Is the Cosmic Tarot Deck based on the "traditional, original" deck, Rider-Waite? I mean, does it have the original symbols? I hope you know what I mean... :/

Hi,
It has a lot of similarities, but also shares some with the Thoth.
I would say roughly 95% RWS, 5% Thoth.
6 of swords seems similar to "Science"
7 of pentacles seems more negative than positive
Just a couple of examples
Really good deck though
In my opinion, some of the nicest, clearest art work around
Regards,
Ian

Hi NYCTeen
You can see the whole deck here:
Cosmic Tarot
I was gifted this deck, and I'm glad because the fact that some cards contain celebrities put me off it for a long time. I think it has a Thoth feel too and I remember some of the cards had their own meaning (or yours) and couldn't be compared to RWS or Thoth. But it's been a while since I've used it for me to be more specific.
I would suggest you don't try to figure out who the celebs are though. Just use it and enjoy it without pre-conceived ideas. It's a lovely deck, one of the best Hermits I have seen.

Thanks! Would you suggest this deck for a beginner who has had NO experience with Tarot?

Sorry to not give you a straight Yes or No, but.......
If you wish (as a beginner) to learn strictly the standard RWS (Rider Waite Smith) meaning, I would say at least have the bog standard RWS deck in addition to this.
If you aren't too worried about the 100% standard meanings, I would say it would be an ideal deck. Have you had a ggo look at the images? Lovely pastel colours, excellent detail on the faces. A lot of the faces are meant to be famous movie stars- This doesn't bother me and I don't really recongnise them- but I know it bothers some.
Regards,
Ian

Hrm... I don't see the similarities to the Thoth deck at all... ah, well.
Thanks! Would you suggest this deck for a beginner who has had NO experience with Tarot?
I think it's as fair a deck to start with as any, if you're not starting with the RWS.
The important thing in selecting a deck, of course, is to select one that speaks to you.
