I have this, and I think it was worth it. It is especially good if you don't already have a Thoth and Rider Waite deck. I had both, but I still find it useful because the decks are smaller -- more the size of regular playing cards -- and I have very small hands. The book is pretty good, too.

I don’t have this but I would say go for it! The Rider Waite is a great standard and the Thoth to me is just another way of “looking”. Journals are a great way of learning and may prompt you with questions you wouldn’t think of yourself. I have a book entitled: The Tarot Workbook by Nevill Drury and I find it helpful. A cheat sheet is always good :)
I say good find. All very helpful ways to learn. The magnetic closure thing sounds really nice too. Sounds like it would feel and smell nice. ( I have a thing about new book smell- love that!!) What the hell. If it’s in your means I say go for it.

I have this kit too - I originally bought it for the two decks - both very good quality pocket sized. The book compares the two decks so if you are studying either the RWS or the Thoth the book should come in handy. The chart is good as well, it folds so that you can stand it up either for the RWS or the Thoth.
Journals are always good to have, even if only to give you an idea how to start your own.
The book is called 'Introduction to Tarot' and it does just that, good clear information - it doesn't go into detailed descriptions of the cards but enough to get you started thinking about the cards. For the Thoth you really need a book dedicated to the deck anyway.
All in all I think its a nice deck set. :)

This set is an excellent introduction to Tarot. It is the sort of thing I would get as a gift for a good friend who wanted to seriously get going in Tarot. The two pocket decks are good, and the book is a really good starter. And there is more, and all packed in a useful shelfcase. The best price is probably at Amazon. Of course, I bought it for myself!

but luckily, I only paid 11.99 for the set, new. I would not have gotten it otherwise, but this was a steal!
Along with the 2 decks, the set has a book, _Introduction to Tarot_, illustrated in full color, a nice feature. Not much new here, though a good general discussion of the cards' meanings and symbols. Though at times, Thoth gets short shrift.
In addition, there is a Tarot Journal, for you to record your readings. A spread sheet of the "Woven Spread" (aka a Celtic Cross variation) and a cheat sheet of basic divinatory meanings for both deck which can be assembled into a stand up, 3D, 3 sided figure.
The RWS deck has the familiar blue plaid back and says (c) 1971 US Games, so is the same standard printing as the full size deck. The Thoth has the Rosy Cross back and is a colorful printing, (c) 1996 AG Muller (no horrible green tint here.
Not a bad set at all, especially when on sale.

The set I was looking at in "Borders" was printed
in China, and while it was open enough to check,
I couldn't see if the still wrapped cards were the
new "typeset" stlyle or the hand-lettered script?
Any help there? And what about lamination, etc?

I don't have it but I do have both of the decks which I both hate wit a passion. I would be willing to trade them for an oracle but nothing has been decided thus far.

It says that the Thoth is a "Special Edition". Whats special about it? I mean, the edition, not the cards...

Hi Fulgour,
The RWS is hand-lettered script and they seem very lightly laminated. It shuffles well. The card stock is as good as my standard size RWS. :)
Hi Closrapexa,
Not sure why the Thoth is a special edition either. It has the Unicursal Hexagram card and is a little more laminated than the RWS. The colours are crisp and very pretty, the card stock is as good as my standard Thoth.
I got this set for a very good price too and was very pleased with the quality of these decks. :)

is starting to whisper...
hey, just get one to see... ;)
