I just got this deck book set at a local used book store. it is like new. I got it cause it is by Clive Barrett and i love his egyptain deck but this one is totally not me at all! like should i give the deck more time or should i just trade it off? like i m trying to work with a deck a bit more before i get rid of it and although i m not into norse mythology but i want to learn something new. so like any info about working with this deck or your ideas about it would be cool.

also like i have heard the deck is oop print? is that true?

joy joy

oh i did a search on here and i did not see much aobut it so that is why i asking. he hee

It is currently OOP. According the his website there are plans to re-print it 'later this year'. Since last year his site said it would be re-printed last August, you have to wonder. You could probably get a decent price on eBay, but I honestly have no idea how much. Clearly if you were going to sell, before it is reprinted would be the best time.

It's my favorite of the nordic tarot decks out there, and one of my first tarot decks. The colors and imagery are very nice. The minors are based on RWS, a plus or minus depending on point of view. The majors are generally very good, especially the Empress (Freyja), the Emperor (Tyr) and the Hanged Man (Odin). I don't care for the chariot imagery on the Hierophant card though the book explains why, and the majors 13-21 give an overview of some Norse myth but are very different from traditional tarot images. The nontraditional aspect of the majors precludes this deck from being in my regular use. I think it's mainly an art deck, and also a little for understanding Norse myth. The runes assignments are okay, but my opinion differs on most of them.

I got the Egyptian for $17 new although I've seen it $50/+
from Barrett's website offer ($29 on average). The Norse is
very appealing to me, and I do expect it to be reprinted by
Element Books, though that's as maybe. The Norse is good.

This is the only deck I use and I luv it! His book is ok, though some of the runes are questionable and he really needs to include all ascepts of the rune not just a few select bits. The imagery is very nicely done and gives me so much more then his book does meaning wise. I would suggest if you are going to use it read the mythology it deepens the meanings and understandings. I would also suggest readng about the people the culture and their values. it really helps. I'm Heathen so this deck is right up my alley. The Herophant( or in the decks case the High Preist Card) are right out of the myths for the most part. Often times it's said the Vanir (one of the races of Gods), in this Case Freyr, were carried around in wagons or rode about in charoits. For more solid mythology and rune lore I would go back to the myths and culture his is ok but I've read better retellings.

Do you have the website were I can read about the reissue?

Clive Barrett's webpage for Norse Tarot:

http://www.mythographica.fsnet.co.uk/NORSE%20TAROT/

In left-hand menu column, various selections include a link to "Buy the Norse Tarot" which leads to e-mail contact for inquiries. As Marion indicated, the announcement there indicates deck "...will be available later in the year"; however, that is not recent information.

I always thought the Norse was pretty...but I didn't have a lot of successful readings with it..

Actually it wasn't my deck at all...but my husband's main reading deck (he's the big Viking guy!)

Even he decided one day, to trade it away.
I'm not sure if he decided that it taught him all that it could...or that he was just ready to try something new...he traded it for the Deck of Northern Shadows (which he likes to call "Northern Lights")...a Viking/Celtic deck that I actually like better.

As for my experience with it...it was almost too pretty...and it was hard to get past that, I guess, for any real meanings to pop up.(although I admit, I wasn't really trying that hard!)

I had similar trouble with his Ancient Egyptian and with decks like the Goddess tarot.

i hate the artwork on the deck and i m trying to look beyond that and work with it, or just sale it off, i dont know of yet

thanks all of u for your info!

you might like the Viking Tarot if you want to continue with Norse imagery, but again with with deck the myths will help with imagery (sp)
