My Maragerete Petersen Tarot Just Arrived!!!

My (English) Margarete Petersen Tarot has arrived! :)

Does anyone else have this deck and use it in their readings?

contrascarpe  10 Mar 2005
Yay!!

Another Petersen owner!!! This is my favorite "deep" deck (Laura, too). We both have the English and the old German (with the wine colored borders). I save this deck for special readings with few cards because it is so deep. There is a wonderful study group (recently dispersed, but stil there) started by firemaiden, who did a great job with the initial translation of the German book. I chime in from time to time, and want to continue. Perhaps you could join in and inspire me to do more?

I confess that when I saw the images, I fell in love with them all and my intuition started humming so very loudly. Holding them now in my hands, I just know incredible readings will come from this treasure. My cards have subtler hues and the borders, as you know, are very light grey.

I saw the study somewhere here (not sure exactly where now) when I looked around to see if the MP had been metioned at AT, but I thought no one had added to it for a while. Where do you chime in (what a beautiful metaphor, Dan) from time to time?

I would love to join in, especially if both you and Laura will also inspire me. :)

Not sure how far I got, but I believe it was only 3-4 cards in.

I just love this deck. Being the completist I am, I knew I had to have both versions. When I found out the original German was out of print, I was bummed. Laura snagged one for me last year while we were still dating, so obviously it is a treasured deck for more than one reason :)

I usually read with the English version, but also pull out the equivalent card(s) from the German. It is funny but I get a different perspective looking at both. Some cards are deeper with the lighter borders, while others are deeper with the darker. The nice thing about it is that I see something different in every card each time I look at them. I have done more detailed readings for people with this deck using just one card, than I have using several cards with other decks.

I am so glad you enjoy this deck, Namaste. Knowing your taste in decks I am not surprised you found an immediate bond.

I think I might revisit each card of the index and add my two cents. :)

YES!!! I think it will become a very, very important deck for me. You ]are lucky!!! I wanted to get the German version also, and would still like to get my hands on one, but it might be very, very difficult. I was only able to get this one through the Tarot Garden, being up here and everything.

I'm sure you do. I saw the borderless paintings at

http://www.lapalmagaleria.info/arte/matrix.php3?basis=tarot&lang=

and fell in love with their vividness. I can see how the darker borders would produce deeper or different insights. Perhaps I will be lucky one day and come across the out-of-print German deck... :) I will have to sit with these cards and let them reveal themselves to me. The Lovers (my personal number card) calls to me already, as does the High Priestess. They are all amazing!

Absolutely! I have no trouble whatsoever concurring with you on that point. I haven't tried them yet, but I know, instinctively, that what you say is true. I can go so far as to say that I have never experienced such depth with any Tarot. The closest I have ever come to this is with my beloved Voyager, but I think MP's tarot will operate on an even deeper level of my being.

Thank you for your kind words, Dan. I think we must share similar tastes when it comes to the decks we love. :)

Time, in my case, is always of the essence, but I don't think I will be able to resist the study of the MP. I hope you will join me. Heaven knows that I'm beginning to feel like a thread "killer" everywhere else... LOLOLOL...

namaste, I got this deck (German version) quite a while ago because the artwork just blew me away-so luminous and deep. And I've hardly used it-just one of those things. Your post has reminded me of how lovely these cards are. I'm certainly not going to let them fester in the darker recesses of my Tarot collection anymore.

I hope you enjoy . I sense it's a very wise deck as well as a beautiful one.:)

P.S. I didn't even know there was an English version !

WolfSpirit  10 Mar 2005
I also have the German version with the wine coloured borders. I did not know it was out of print now ! I bought it at the German amazon site, last year around Christmas. I find most of the cards stunning, but I found the court cards very difficult to read.
I did not know the English deck had different borders, and I wonder what that looks like. I am so used to these dark borders, I think they fit nicely (and no, I have not considered trimming this one ;) )

You even THINK of putting this deck on the same table as your scissors and I will have to perform a rescue operation!!!!!!

...you could free the luminious flame of the Nine of Flames from it's borders--a world without words and borders, think of it...although then, what good is the book that goes by the title and words? It would be a pictorial world, a world without words, only the softest of sighs, as you clip and there she/he lies...

The sweet face behind the soft rosy veil, seems so much clearer now as you enter in...

And if you have two, do both need those borders? Did you not want something a little smaller, less bound by the square, a dream without words...

Then again, if you come near mine with cutting tools, I'll invoke Nada En Particular and try to run very very fast.

So the love affair(s) with the MP deck continues. Glad to see it.

I've never really read with this deck; the art overwhelms to such an extent that for me so far it has been a "meditational" deck.

To describe the art I end up using terms that are seldom in my vocabulary; like "sumptuous", "glorious", and "sublime".

The only PLACE of which I've used such terms is Venice. I wonder what that is about?

The Creator of the deck deserves more than generous praise and thanks!

Thank you, Rosyelf! It is a very beautiful deck. I, too, was blown away by the artwork. I think it will become a beloved companion. I know the deck has been studied already, but I was thinking of revisiting some of the cards at least. I'd like to explore each of the worlds the deck contains. :)

On the off chance that I might still be able to get it from a German seller, I visited amazon.de and have sent emails asking if the they still have the dark border deck. Wish me luck! I really wanted the wine coloured cards when I ordered the English deck, but perhaps, this way, I might be able to have both. I think it would be interesting to view the cards side by side. :)

How beautiful are your words, Cerulean. How could you not love this deck... It is you. :)

I agree... Please, don't any of you disfigure these eloquent gems...

It is Venetian in tone... Perhaps it is where Petersen's soul lingered in a past existence or where it travels in her dreams. If I remember correctly, I think she writes in the LWB that all the images came to her while she lay cradled in the arms of Morpheus. Yes!! Sumptuous, glorious, sublime, poignant... :)

It was here

the love affair began...

If I understand amazon.de correctly, they have an old and a new German deck: the old one with the dark borders, and a new one with white borders like the English version.
If they listed it correctly, there should still be sellers selling the deck with dark borders. However, for people who are not so enthusiastic as us, a dark or white border may make no difference.
But there is sure someone who has one to sell :)

I've been checking my email, but no reply yet.

I do hope so, WolfSpirit!!! :)

A little advice, please. :D

I do so want to talk about these cards, but I don't want to impose upon the extraordinary contributions of those who studied and wrote about them before.

Where would you suggest I could post my first few steps of exploration into Petersen's world?
