your readings.

I'm finding that I love the Haindl, too. I was very fortunate in that I recently traded with Lyric and got two copies of the Haindl (one of which she had trimmed) plus 3 books by Rachel Pollack (the general handbook for the deck, plus the 2-volume, more in depth set of books on the Haindl).
Anyway, despite the number of decks I own, and how much I dearly love most of them, I'm finding myself taking the Haindl out every night and studying it. I especially enjoy the majors in this deck...the Star and the Moon and the Sun are absolutely stunning.
This is quickly becoming one of my most favorite decks.

I'm thrilled to hear that you like the Haindl decks and books so much, Anabelle. I'm so glad they've gone to someone who can enjoy them and get the most out of them. The Haindl is a beautiful and profound deck. I didn't trade it because I didn't appreciate those things about it. I traded it because I DO appreciate that and wanted to let the set go to someone who could get the most out of it. Therefore, I'm just delighted to hear your feelings about the decks and the materials that go with them. It's good to know they've found the right home.
For anyone considering the Haindl, I think it needs someone fairly experienced with tarot to get the most out of the study of it. Or maybe just someone with no experience but with the three books to go with the deck so that it's the only one you study with from the start. For myself, I'm probably at the medium level of expertise with tarot and found that I wasn't able to do the deck justice.
I think the fact that the creator of the deck went through the concentration camps of WWII gives it the profound nature it has and that, for the right person, it could be THE deck. I had intended to just keep the materials till the "right" time came for me to devote myself to it, but the cosmos prodded me to let it go on and so I did. :)

Well good luck to you, with the no more decks part! LOL I have said that a number of times too. And I have broken it enough. :-) I have never been sorry, but no more decks for me either. I don't want more than I can fit on my Tarot table as I use them all regularly. Don't have room for a second table in my room.:-)
As for the Haindl, it was my first deck. I still love it. And I know exactly what you feel, and I'm with you on that. I have heard people say it is a dark deck. I never saw that. I find it so optimistic. The only thing that drives me crazy is that the names on the Minors often are different from the names for the same cards in Rachel Pollack's books in the deck.
Me too, that is what I like most in a deck, a lot of depth in the imagery, and beauty. The Haindl has both. :-)

After having the deck for about 2 weeks, I finally did my first reading with it yesterday and I must say it was so soothing and meditative. It cut right to the heart of the matter in a very spiritually honest way. I didn't think I was up for the challenge of the Haindl, but I realized while reading with it that it really wasn't a challenge at all but an invitation to delve into deep waters. There's no rush. It waits.
