Picked up a cheapo Maddonni deck off the old ebay.
A bit tatty, no LWB.
But the pictures (not the minors, that's just lazy!) are so lovely!
I got it to be a 70's style art deck.
I grew up in the 70's so I am very nostalgic for the look of that era. I liked the aquarian, and for some reason the Maddonni reminded me of it. That 70's look, I suppose.
(I know, it was published in 81, but it looks 70's)
The star is just so cutie pie I could die.
I know it's not rare or collectible, but it was dirt cheap and I like it.
Has anyone else got it?
If so, what do youthink?
And does anyone have the LWB? If you have, am I missing much?

Yay!
Someone else who owns a Maddonni deck!
I have been waiting for a long time!
I adore this deck...and I never really thought about it, but that style of art is rather reminiscent of the 70's.
I always just thought Modern Italian.
I love the sort of goofiness of the majors.
Especially in cards like the Star (one of my fav Stars of all time!) and the Hermit.
I also really like the Fool, and Force (Strength)
There is something really fun and approachable about these images, and yes...like you, I would really have loved a pictoral Minor Arcana...but this is a mostly Marseilles based deck.
I just had a look at the LWB in the box (don't think I ever noticed it in there before!)....it's pretty thick for a LWB...but that's because I think it comes in multiple languages.
On the cards themselves...the suits are money and clubs...but in the LWB they are listed as coins and sticks.
heh. I like that...the Jack of Sticks!
There are also some interesting meanings in here...keywords after each major, and the meanings are broken into two catagories...Physically and Morally.
If you want this LWB, Lillie...just PM me with your addresss and I will send it to you!

Hi Chronata
Yeah, I'm glad someone else likes it too.
The majors are so great. Like you say, the star and force are lovely, Force is particularly beautiful with her great mane of hair. And the hermit! Well, he's been searching in the dark allright. He's been looking for the fridge! Now we know who ate all the pies!
I like the death card too. He's just reaping away there (as a good death should) making a great big pile of all the bits.
The fool is cute too. It's not often you see a female fool. And I do like the funny little bird that appears on both her card and that of the magician.
I never thought of the art as being Italian. Though I doubt I'd know Italian art (old or modern) if it came up and bit me.
What it reminded me most of was a TV program from when I was a kid. It was called 'Crystaltips and Alister' and was a cartoon about a girl and her dog. I hated it then, but now I'm getting nostalgic about anything that reminds me of being young! (Oh lord, showing my age!)
Thank you for your offer of the LWB. If you are sure you don't need it I would be very interested to read it. I find that the LWB's of some older decks can give quite unusual interpretations of the cards, or obscure and different spreads.
I will PM you my address. You are most kind.
